Stayed in a Haven provided caravan. Excellent 3 bed van with TV, Microwave, radiator central heating, lounge gas fire. Super spacious shower. Usual facilities on site and typical of most similar sites. Check prices before deciding to buy in the shops/bars etc. If on a budget
Beautiful beach - but you need to be fit to get back up the steep path.
The caravan lost electricity one morning - the maintenance guy arrived in less than 10 minutes - you cant ask for more.
I have rated the site as 10/10 value for money - because in our case we visited as a result of a newspaper special deal and it would be impossible to find cheaper !
I have rated child friendliness as 8/10 but it is not very accurate as I was not with any children, and therefore not tested.
The small town of Perranporth is very pleasant with some good eating places offering good value.
We tried the Jaipur Indian and the Fish restaurant and were very happy with both.
This is the third Haven site I have stayed at and I would say it rates at no.3 for facilities and ambience, the other two being much nicer as sites. (Portmadoc, Newquay mid Wales) The caravan was equally as good as the others
Downsides - I am a computer addict and to check my emails would cost £5 for one hours wi fi access from my own laptop. - I didn't bother - when in Newquay I checked everything for £1 (only 10 minutes but that's all I needed)
Would we go again - yes

We arrived in very high winds and bad rain. Sat for 5 mins to decide if we would wait it out a bit or just get the tent up in the rain. The maintenance guys/camping wardens pitched in after one of the poles broke. We had the tent pitched in no time and then started to get things into the tent only to find the pitch was very un even.
Pitch location- very good, right next to the toilet block, not too much toilet/washing up traffic dispite the busyness of the site. Also with park adjacent to the pitch made the small children have some independence once they knew not to fall off the high bridges.
Camping facilities - Well used. Often cleaned, although not always spotless, but its a 140+ pitch site, 3 blocks with 6 toilets/showers per gender, there always busy. No problems with electrics or pot wash facilities.
Park Facilities - Not used, one trip to the pool, numerous trips to the (overpriced) laundry, and slightly over priced convenience store.
Local amenaties - Be prepared to travel. We did 380 miles in 9 days. Its possible to find a beach with exactly what you are looking for, but be prepared to try a few. Expencive parking at most of them (£3.50 - £6). The Bowgie Inn at West pentire had free parking for patrons and did a nice scampi n chips too. Morrisons, lidl, co-op are all resonably priced, and the take aways in Perranporth are very good too.
Would I go back. Mmm its a 7 hour journey and with a windy disposition, cornwall itself proves too far away.

Well we braved the bank holiday! Our first trip away in our new tent and with the dog! We paid 100 for 3 nights on electric
Travelling down was a nightmare due to someone who choose bank holiday Friday to jump onto the motorway and it took an extra 4 and half hours.
We arrived at 11.30pm, in the dark and put the tent up with help of the car headlights in some pretty strong winds. The electric pitches are all marked out and easy to find.
We loved the site, they didn't give us the funpasses in our welcome pack but then again we couldn't use them due to having the dog with us however there is seating outside the main eating plaza which we wasn't told we wasn't allowed the dog and there was no signs also other dog owners was sat enjoying a meal with there mutts.
Shop was well stocked, do have some warm foods likes pastys and breakfast items also hot drinks.
We made a mistake getting to the beach and went over the sand dunes! and found the route up interesting. WHAT A WALK! Great views. Dog loved it, we found muscles we never thought could hurt the next day.

