I had a lovely time at Budle Bay Campsite. The site managers couldn't have made me and my dog feel more welcome. We had a really nice spot near the stream and the site was clean and tidy and really quiet at night, despite many families being there with children. The stream is even home to a swan family who wander round the site during the day. The site is near to the coast, but nice and sheltered. There are no shops or pubs within easy walking distance, but the reception sells milk, ice lollies, gas cylinders and keeps some really useful items to borrow, like wine glasses, chairs, etc in case you arrive and have forgotten something. The site managers are exceptionally friendly and helpful, very knowledgeable about the area and happy to lend out maps and walking guides. They really helped to make my stay great.
HOWEVER, there is a rather big downside. The toilet and shower facilities are very tatty and barely adequate. There are only 3 working showers, which flood regularly and a broom has to be left handy to swoosh the water away, making the floor slippery. There was sometimes a very unpleasant smell of drains.
I would be delighted to return to this site, but only when the facilities have been improved. I shall be keeping an eye on reviews.

Had a fantastic time at Budle Bay Campsite - would definitely recommend and visit again. Wonderful wardens who were very helpful. Great location - very close to Banburgh/Lindisfarne and managed to do a good coastal walk down to Craster. Site facilities good, some work needed on the drainage in the shower block. Was able to use their freezer to keep the ice blocks cool for a small donation to a local charity.

What a beautiful site this could be, absolutely excellent wardens the friendliest we have ever met and we have been camping and caravanning for 20 years. This retro site is still back in the old days as far as toilets, but mainly the showers are concerned. The toilet cisterns in a few of the ladies were leaking and the floors were wet through. The shower block was running In water through out and there was a terrible smell which appeared to be from the open pipe work between the gents and the showers. I was later informed that this was probably from the septic tank. The children's' play area which consisted of a small slide and two swings was in this vicinity. This is a large site but had no outside lighting on the paths and especially the path by our trailer which was made of very uneven large stones which could pose a hazard to young and old alike. The site is perfect for visiting the local attractions and Bamburgh only a few minuets away is excellent for pub meals and coffee shops. Please bring the facilities into the present day and this site would be heavenly.

The location of the campsite is excellent for exploring Bamburgh, Holy island and Alnwick castle. The campsite has a nice river running through it which is relaxing to listen to flowing past the tent. As for the facilities the toilets rarely had any soap available, this is a basic hygiene issue, I do not expect to go to a toilet block and bring my own soap to wash my hands as well as a towel as they only had 1 dispenser and this was usually empty by late evening. The showers are still being built but are basic and flood, as they do not drain away correctly. We had no hooks to hang any of our clothes/towel etc on, but these were then added halfway through our stay (even if they were too high for some to reach!) The staff on site were very nice. The smell of drains washed over most of the field in front of the pods, this may have something to do with damaged drain lids on the field. The child's play area is ok, and the kids enjoyed playing on this and in the small wood. The cost of the site does not match the facilities, you do not get a set pitch size and the fact that you have to pay for all extras like tent porches and even windbreaks is not what I expect. The facilities the pods and the bunkhouse really need a lot of attention and smartening up so that people can have an excellent stay at this campsite. As the location is excellent, but the other things let it down too much for us to consider ever returning to this site.

The site is mainly flat grass, well sheltered by trees on all sides. It was clean and litter free throughout our stay, and very quiet at night despite many campers having young children. There is plenty of space for children to play safely, and a couple of swings. There is a stream along one boundary which is an attractive feature, but presents a very occasional flood risk.
The site is close to the coast and to tourist attractions such as Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle. However, there are no pubs or shops for several miles, and it is best to bring all your own supplies. However, the campsite sells milk and ice lollies, also a range of calor gas cylinders. The site managers were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and really helped to make our stay pleasant.
Now for the downside - the facilities are shabby and barely adequate. The showers flood regularly, and the floor is dangerously slippery. There is frequently an unpleasant smell of drains. The toilets sometimes run out of paper and liquid soap. However, I never had to queue to use showers or toilets. The site owner needs to address these problems urgently - ideally, knock down the tatty timber shower / dishwashing building, and replace it with something better. Despite these issues, we enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

We (couple and 2 kids aged 10 and 6) stayed in this park in early July. We arrived without a booking but were warmly greeted and shown a variety of very spacious flat pitches which suited us perfectly. This site in in a wonderful location, very close to Bamburgh(fabulous beach, impressive castle, great little museum) and convenient to Lindisfarne(fabulous day out), Seahouses (for fish and chips, souvenir shopping and boats to the Farne Islands to view puffins and seals) and yet is quiet, located in beautiful countryside and right beside the mudflats of Budle Bay, a bird watcher's paradise. Having never been to Northumbria before, I was very impressed with the beauty of the area and by how much there was to do. We ending up staying 10 days!
The site itself was quiet and peaceful. The toilet and shower facilities were basic but clean. There was plenty of hot water and campers were encouraged to mop out after showering, a mop and bucket being provided to encourage them. The washing up facilities were good, with plentiful hot water here too. Although we were satisfied enough with these facilities, I do feel that, were money available, modernising and extending the showers and toilets would definitely be a worthwhile investment.
There were only 2 swings, a slide and a climbing ladder, yet our kids happily played in this 'mini-playground' each day. The site was very child friendly and it was possible for us to see the kids as they rambled freely around the site with the other kids with whom they 'hooked-up'.
Our pitch was by the river and, as the policy seems to be not to put an additional layer in front, the big space between us and the road made our pitch seem huge.
The wardens were excellent. They were friendly and very helpful, yet did not intrude. My husband needed to return to Glasgow for a day and they spent a great deal of time and trouble helping him to check for the most convenient and cheapest options for train travel. They were very relaxed and easy-going but helped to create a warm atmosphere that seemed to spread amongst the campers!
My husband had his bike and discovered some beautiful local cycle routes right on the doorstep of the site, which was an unexpected bonus.
Budle Bay was a surprise find. If you are looking for clubhouse, restaurant, pool etc. , this is not the site for you but if you want an idyllic setting, clean if basic facilities, a warm welcome from efficient staff and an attractive spacious pitch, then, like us, you will be impressed with Budle Bay.

