Location - Perfect for a base around the Bamburgh / Alnwick / Berwick area.

Campsite - Friendly staff. It is not the prettiest site, the road is very bumpy, it is untidy around the site with old abandoned caravans / projects, some pitches are on a slope.

Nearby - There is some road noise and if you visit at harvest time the combine harvester in the fields next door is going very noisily until 2300 hours and kicks up a lot of dust.

Prices - I've paid less for more but the location is the advantge to this site.

Toilets - I've known much better!

Showers - Tired, need refurbishing. The water comes through extremely hot therefore I learnt to go at the end of the morning rush when they'd cooled at bit, however you then run the risk of a cold shower.

Youths - It has a bunk house next to the shower block and during my stay was a youth project using the bunk house. The language was highly unsavoury and I had to approach the project leaders to complain. I felt very sorry for the families who had to camp next to the bunk house.

Play Area - There is one. A small area with a wooden swing x 2 and a climbing frame.

Shops/Pubs/Attractions - None nearby, the nearest Co-op etc is in the next village approx 5 miles away.

Prices - A touch on the high side for what you get but you are paying for the location which in all honesty makes all the negatives somewhat unimportant.

Overall, if you plan to stay on site then I don't recommend this is the place for you but as a base for exploring Northumberland then it's superb.

First Visit here after passing it for the last 20 years or so, last Minute booking, arrived 7.30 pm Got EHU, close to reception.

Site is slightly bumpy but that aside everything else was good, plenty of room & everyone in good spirits & great service,

Toilet block was clean,

Area was great just a couple of Minutes walk to Waren Mill bay, Location makes it easy to go to Holy island, & Bamburgh & seahouses, Northumberland coast gotta be the best in the whole of England, well I do live close by & would say this but Bamburgh beach & view of castle are tops

Will visit again soon

We are just back from Budle Bay Campsite after our third visit this year and I can honestly say this is my favourite site so far.

The site manager couldn't be more friendly, he showed us where to pitch our caravan so we would get the early morning sun and helped set up our TV (there is great reception on freeview)

The toilets do I know need an upgrade, but they were as usual, spotless. The showers again were lovely and clean with bags of hot water. The first night my shower didn't drain away very quick and I spoke to the manager and he was there within minutes with his plunger.

The site isn't the most tidy site we have visited, and there are some old caravans at the bottom end of the site that does spoil that part of the site but as we were there midweek we were able to have the pick of pitches at the top end of the site, so I suppose it was a case of out of site out of mind, and I do agree I wouldn't want a pitch next to them.

There are no pubs or shops within walking distance but there is a co-op in Beford, just three miles away if you need anything.

We have already booked a weeks holiday in July but I can assure you we will be back before then. Wee Sandi

It was our very first experience of camping in our trailer tent and we booked into budle bay campsite for two nights.

On arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff and were shown to our pitch which was great, right next to the toilet and shower block, both very clean.

We had a great time as everyone on the site were really friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night due to rain coming through our tent as we were lied to about the weather proofing.

We will certainly go back after we sort our tent.

We visited this site over the Easter weekend for 3 nights and it was amazing, staff were so friendly and kept the site in order at all times. There was a good clean toilet block with showers to the rear, these were clean at all times.

We visited Bamburgh & Seahouses but to be honest spend most of our time on the site as we had family & friends come to visit. One member of our family ended up booking into the WigWam at very short notice and enjoyed it that much they stayed for 3 nights.Great times & great service from the Site staff.

Will be back again!

Just returned from 4 nights camping at the Budle Bay campsite. Before we left, we were a bit anxious having read a number of negative reviews about the site, however we found them completely unfounded.

We are a twenty-something couple with no children, but I would happily take children there and will be recommending to family and friends! It's a basic site, a field with decent washing facilities, in a good central location for visiting Northumberland. If you want any more than that, it may not be the site for you, for us it was perfect!

We were told to pitch wherever we liked, with a few tips on where we might consider and found a nice spot by the stream that runs around the outside, this gave us some privacy on that side, and no one pitched very close anyway. It seemed like the pitches that were closer to each other were those that required electric hook-ups but it seemed like that was more likely a limit of cable length than anything else!

There was a side field where about half of the tents ended up, which was on a hill - but it kept the sun for much longer in the evening (it loses the sun far earlier on the stream side!) so it depends what's more important to you (and how early you arrive to get the pick of the spots!).