We went to Perran Sands in the hope that going to a Haven Site in this year of unpredictable weather would keep us entertained in bad weather. We were badly mistaken.
The actual entertainment facilities were clean but we went before the school holidays started and the site couldn't really cope with the amount of people staying there.
We also travelled with a my disabled sister and we were absolutely disgusted at the lack of and state of the disabled facilities.
We could never get into the disabled toilet because it was shared with the 'parent and toddler' room.We understand that parents with young children need more space, and were willing to wait until the room was available (quite often a 25 minute wait to go to the toilet) but what was more annoying were the parents completely mis-using the toilet with their older children who were of an acceptable age to use the other, normal toilets. They completely disregarded someone who had to wait 25 minutes just to get to the toilet! And they were in an absolutely disgusting state. Adequate, separate facilities should be provided. Mid way through our stay, the disabled toilets broke and we were forced to use a facility on the other side of the camping field. As you can imagine, the wait for the toilet got even worse with more families using the disabled facilities. The normal toilets were rarely cleaned, the showers had no shelfs, hooks or anywhere to put towells and bags.
The campers were definitely treated of the lowest importance, and even after complaining about our issues, there was little interest and nothing was done.
With regards to the swimming pool, the hours were okay but could not cope with demand. The pool was very full, there was only one toilet in the whole changing room - which was broken. As for the disabled facilities, again the only changing room also doubled up as a family room so a wait was inevitable (a small wait we don't mind). There was no lift or ramp into the pool, all access was by steps so lifting my sister into the pool was very difficult and a safety hazard with the slippery floor.
The food was expensive on site, the family entertainment pretty poor.
Having said all this, the location within Perranporth was very good and the beach was beautiful (although a very very steep climb, very hard for the infirm or wheelchair users). I would recommend Perranporth as a nice Cornish town. The fish and chips in town (not on site) were the best we've ever eaten.

Had a good time on site with good beaches but quite a walk, usual haven site all about money making. Food and drinks very very expensive For example 4 coffees 12 quid and pie and chips £4.50! Pitch was £120 for 4 days not to bad, too many arcade machines if you have children toilets a bit smelly and could do with more cleaning however showers were warm and reasonable for campsite. Would not revist this site but would try another in surrounding areas as there was plenty to do Peranporth well worth a visit

Arrived back from Haven/Perranporth yesterday, this is the first time I've written a review, I'll be as objective as possible to assist others.
Firstly, when we booked I explained we'd be travelling the night before (to avoid the traffic) and asked if there was an overnight parking area. The lady on the phone said that there's a huge field opposite the check-in reception and although you shouldn't really stay there, there wouldn't be an issue if I did. She said that there would be plenty of room. As I'm a member of the caravan club, I decided to book a local CL site instead of taking the risk. Good choice and sound advise to others - we arrived on site at 12.00 on the morning of our reservation, there must have been between 50 and 60 caravans parked from the night before, all just squashing in wherever they could. There was a queue at reception which took nearly an hour to get through.
The pitch was an excellent size, all grass, and clean. There was plenty of room for our twin wheeled caravan, the awning, and the car, with loads of room to spare.
The toilet facilities where the worst I've seen on a site - needless to say we used our own facilities but if you need to use the on-site ones at least now you know what to expect.
The site itself was well laid out and suited us. We have three young children that thoroughly enjoyed all the facilities and there was lots of space for them to explore the duns. The beach is absolutely fabulous and you're able to walk from the site, however be aware that there's a long uphill walk back.
The bar, restaurant and evening entertainment room are typical large site facilities - sticky floors and tables! And yes, you needed to be seated early.
All in all the site is a large holiday site that caters for a large variety of people. We will not return to the site, which is a shame because Perranporth and it's beaches are lovely and well worth a visit.

Just spent two weeks at Perran Sands where we had been before but not in our tourer. Pitches tricky to get in and out especially as it was busy also set out in a funny way facing on to one another but had our own waste and water which was handy. Toilets and showers clean and plentiful with three blocks on site and nice hot showers. Deep cleaned once a week and even some of the shower curtains which seemed fine were replaced. Nice playground for kids and huge sand dunes which are fun to play in and also good for a shortcut to the facilities which were about five minutes walk away. Club house ready for a refurb and not enough toilets at busy times unless you go out to the ones in the amusements (which were actually cleaner). Pool been refurbished and was really nice and very clean. Paid for kids to go on water walkerz(hamster ball on the pool!) which was fun for £7 each. Meals in cafe bar really bad unlike other haven sites we visited £30 for four and we did'nt eat much poor quality thank goodness for the on site burger king which was great. Nearby Perranporth is a fab little town and we love the beach visited dairyland which was good value but not too keen on Newquay zoo. All in all love Perranporth but not too sure about paying the bigger prices at Perran Sands again as there are nicer sites all be it with less facilities.

