The location of this site is a huge selling point. We took a fantastic walk along the coast to Bamburgh Castle, taking in the rugged coastline and blowing the cobwebs out. Ended up in a pub near the castle that did lovely food. Taxi back after a few too many beers cost us about £7!
Toilets and showers were numerous and clean. Not the most modern but more than adequate. The site is in a lovely setting with a river running along the edge of it. But we chose to stay in the other field near the cafe as we had it to ourselves. There were a fair few people staying there during our stay but we still found it peaceful because of the size.
The owners were friendly and helpful from our first booking enquiry until we left. We loved this site because of the chilled ambience and the pigs who live near the entrance. We will definitely be going back.

Visited the site for easter bank holiday, last minute booking as parents were staying on Waren Mill and they were fully booked. Met by friendly host but found that most pitches weren't very well kept and the ground was very bumpy. Lighting on the site wasn't very adequate. Toilets were really dated and during the weekend we stayed there was no hot water, luckily having family stay close by we used theirs, minimal playground, not sufficient if there are a few families staying. The site itself is in a great area and if some improvement was put into levelling the ground, cutting the grass and updating the showerblocks etc then we would gladly return

This site definitely grew on us over the course of the weekend!
Booking was confusing - I initially booked EHU but when I phoned a couple of days before going to confirm everything I was told I couldn't have electric. Then when I got there I was told I did have electric! Luckily I'd taken the kit with me just in case!
Note that the hook-up points along the river are only 5amp and trip when you so much as look at them. The others are mostly 16amp though so I asked the warden nicely and he let me hook up to one of them.
Most of the site has level, grass pitches, although the ground was very uneven so had to pitch carefully to avoid sleeping in a hole! A few hard standing pitches were also dotted about.
Be aware that this site does allow large groups so it has the potential to be quite noisy but everyone we met was very friendly and all were quiet from 11pm.
The site is in a beautiful spot and provides plenty of shelter on a stretch of the coast which is always windy. The weekend we were there was exceptionally windy (couldn't stand up straight at Bamburgh!) but there were no casualties on the site.
There is a small river running through the site which is shallow enough for the kids to splash around in. There's also a very small play area, although this isn't great and the kids quickly got bored of it.
The toilet blocks were clean-ish but could do with updating. They close for an hour each day for cleaning - men's close at 8am, not sure about ladies but think they did them in the afternoon.
The showers are very grotty. They were clean enough but they're just so old that they look terrible. There was also mildew on the ceilings. Water temperature was a problem too. There was no hot water at all anywhere on the site on the Saturday morning (this was rectified and didn't happen again throughout the weekend) but then the shower temperature on Saturday evening was so hot that I wouldn't let the kids use them (no temp controls).
Two sinks in the covered washing up area had plenty of hot water.
There's no shop and the on site cafe didn't open at all during our stay.
Although I've made a fair few criticisms we will definitely be back. There was plenty of room between pitches, the site itself is absolutely beautiful, and the surrounding area is fantastic. A very basic site with no airs and graces but a lovely place to escape to.
Fab days out to Bamburgh, Holy Island, Seahouses and Alnwick.

This camp site is in a perfect place to explore the coast around Holy Island, Bamburgh, Seahouses and into Alnwick.
Its not really ideal if you want to spend hours on site. If a site with lots to do (clubhouse, loads of facilities, shop, bar etc) is for you go next door.
Its friendly, lots of kids getting together for kickabouts, compact, has lots of toilets in one block at the top of the site, 5 showers, a cafe with reasonable food- bit like a truck stop but cheerful, big covered washing up sink area and little kids play area (not for small kids as too far away from main tent area but keeps older kids happy). Nice river running through.
Several caravans on site all year round so many families come back weekend after weekend- makes site very friendly and safe. Cheerfully noisy until dark then silent! The facilities are old and need a lick of paint but working.
Showers are free and we didn't have to wait (temp varied)Facilities were cleaned daily but remained a bit grubby in the corners. Not for glamping but ideal to explore beautiful local area.

Not a bad site overall. When we arrived we found our booking to be incorrect, we weren't booked in for electric- however it was quickly sorted, but from what I witnessed the incorrect booking thing was a regular occurance, so double check your booking with this site as it doesn't seem to be too orgainsed.
We were told where to pitch and ended up pretty close to the tent next door, but we pitched there, even though there was more space available, so there was no need to be so close in the end.
We were only there for 2 nights, so avoided the showers. The toilet block was cleanish and basic. The little cafe was handy, but would much prefer a shop instead.
I'm not so sure how strict the no noise policy was. I passed a bunch of tents at 1am when on the way to the toilet block and there were still people sitting up, laughing and talking loudly, just pleased we weren't within ear shot of them.
This campsite has a good location, just a few minutes freom Bamburgh, with a lovely beach (and dogs allowed all year) which was a bonus for our greyhound.
Would go back again.

