Stayed here for a couple of nights this weekend. After reading a couple of reviews was a bit hesitant but on arrival reported to the office and found the warden very helpful. The site is well looked after, grass mowed and no litter. There is a strict no noise curfew after 11.00pm but as the site was relatively quiet anyway didn't get bothered by noise.
Whilst the toilet and shower blocks aren't exactly modern they were clean and tidy with free hot showers. The sign at the entrance to the site says the gates are locked at 11.00pm so unless you are on foot you will need to be back before then with your car. Not a bad policy and a bit more secure.
Will be going back in the summer holidays with family. Bambourgh village and castle 5 mins away from site by car and seahouses 10 mins. Plenty of shops and garage there. Holy island and lindisfarne about 25-30 minute run up a1 from site.

Great little park. There was 4+ a dog in our party so was cheap as chips at £35 for the weekend. The owners were very helpful and nice. The only thing that lets the site down is the shower and toilet block and they could do something more with the cafe. The area is also very nice with bambourgh only 2 miles and has some very nice bars. Seahouses is also very close only 6 miles and is also a nice little town very friendly people.
All in all a nice site in a very nice area we will definitely go back.

I stayed at this site for 4 nights and enjoyed it
As previously stated the facilities are basic and do need some updating but are still usable. The cafe was a welcome surprise although a bit hit and miss with opening times, I did enjoy a good fry up a couple of mornings. I think a small shop within the Cafe would be ideal
Locally what can one say absolutely stunning landscape everywhere you look although I thought the trips out to the Farne Islands a bit steep (but I'm a miser). Holy Island is a must for every visitor to the area as are all the castles Seahouses is very nice for fish and chips
The famous Alnwick Castle and gardens are only half hour away
All in all a very handy site if a bit basic

This was our very first camping trip. We have a 3 man vargo tent. The site was basic. No new toilet block yet! Still everything you needed was there.
The tree swings no longer exist(health and safety). We were a little bit disappointed with the children's play area. Our boy is five and there wasn't much there for him.
Our pitch was by the river, fairly flat and the site was quiet at night. A bit pricey at £40 for 2 nights given the facilities available. Overall a good experience for first time though.

Just returned from Bank Holiday at this site having had generally good weather although it was brass monkey's at night! We had to stay here as all the other sites were booked up in advance
First the good points: the site has plenty of space and the ground was good for getting pegs in. There are plenty of water points and when we arrived the friendly manager directed us to a quiet spot on the site, near the small play area and close to the river. There is a cafe which is useful as the nearest shops are a good 5-6 miles away although we didn't try the food.
Okay bad points: the place seems to be based on Mr Fiddler's site in Carry on Camping - very run down and with derelict caravans scattered along the river edge - clearly the site has been flooded fairly recentlyand there is still evidence of this around the lower end of the site even to the extent that one of the caravans is just a chassis! The toilet block desperately needs updating; we were there for 2 nights so didn't brave the showers as they looked dangerous to be honest! There is now a cover over the outside sinks but there was only one plug between 5 sinks in the gents and the block needed a good clean - not just the floor but all over. Some of the tent pitches are on a pretty steep slope, although the site did appear to be well drained overall. Although the river does run along the edge of the site - there is quite a lot of rubbish in it including breeze blocks which have been dumped on the edge, perhaps an attempt to slow down the erosion? The site is also bordered across the river by the main Bamburgh to Belford road which got quite busy in the mornings and late at night with the boy racers - we live in Newcastle so are used to noise but this was intrusive in an otherwise pretty spot.
Overall it's a nice site in a nice position but sorely neglected however I'd be happy to use it again just for a weekend if it wasn't for one last thing - yes it's a simple budget site but £35 for 2 nights is not a budget price however you look at it.

31 October - end of the season. Really sorry to pack up for the winter. This is an idyllic site marred only by the loo and shower facilities. I have to grit my teeth before contemplating wrapping myself in my towel and heading for the shower block. Not a mirror in sight and nowhere to hang your clothes while showering - hence the towel [ in all weather]!
However, rumour has it that new facilities are planned SOON - great!
George and Jenny, who manage the site, are very helpful and George handles any noisy visitors to perfection. The 11pm rule is strictly adhered to!
The cafe was a hit and miss affair this year.Campers need to know that good food is available throughout the season so let's hope that problem is resolved next season.
So - roll on 1st March 2010!

