My son and I stayed here for the bank holiday weekend with our dog. The site is small, relaxed, friendly and clean. The showers were temporary (but better than most permanent ones), and the toilets were always clean. It certainly ticked all the boxes, and was a great base to explore. The owners were very friendly, informative and welcoming. Only warning is that walking from the site to Bamburgh can be tricky due to the small roads leading from the campsite (with no pavements/verges). However, we will most definitely be returning!

What a pleasant surprise it was to stay at Budle Bay. We arrived at very short notice and received a warm welcome for us and our dog. Originally planned to stay 2 nights but extended to 4. We had a lovely pitch near the river, which was sheltered by the trees from the worst of the wind. At the moment the site is undergoing major improvements which when completed will make this a an excellent site, but we were able to camp and the facilities were all still available for us to use. Site is set close to the beautiful Northumberland coast, and is a 20 minute drive to Seahouses/Holy Island and 30 to Berwick.

This is a very nice little site in a lovely location. The site is well kept and very tidy. It has a beautiful little river running around the edge of it and it's perfect for pitching your tent near, it gave it a real outdoors feel. The facilities were clean and tidy and replenished regularly.
We did a few walks while we were in the area and immediately out of the campsite the scenery is fantastic. Five minute walk from the bay and within ten minutes of walking you get the most fabulous view of Bambough castle. Two miles from Bambough and a five minute drive from a shop makes up for the lack of shop on site, which isn't needed.
Holy Island and the gorgeous white sand beach of Bambough and very close and a must see if your in the area.
The staff were very friendly and did everything to meet our needs. One thing I did like a lot was that you can leave freezer blocks in their freezer (like most places) but instead of a charge they asked for a donation to help for heroes.
This is a site I would recommend.

I camp with a tent for 4 nights at Budle Bay and had a lovely stay. The owners were lovely, very friendly and helpful and I was given free reign as regard to where to pitch my tent. Admittedly slightly off season and the site was quiet. It's a small campsite, with static caravans occupying the central area, pitches for tents running down one side, with caravan/camper area and a short stay area - all in the outer area. I chose to camp near to the small stream running alongside the site, which was very quite and calming.
Toilet block very clean and the showers, situated to the rear of the block had proper hot water! Two deep sinks alongside the block were for dishwashing. Location wise, it is well situated close to all of the major sites ie Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, Lindisfarne Priory, Dunstanburgh Castle etc and the Coast and beaches are very nearby.
I enjoyed my stay.

Two miles off the A1, a couple of miles from superb, uncrowded beaches. Budle Bay, quarter of a mile away, is a muddy estuary with great bird life. Roads are twisty, busy: car needed to get to the beach.
Edge of site is a small, shallow river (Waren Burn) good for older children to play in, but a worry with younger children as river bank up to four or five feet (1. 5 metres) high, and steep. There are a couple of swings and a slide. When we stayed at end of August ambience was good, family atmosphere, no noise problems, not too crowded. Insect repellent might be needed sometimes. Wardens very kindly lent us their own! Nearest shops including Coop at Belford, lovely quiet village on other side of A1. Parking far easier there than in Seahouses.
We used an 'ecotent'. Small wooden sheds, with pleasant outlook across the site and river. Most are fitted out with four bunks, plywood table and benches, plywood work surface, electric sockets and a single lightbulb. Rather cramped, very basic, sloppily put together with some big panel gaps. For a small family they make a good tent substitute, reasonably priced at least in high season terms, and weatherproof. Ecotent cooking and fridge/freezer facilities are shared, in a separate shed – arrangement worked well when we were there. Two washing up sinks for the entire site, inadequate.
Panelling etc for shower and toilet cubicles beyond shabby, urgently needs replacing. Site facilities seem to have been done on the cheap, bodged, shoddy. There was a cordoned off grass area below the toilets, a chronic leak with smell of drains.
Perhaps the site’s best assets or its saving grace are this year’s wardens, who are gems. They deserve better, and so do the customers. This place could be so much better, even if it could never compete with sites right by the beach, such as the lamented former Beachcomber site nearby. Have booked to return to this beautiful area at half term, but to a different site. Wouldn’t rule out returning to Budle Bay site.