We have just returned from a 3 night break at this well located site. The guys in the cafe were very friendly, but unfortunately I can't say the same for the man who checked us in, not really helpful at all -pointing us in 'that direction' and pitch your tent!
I never even attempted a shower the whole time we were there as they were not what you would call clean or well kept. However the surrounding area doesn't let you down as Bamburgh, Seahouses, Holy Island and definitely The Farne Islands are all worth a visit.
The children's play area is out of the way from the main fields and needs a little love and attention
We might revisit the site after a little updating has occurred.

Having just returned from a one night stay at this campsite I feel compelled to write a review.
We arrived at the site without a booking on Saturday 14th August, we had a tent and motorhome, 4 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs.
On arrival the male warden who checked us in was quite affable and although he said they were fully booked, did find us a spot (which was unsuitable for the tent but after speaking to his wife this was sorted). The campsite was by no means full and there was plenty of space.
First impressions were good. A nice level site. Electric hook-up if you want it (which we didn't) and not too bad on price, it was £33. 50 for all of us.
Then we visited the toilet block. What can I say? If you value your health, don't stay at this site. We have never stayed at a site as dirty or neglected. The disposal point for the chemical toilets is right outside the toilet block and faces onto the seating area of the cafe (which we didn't use after seeing the toilet area). The showers were just disgusting and needless to say we didn't use them.
On Sunday morning when my husband used the men's bathroom the warden entered to 'clean' the area. He used a piece of toilet roll to wipe over one of the toilet seats in one cubicle, then on entering another which was apparently in need of cleaning, used language which quite frankly I wouldn't dare to repeat on here. He poured some domestos into the urinals and that was the sum-total of the cleaning. The sinks were caked in flies and moths but they didn't get touched.
There is that saying that you get what you pay for. But to be honest we paid and didn't really get anything here apart from a piece of grass to camp on.
Luckily the people who we travelled with had a mobile home so we were able to use their toilet.
There's a 'park' of sorts but most of the equipment was unusable and in need of updating, it's also away from the main field behind the office so you can't actually see the children when they're in it.
The site itself is in a great location, only a few minutes walk to Budle Bay - but beware that the road which you have to walk along parallel to the sea is very dangerous, we set off to walk with the children but turned back and got the car as we didn't fancy risking the blind bends with no footpaths.
There is loads to see and do in the surrounding area, Bamburgh is lovely and we had pizzas from the Olive Tree restaurant which were great (and can highly recommend the chips too!). We spent time on the beach and had a great time.
The campsite was quiet and the people really friendly, there was no problem with noise or anything (but mobile home owners note that used tap water needs to be emptied into a bucket and disposed of, there is no disposal point), it could be a fantastic site if the facilities were improved. We spoke to other campers there and they were all of the same opinion, and in fact a family with a caravan who checked in at the same time as us (and paid £129 so were obviously planning on staying a while) packed up and left early on Sunday morning. Sums it up really.
We won't be returning unless there is a total revamp of the toilet/shower facilities and the wardens start to look after them properly.

We visited this site for one night. The warden was very friendly but we had to find toilets & showers ourselves. It would have been better if he had told us where things were. Pitch was great, site was lovely, in a great location.
The toilets were clean but could do with an update. We were going to have a shower but didn't bother as they weren't very clean, had a good wash in the toilet block instead.
Maybe a small shop on site would be good. Just for milk, bread etc as it is a 2 mile trek into bambugh to the nearest shop. All in all though, a good site for one or two nights. Reasonable prices.

I really wanted to like this site as it's in a fantastic area and not far from home.
However, it just wasn't up to scratch. I don't mind 'basic' facilities but the toilets and showers were awful. Not just old, but dingy and dirty.
The grass where we were needed cutting, although where the tents were was fine and we had problems with the electric supply -it's only 6amps, so be careful. Generally the site seemed a little unloved!
It could be fantastic, but having paid £17.50 for the two of us, it didn't justify the cost.
We would perhaps stay again, as they do allow late Sunday departure, but only if we were to use our own facilities.

This is a tidy, spacious, well run site with good facilities. We camped in the tent field on the left after you pass reception, close to the toilet block and the friendly cafe, it was nice and flat and pitches close to the back of the field next to the hedge are well sheltered.
There was plenty of room between pitches, the toilet block was clean and there were plenty of free hot showers, so never had to queue. The cafe is great for getting a cup of tea in the morning.
The location is great - close to the A1 so easy to access and the northumberland coast path passes really close by so ideal for walkers.
Buses up and down the coast stop right outside the site so are a good option for going up or down the coast and then a good days walking down the coast path home. Recommended.