The toilets were always warm (even though it was quite cold overnight!) and cleaned at least once a day, there was always toilet roll available and the showers looked like they had had a spruce up, they were also very warm (very welcoming after a cold night in the tent!) and we never had to queue even though the site was fully booked (we got up about 7:30-8ish each morning, so it may have been busier later on).

They are individual shower cubicles, with space to hang clothes up to keep them dry, there aren't separate mens and womens but that's because it's not really necessary and they were always clean, wear flip flops to keep your feet warm /dry when you get out though as the floors are tiled! The outdoor sinks were under a cover, and you could easily see when they were free.

There isn't a beach in walking distance - Budle bay is fantastic for bird watching though and is beautiful in the evenings, being only a 5 min walk away it was fantastic. Bamburgh beach is a 5 min drive away and is beautiful and very big. Seahouses is a nice town, a few touristy shops and don't miss the boat to the Farnes! All in all, everyone was very friendly. Bargain price too compared to other sites locally.

We never used the cafe on site, so I'm not sure what that is like, however local shops are a 10min drive away and if you're visiting other places it's easy to find food (we stayed over the royal wedding weekend and it was still easy to buy things!)

Went to this site when the new owners had just taken it over (said they had great plans). My first thought was oh no, anyway we booked in and pitched our tent with EHU. Then we went and checked out the toilet, showers etc.

Hmmm, showers, no way would I use them or let my kids ages 9, 7, 6 and I have showered in some poor places, having served in the army for over a decade.

Toilets not so clean and also in need of update.

Pots and pan wash area ok.

Also old run-down sited derelict caravans around the site.

One tyre swing for the kids which broke.

Child on bike smashed into the side of our car (dents). Child ok, Bad points over.

The site itself could be a dream with a little work, small stream running through it and ideal location.

Price was good to pitch however this year it has gone up 3 fold paying for the upgrades I guess.

We have just come back from a truly wonderful Easter break at the Budle Bay Campsite. I do not understand the comments about the cold water we were up and showered by eight o'clock and the showers were hot and after a day on the beach at Bamburgh we had hot showers again at six o'clock at night.

The toilets and showers do need an upgrade but were always clean and had obviously been freshly painted.(we saw the manager cleaning the toilets at 6am) It's true the site is a bit bumpy but that doesn't affect caravans.

The site manager was very friendly and helpful, even at 8.30pm when our electric supply tripped he was happy to come and put things right for us.

Overall the site was a happy, friendly place and we will certainly be back again

An update on my review from August. New owners mean that things are now improving.

Booking was a lot clearer with excellent email communication and on arrival this time we were shown to our pitch, which was much bigger than last year.

The toilet block has had a good clean and a coat of paint and the showers have new floors and ceilings, making them look a lot more appealing.

Still problems with water pressure/temperature (go for a shower really early if you want hot water!) but the owner is aware of this and I'm hoping that this will be the next thing on the list as it's the only thing stopping this from being my favourite site.

Great visits to Bamburgh, Holy Island, Farne Islands and Warkworth.

We arrived at Budle Bay campsite on friday evening with our two children and dog, we had booked and paid in full for three nights. We left first thing on Saturday morning.

There was no hot water throughout our time there, when we took this up with the site manager we were told that there was a tank of hot water but it 'wasn't coming through', this wasn't much use to us! When we were unable to even take a shower on Saturday morning we decided that we could not stay for the weekend with two young children.

In addition to this, we found the site to be scruffy, uneven and really quite unwelcoming. There was very little to do on the site and certainly no beach within walking distance, as we were lead to believe.

Even if the showers had hot running water, they were dirty and the doors leave them somewhat open to the elements - the shower block is also shared.

The electricity hook-ups are sub-standard and we spent the entire friday evening waiting for the trips to cool down before they could be reset, this was caused from putting either the heating or the television on in the caravan.

When we took up our grievances with the Site Manager on the saturday morning and explained that we felt unable to stay, we were told that we could not have a refund as no money is kept on site which we accepted, we then asked for written confirmation that we would get a refund and were told that the Site Manager was 'unable to make that decision', we asked to speak to the site owner and were told that this was not possible, nor could we have a contact number for them.

We ended up leaving without a refund rather than spoil our weekend and were given our original booking form back with the campsite owners address on the reverse of it, which I will now endeavour to try and get a refund.
