Situated in a lovely area near Bamburgh with access to the beach. The site was uneven for pitching the tents, however very picturesque. The toilet and shower block is the worst we have seen whilst camping. The two staff were as helpful as they could be, with over 150 tents on site. At times it was very noisy until 2am in the morning, with very little consideration for campers with children

Overall not a site we would return to until the amenities were vastly improved

A warm and friendly welcome but a disappointing bank holiday weekend. The campsite is in a lovely setting in a great part of the country (beaches were lovely). The facilities were terrible they weren't cleaned often enough (cold showers, no light in the ladies toilets). The site was over crowded cramped conditions and noisy - we were there over the bank holiday and on two of the three nights the noise was still going on way after 1.00am.

Previous reviews alluded to improvements having been made by new owners - these are not obvious if any have been made - apparently they are struggling to get planning permission to make the changes they want to! On a positive note the staff we spoke to were very friendly and helpful every time we saw them - there is just too much for them to do.

We visited this site at bank holiday weekend, the only site in the county not fully booked. We were very disappointed as we read all the previous year reviews and thought that improvements would of been made for this year. It was the most expensive pitch fee we have paid and the worst facilities we have experienced. We even drove home to have a shower as they we the worst we have ever seen.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and trying to make the best of a bad job. There were a lot of old dirty caravans that looked like they hadn't been stopped in for years that spoilt the look of the site. On a positive note the kids and hubby loved the tree swings and everyone was very friendly. We would only return to this site if a new toilet and shower block was built

We booked Budle Bay for one night recently, the owner's were friendly and told us that they had recently taken over the site and were trying to "improve things".
The site itself is quite near a busy road, so you do get traffic noise, we were told just to find anywhere we could fit our pitch, this made the whole site look a bit ram shackled.
The toilet block was dated and dirty, with no soap available.
We had pitched near to what appeared to be resident caravans and felt intimidated by the owners.
Most tents had chose to pitch in the centre of the site, and used their car stereos for entertainment, along with the disposable BBQ.
The Canteen looked to be a bit shabby as it was an old Portakabin, we can't comment on the food as we never tried it.
Play facilities for children was a see-saw and a wooden climbing frame with 2 tyre swings.
This site has a long way to go before it appears as good as most others we've stayed in.

It had been raining for a few weeks before we arrived. Still managed to find an area for our tent. Good part of the tent area was like swamp.

I agree with the previous comments about their first impressions. But please, if you are considering this site, judge it on it's atmosphere and the improvement work you can witness for yourself. The new building going up behind reception for example.

A small river runs down the side of the site. The boys loved playing there. Take wellies, flip-flops and a net.

We had a great weekend there and are going back for a week in August!

Just to advise everyone that the site has changed hands and is now in new ownership.
Not many changes but they are installing new solar water panels which should sort out the perennial shower issues.
They also intend to renew the sewerage system, but not until the close season.
You may find the cafe is not open as much as in previous years but they are advertising for staff in order to open longer hours, especially in the school holidays.
A few vans have relocated making even more open spaces for visitors and apart from the few things above its business as usual and its still a great place to chill out and let your hair down.

On arriving I thought this was a settlers camp but it turned out to be a relaxed campsite with 50 odd resident vans.
Everything is quite old, but new owners seem to be improving things. The toilet and shower block are dated but loo roll given by Neil at reception, who also cooked us an amazing thai curry in the cafe(which is actually an old builders hut)
If you want a simple relaxed (occasionally noisy) site without twee pitches this is the one. If you want perfect pitches with all amenities forget it.
Neil also killed the noise at about 11.45 (does he do everything?) which was ok
No bar on site so b.y.o !

Visited this site for two nights. Had read quite friendly reviews by other visitors. Unfortunately this site didn't live up to expectations. On arrival very grubby looking reception (new one being built). Lots of long term pitched vans. No one at reception. We were told to pitch near to reception where ground was very uneven. However able to position caravan anyway we liked - great to keep an eye on the kids outside. Electric tripped off all the time, and we were given a screwdriver to sort it out ourselves which we did several times. Toilets not up to much. Playground a bog with see saw and wood frame. Tent area looked like good fun especially for young groups. Great position for local area - seahouses, alnwick, holy island and bamburgh. Expensive for what it was. Won't hurry back.

To be honest I was in two minds about this site.  It is accessed over a little bridge and that leads to a big field with another just above it.  It had lots of big caravans on for those who have seasonal pitches and I assume that there are some who live there for most of the year.

The field was big with lots of lush green grass.  We were told to put it where we liked.  The caravans were put at different angles we didn't have to go in one direction.  Which felt strange but at the same time a bit of freedom.

Our friends came later with two tents and pitched around us.  Later that night the site started to fill up and we were surrounded by tents, which was great.
The top field was used by tents who didn't have electric hookups, with the field being somewhat on a slope it wasn't suitable for caravans.  But it looked great, and everyone was having a great time.

The toilets were a let down, was given a toilet roll at reception and there was no soap in the toilets.  The showers were around the other side and were unisex, I believe there was only three.  They were the press in type and only lasted a few seconds.   There was a laundry and a couple of sinks for washing up.

On site there was a game room and a cafe, didn't go in.  The kids went in and said it was really cheap with homemade chocolate cakes, pop and icepops.  They did sell bread, milk, bacon etc.

The reason I was in two minds about the site was that it didn't look much when we got there.  But the atomsphere was brilliant.  We were crammed in and for the first time I didn't mind.  People were awake til after 12.  And the chatter on site was really loud during the day and night - Wonderful
What made it was the party friendly feel and the freedom.  Loved it.

The site is only a couple of minutes to the beach. A few miles to Bamburgh, had a sunday lunch there, smallish pub overlooking the green.   20 mins to Alnwick and the gardens and castle.

Overall a great site but I don't think we will be going back due to the price.  Had to pay seperate for everything.  Caravan, awning, hookup, 2 adults and 3 kids came to £28 per night, just too expensive.

Visited over may 2007 bank holiday, this site seems to be under new management but its still very friendly and reasonably priced. We have stayed here before and I think the showers and toilets have improved but are still basic.
The site was very busy but still enough room for everyone, the weather was not great but lots of trees for shelter from the wind and well drained for heavy rain.
Would visit again as you don't need to book and they seemed to try and fit everyone in