Perran Sand was my family second holiday at a Haven site. The area was great. The touring site had 3 shower blocks as well as a kids play area. The main site was a 10 minute walk away with a shop, places to eat and other attractions. A short drive away was the town of Perranporth which has a great atmosphere and loads of local shops for souvenirs and proper Cornish pasties.
This area is well worth staying at and we are looking at going again.

Just got back from a week camping here this was our first camping trip so decided to go with what we knew and haven is one of them sites that is easy.
When we got there we went to the touring caravan check in where we got our pitch which was right next to the toilet block and very cramped so asked to be moved. They were great and did so however was given a pitch which was waterlogged and they didn't want to change it
Site is a windtrap due to being within the sand dunes but it is an amazing view. Toilet blocks are not great the cleaners try but they are fighting a losing battle, water in the showers was luke warm which I hated.
The facilities on site are typical of a haven site lots of bars and eating areas however you need to get down there very early evening to even get a seat for the amount of people on site there are not enough seats in the bar areas and we did not get chance to use them.
The area is great the beach is a easy walk down but I heavy walk up we ended up driving down and parking so that we did not have to walk up the hill its very steep and not for unfit people like me lol. The price we paid I seen much nicer sites I would have rather have stayed on

We have just returned from a 12 night stay and have to say that despite the weather very windy and a lot of rain on and off we had a lovely time.
Yes it is a typical Haven Campsite heavily used slightly dated toilets etc. The site wardens regularly enter to Flush toilets and check. The toilets at times are not brilliant but it isnt entirely Havens fault, it is the filthy so and so's that don't clean up after themselves.Although it wouldn't cost Haven too much money to put a toilet brush in each toilet cubicle. Then maybe the toilets would be a little cleaner!
I must say the wardens of which there are many are very helpful and friendly. On one night it was blowing a gale the wardens were seen out in the middle of the night hammering tent pegs back into the ground of lots of tents. You need a mixture of tent pegs we took heavy duty ones for hard rocky ground but needed longer ones for sandy ground whereas on other parts of the site the ground is harder and stonier.
We arrived in the middle of the night after a 8 hour drive we did find the camping area not very well sign posted so ended up driving round and parking on the main carpark. On having a little walk, found where to go. We were allowed to pitch before our allocated time which was brill. Although you do have to be off by 10am not so good when you have a tent! As we were on an XL pitch we were on the family pitches so it wasn't overly noisy after 11pm no complaints there. I only heard the entertainment once late on but it didn't really bother us.
Yes it is expensive when you go into the show room for drinks etc. You do have to walk through lots of arcade games to get to the showroom and the funstars are constanltly pushing the sales of Bradley Bears.Flashing Head gear etc Remember HAVEN is a Money Making Enterprise. The on site shop is reasonable for some items and expensive for others.
The walk to the beach is very steep but is reasonably wide and is all sloped. There are stone steps but you don't have to use them. The walk to Perranporth is either across the sand dunes takes 10 mins or straight across the beach. You can also walk alongside the main road, there is a footpath that runs alongside the road behind a hedge its just as quick but doesn't have the same views.
In Perranporth there are plenty of shops selling pasties etc. There is a well stocked Co-op and a costcutter car parking varied from £3 to £4 all day parking. We did find out that the car park that is by the Italian Restaurant is £4 but if you spend £5 in the Pub that owns the carpark you get your £4 back.
There is also a Morrisons on the Road to Newquay about 5 mins drive from the campsite. In Winter 2009 There is an Aldi opening in Newquay.
Overall a lovely stay. Would we go back? To Perranporth YES would we stay on the Haven? Maybe if the price was right. We booked in January got 12 nights on XL electric pitch for £256(2 cars 3 adults 3 kids) we made friends with one couple total of 7 in family who paid over £700 for same size pitch for 14 nights.