I stayed at this campsite in may. Arrived off the bus from newcastle to berwick right outside the camp. I was greeted by a friendly man who told we where to pitch & offered did I need any help for anything, I didn't but said thank you anyway. I was charged 8 pound which I thought was a bit steep for a 2 man tent with just one camper using it. The normal rate is about 5-6 pound & they are on better sites. The toilet/shower facilities were looking as if they need a big upgrading but were still quite clean. The positives were being in such a beautiful area surrounded by some lovely towns like Bamburgh & Seahouses. The negatives are tired facilities & nothing within a couple of miles of the camp site.
PS but its on the Newcastle/Berwick busline so another bonus.

I have just returned from a fantastic week in northumberland. I would recommend Budle bay to families, it is a peaceful and friendly site. On Arriving at the camp site I was greeted by the very friendly campsite owners, throughout my stay they demonstrated some of the best customer service I have ever seen any where, I am very grateful for their help when it was needed.
The facilities on the site are fine, everything you could need, toilets, shower, lots of power hookups, and lots of taps (no hunting for water or trailing a long way with water cans) not amazing quality, everything is clean enough, if you want 5 star facilities stay in a five star hotel.
The on site cafe is particularly welcome, providing good camping food, breakfasts, toasted sandwiches, all very good value - nothing flash but perfect for camping, I have to recommend a slice of home made cake, different everyday and a bargain at 50p a slice, great with a cup of tea. The cafe also doubles as the camp shop selling most essentials - other wise I used the Co-op in Berwick.
The location of this site is great, the beach is very close, though you should be warned if you walk to the beach you will have to walk a short distance along a busy country lane, with no pavements, fine for me not great with small children, though their are many free parking spaces very close to the beach - and the beaches are fantastic, ideal for children - not crowded and very clean. For those not wanting beaches Budle bay is close to Bamburgh castle ( you can walk their along the beach if you are so inclined). Also close by Lindisfarne, Berwick upon Tweed and Sea houses, not too far to Alnwick.
This is a great family site with lots of space, a play area and tree swings ( very popular), the owners do not over fill the site so all everyone has lots of space to relax. As it was mostly families the site becomes very quiet from about 10pm - I loved this as we where able to chill out in piece under stunning clear skies.
I do love this site, it is slightly run down, I felt that I had gone back in time to the 1970's - which I loved. This site has a number of old caravans around the site, some obviously never used. The new owners are working hard to improve the site but this will take time, I just hope they do not take out the heart of this wonderful family site.
One final piece of advise bring citronella candles and bug spray, the site is in a valley next to a stream, so lots of mosquitos in the evenings- not too bad but a little irritating, Avons Skin so soft worked for me along with the Citronella candles meant I was only bitten once.

Visited the site on speck having decided on a last minute break for three nights only. The dilapidated site entrance should have warned us. The grass was overgrown and an excuse from the warden about having paid someone to cut it recently. Showers and toilets - No hot water until the last day and two showers without water at all. Toilets in a disgraceful state and the one hand dryer didn't work in the gents. Cafe was a greasy spoon with sky-high prices. Overall, this has to be the worst site I have ever stayed on in over 30 years of camping. Couldn't stand another day of cold showers so left after the second day. There are no nearby shops so take everything with you. Surrounding area fantastic but stay somewhere else.

Welcomed by very nice lady, free to choose pitch for tent. However site advertised as having a nice river running through it which was actually a bit whiffy. Derelict caravans dotted site making it unsightly. Facilities basic, showers hot though. However shower block and toilets filthy. When reported to cafe, staff proceeded to pick up some loo roll from the floor and gas the blocks with industrial strength air freshener. Blocks need to be checked regularly and cleaned. The site was in a convenient location close to Belford which we visited for supplies. However would not visit again. Poor value for money due to state of facilities.