Myself and partner stayed at Budle Bay campsite for a week mid July. We received a warm welcome from the site wardens and they recommended a quiet pitch for us behind the office. However, they were very accommodating and let us choose our own pitch on the other side of the site near the river.
The site itself was fairly well maintained and the grass appeared to be regularly cut, there was also a small play area for children. The site was fairly full when we arrived however, there were no issues with noise once it was dark. There we also resident hens, sheep and two pigs.
The toilet block was basic but clean and well stocked with toilet roll, paper towels and soap. The shower block was again basic and the water didn't seem to drain well from the shower trays but the water was always hot.
The site wardens were wonderful, they were warm and friendly, helpful but in no way imposing. They lent my partner their after sun for his sunburnt feet. They also tried to find us a gas cylinder when they went to Berwick as they hadn't got a suitable one at the shop.
The surrounding area is absolutely stunning, there are many walks to do. The bay is a five minute walk if that and is good for bird lovers. A little further down the road towards Bamburgh and there is a footpath down to the sandy part of the beach which is beautiful and you can walk from here to Bamburgh. You can see Bamburgh castle and also Holy Island. The sunset is stunning from the beach. Seahouse is a short drive and has good fish and chips, a lovely green grocer and very handily a petrol station. Further down the coast is Ebleton Bay which is another stunning and secluded sandy bay. Craster is further down the coast and from here you can walk to Dunstanburgh Castle. You can also get amazing kippers on toast.
All in all we had a fabulous holiday and the campsite provided an excellent base for us during our stay. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend the campsite to others. Many thanks to the wardens who made the stay that extra bit special.

Not a bad site, in a good location, friendly wardens, well laid out lots of EHus, near to the fabulousness budle bay, which is mostly deserted, the site was not full to the capacity had it been the toilets and showers would have been a big problem, men's six wash basins and two urinals were ok, but toilets stalls 5 in total were always messed because of the system did not flush well, and without toilet brushes, what else can I say?
Shower block 6 cubicles, mixed which my wife objected to, although each shower had a curtain and a notice requesting to keep inside tray, and a squeeze mop, the floor was continually swimming, a small drain in the corner would elevate this, could do with some better facility's, money is being spent on new cabins etc, but some of it should be spent on a better separate shower block, they are sites near offering far better facility's for the same price.

Having read the reviews I was really looking forward to my visit, however, I have to confess I was somewhat disappointed with the facilities.
First impressions are very important and to have someone smoking in the Reception was a definite no no, however, the reception staff were indeed very friendly and always polite - giving you a smile and wave whenever you walked or drove past.
The site itself is very attractive on a small area of floodplain on the right bank of the burn that runs into Budle Bay and there are a number of trees along the burn and on the site, including a magnificent old ash tree near the shower block.
The shower and toilet block are one of the biggest criticisms of the site, especially the former, which is also where you do your washing-up. These are old portacabins that are well past their sell by date and are damp and smell so. My youngest daughter hated the smell so much she refused to help me with the washing-up. ! The showers were, as others have commented, poorly drained and at times water ran over the floor to pool in the corners of the portacabin, no doubt adding to the damp problems. However, the shower cubicles themselves were clean, free, and the water was lovely and warm. Moving onto the toilet block: this is a more recent construction of blockwork and is very basic - there are not a lot of hooks to hang things on and this leads to a lack of hygiene when you are cleaning your teeth, shaving etc. Even a shelf or two here would not go amiss and neither would some signage as these facilities were not easy to locate - they appeared derelict!
The pitches were flat and all had electric hook-ups, however, they were a little on the small side (9m by 9m)and, if you have any of the more modern tents such as the Outwells or HiGears, you will struggle to keep within the black markers on the rickety fences: indeed with guy ropes and an awning this is virtually impossible.
The main issue with the campsite through was the overwhelming smell of drains. We were on a pitch some 100m from the toilet block and we could smell sewerage during our entire stay and this smell was much worse elsewhere on the camp site. The weather was not particularly dry when we visited so this is not an explanation. The burn also had this smell in places along it although there was no evidence of pollution in the stream itself that I could see but, on account of the smell, I kept my children well away just in case.
Overall the campsite is in a lovely location but it needs a bit of investment in particular an upgrade to the toilet and shower blocks, an increase in the standard pitch size and an upgrade of the sewage system on the site. If this is done then I would be very happy to visit as the location in Northumberland is great, until then, unless you like the smell of drains, I would give this site a miss.

Booked last minute and received a very warm welcome. Showers are under going a refurb at the moment but we were able to use the bunkhouse and all fine. Basic shop and basic park, 2 swings and slide were enough to keep kids happy. Friendly site and only 3 tents in the field we were in. Wonderful view from tent and river was lovely to walk along. It rained 1 day we were there but short drive to seahouses and found a softplay, fish and chips wonderful.