We stayed in the campsite's 'Eco-tents' for a couple of nights starting on the day after the bank holiday weekend. These were effectively large garden sheds with bunks, a table/chairs and a worktop. It was a bit rough and ready, but was clean and the mattresses were new. The sheds are set aside from the touring and static caravans, but close to some tents. They have a good fields close to the small river for games, although the cars parking directly on front of the Eco-tents spoils this a little. Canopies between the sheds would also add to the 'liveable outdoor space'.
The wardens were very welcoming and friendly and staff a useful essentials shop at reception. The toilet block was ok, but (as with all sites) could do with cleaning twice a day. There is a little playground to keep younger kids happy, although the 'river ropeswing' others have mentioned is now gone.
On reflection the ecotents didn't work for us. We are used to tent camping and found them a little dis-connected from nature. If they were not in a 'line' and spread amongst trees it would be better.
The surrounding area is amazing with Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadnell and Low Newton-by-the-sea. Local pubs in each of these locations are superb, with The Ship in Newton the best in my opinion.
We would return for a few nights, but probably in our tent.

Spent over a week at the site and enjoyed it. Site is smallish and never feels busy or cluttered even when the sign at reception says 'full'. Site managers are very friendly and helpful.
We were allowed to take up loads of space with our tent. Great for kids. The small play area is adequate, but nothing to rave about - it's a couple of swings and a slide. Toilet block was cleaned daily, but is looking a bit past it (cubicle panels are swelling from water damage at the bottom) and would benefit from a refit.
The showers at the rear are hot, but could also do with a refit (panelling on walls are looking a bit past it, lino flooring a bit unsightly and shower tray drains occasionally block). Site is fairly flat and very well drained. Grass is regularly cut.
Very good beaches within a mile or so. You need to head out to Belford for provisions.
Overall, fine, but don't expect glamping, this camping!

We arrived at the campsite and we given a very warm welcome from the campsite wardens Jane and Alan, who were really friendly and were fantastic throughout our stay. Anything we needed, they were more than willing to help, giving us ideas of where to get food and supplies, to places to park in Bamburgh!
The campsite was lovely and very well looked after. We camped by the river which was lovely and a lot of people were taking advantage of having a little cool down in it!
There was a bunk house and some eco tents which looked great and there was the option to have electric hook ups!
The toilet and shower blocks were ok, however a little dated but this didn't really matter too much and were kept fairly clean. We were informed that they will be updated for next year which really improve an already great campsite! If you are someone who likes to be able to dry their hair or even straighten it there was a plug socket in the toilet block!
There is a small play area for children and a rope swing, that swung over the river! This was very popular! :)
The reception has a small shop which sells drinks and a few snacks but there is a Co-op in Seahouses (just down the coast) or in Belford (on the otherside of the A1)
We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it!

I was very pleased with this site. We went for a few days with our 15 month old and despite it being high season and fully booked on the Friday night it was extremely quiet and peaceful. I think the wardens make a point of ensuring even large groups don't disturb their neighbours.
We requested a quiet spot even if it was far from the wash block and were given a large (vast!) space behind the reception building. It was the furthest spot from the wash block but was still only approx 200m as this is not a big site.
The area was very flat if not totally smooth which was great as my partner hates camping on even a tiny slope.
The facilities are simply a basic shop (in the reception building), two washing up sinks, male and female toilets and a few shower cubicles. There also a small park with a couple of swings and a slide (too advanced for our daughter).
Our only complaint was that the showers are not hot enough - they were just about warm enough to stand under and wash my hair but I got out as soon as I could. The toilets are also quite old but cleaned regularly.
The site is in a fantastic location - a couple of miles drive (if that) to stunning Bamburgh Castle and a long long gorgeous sandy beach. I can't recommend this part of the coast enough.
Overall, this site suited us because of the extremely welcoming and helpful staff, its small size and quietness and superb location.

We stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend with 3 children (aged 7, 4 and 2) and found it to be a lovely site. It was only our 2nd ever camping trip so I haven't got a huge amount to compare it to but the wardens were friendly and made us feel very welcome and the site was mostly peaceful overall (apart from a few people talking loudly until fairly late on the first night).
When we arrived there was a sign saying the site was fully booked but they obviously take care not to overcrowd as there was still plenty of space between pitches and open spaces for the children to play games in. The kids also really enjoyed the rope swing over the river, although the children's play area is just a slide and a couple of swings so more suited to quite young children. I also felt it was a bit unfortunate that the bins were situated right next to the play area as they were all full and smelled a bit but the kids didn't seem to mind.
The toilet and shower block were basic but functional and clean with plenty of hot water so fulfilled their purpose and we didn't have to wait to use them at all. There is also a small shop in reception selling basics which is handy.
The location is great for exploring the Northumberland coast. We spent a day at Alnwick Garden, had fish & chips in Seahouses, had another day at Bamburgh Castle and also squeezed in a trip to Holy Island to see a Viking battle re-enactment, all in just 2 days!
I would definitely recommend this site and we hope to be paying them another visit soon.
