This is a lovely site, set high up a hill off a very narrow country lane. The site has about 5 seasonal pitches for caravans, all the other pitches are for tents. The pitches are a good size and the site is well laid out with trees and hedges giving both shelter and some privacy. There is a fenced off wooded area for children to play in which my kids spent hours in every day. We were there in the school holiday, and certainly found the site to be very family friendly. It was full of families with children of all ages and it didn't take long for my 6 year old to make lots of new friends. The site is very pretty and we woke up every morning to a lovely dawn chorus. We were joined every morning for breakfast by some very friendly robins. A note of caution though, the site seems very popular with the local squirral population. Great fun to watch, but we had to chase a number of them out of a neighbours tent one afternoon. They had taken a great liking to some chocolate milk powder and the bread. You do need to be careful to keep all food in strong storage. The site is also very dark at night, this makes it lovely for star gazing, but a good torch is recommended. There were also long queues all the time for the dish washing sinks (only 2 for the whole site) so it would be quicker and easier to wash up in the tent. The surrounding area is great for walkers, with Symonds Yat Rock about 5 minutes in the car and Goodrich Castle just around the corner. Loads for the kids to do as well. We all loved this site and my children both declared it 'the best camping holiday ever'

Visited this site for 3 nights at the end of April. Arrived on a Thursday afternoon and pitched in a torrential downpour so was a little muddy, but we were very lucky with the weather for the remainder of the weekend. The site is beautiful and our pitch was a great size and quite private because of the hedge border. Loads of wildlife and we woke up to a full dawn chorus (very early) each morning! Even when the site filled up on the Friday and Saturday night it did not feel crowded and we still did not have to queue for showers etc. Owner was really friendly and helpful and gave us lots of information about the local area and walks. Would recommend walk to the Saracen's Head Pub via the bridge at Biblins Campsite, a lovely walk and a gorgeous pub with great food. On site shop very good with all the basics, including cold drinks and ice-creams which were very welcome when we returned from walking on a hot day (the site is set high up so every walk ends with an uphill climb back to the site!) We took advantage of the picnic table hire at this campsite, which was definitely worthwhile at £1.50 per day, you will need to book in advance though as they only seem to have about 4 tables to hire!

We stayed on this site twice in 2008. We found it to be quiet and peaceful & will be returnin5. No screaming or unsociable behaviour like other campers have mentioned.
We did not move our van off the site once we were there as we walked or cycled everywhere, with a fab route down to beautiful Monmouth. The forest around Symonds Yat is lovely for walking with the old railway line perfect for off road cycling.
It was really hot both times we were there so no idea about the site if it rains. Yes the facilities are basic, but they do the job.

Very pleasant site in a great location in a lovely area. Facilities are generally very good. Lots of hot water and no queues. Toilet block etc. Is looking a little tired though and shower cubicles especially could do with a revamp. Small shop is good but not open all the time. Not all gas cylinders are available as advertised, they had no Camping Gaz 907's refills when we were there. Site is very clean and generally quiet (more on this later). Dogs are allowed but must be strictly controlled and this was very much in evidence. No sign of any mess on site! We had a fantastic 8 mile walk from the site through the forest down to the Biblings on the River Wye. Loads of wildlife and nobody else. Then across the river on the small suspension bridge to the path along the 'Slaughter' to Symonds Yat. Symonds Yat is very pretty but also very busy. Walked up to the`viewpoint which is stunning. Then back down for some food. Ate at the Rose Cottage Tea Garden next door to the Saracens Head. View from the terrace is great but food was disappointing. £4 for a cream tea with whipped cream (No clotted). Baguettes were undercooked and looked like Tesco bake your own ones. Finally back across the river on the rope ferry and up through the forest to the campsite. My 11 year old slept soundly that night! But a good nights sleep was not possible on our first night. We were allocated a pitch next to a group with 2 tents, 2 females and 1 male and female. I new something was up when the slabs of strongbow appeared. Loud drunk voices with serious foul language well past 11 at night. Not sure whether campsite owners did anything about it but the group left the next day. After which it was very peaceful. On the way home we visited Goodrich castle which is about 15 mins drive away. Well worth a visit. Fine example of a medieval castle and you get a good audio commentary included in the admission.

We only stayed one night. Quiet friendly site, small shop, showers were hot and clean, as were the toilets, nice walk through the trees down to the river(wear good footwear), where there is a rope ferry to take you across the river. Will definitely visit again.

We stayed here for 9 nights as a family of 5 (kids 11,8,4) with tent and had to drag ourselves away - what a wonderful place and so close to so many things for the kids to do in the area. The kids loved the woodland area and were healthily muddy by the end of the day and there were walks all round the site down to symonds yat, the yat rock, caves, and just forest walks .Plenty of blackberries to pick!. Thank goodness for the "service wash" laundry (£4 or 5) dropped off stinking and returned clean dry and folded at the end of the day - made it feel more of a holiday! Lovely atmosphere - sitting out under the stars listening to the night birds- mostly tents and young families in August - most people didn't stay as long as we did but the kids made a lot of friends. Would highly recommend taking the kids, even 4 yr olds, canoeing (we had two boats as a raft) - fantastic much better than the cruises! - monmouth canoe centre was the only one who would take all 5 with one being a 4 year old. Very helpful. Cycling the family trail in the forest of dean, and the sculpture trail there too . Hired a tandem and trailer bike at pedalaway. Kids loved pony riding at cantref farm park in brecons an hour away too. Peregrines at Yat rock well worth seeing - we were lucky. Was a real outdoor/new experiences holiday for them - they loved the site and didn't want to leave! Couple of things - owners friendly and very helpful was worth picking their brains! and well stocked with information in reception, great little shop, had most things you need or forget and spar at garage at turning off a40 was our next port of call had everything! If you can take a ground sheet to put under your tent it would be worth while as the bottom of the tent got filthy with thick sticky mud. The owner has tried to put sand down which helps but the tent is the messiest of any site we've stayed at took ages to clean as we have an "sig." Last of all - don't use a sat nav to guide you there via post code .We nearly got stuck and burnt out our clutch on the tiny road and ended up in the wrong place anyway- take instructions!

Fantastic site, quiet, relaxing. We have been a few times now and always found it clean, and quiet, regardless how many units were on site, even in busy periods, they don't cram you in, each site is pretty big, and this prevents you feeling hemmed in. The childrens play area is a woodland, fenced off, and fantastic for children to play in and have adventures, build dens, swing on the tyre swing, get muddy! but have fun! my daughter loves it. The surrounding countryside / woodland really is spectacular, and very short walks bring you to king arthur's cave, passing loads of other caves on the way, seven sisters rocks are a pretty short walk too, and the view is spectacular, I think better than Yat rock. But even Yat rock is walkable. Biblins bridge is another nice walk, cross it and walk alongside the river. The whole forest is magical and well worth visiting, and Doward park sits right in the middle of it all.

This site is fantastic if you are looking for a peaceful break away, on a small, get away from it all site. It has all the facilities you require, albeit very basic. It has a shop on site (which is the reception also), but it only stocks milk, bacon, butter and sweets, ice creams etc. The only problem being, is the reception/shop isn't manned and you have to knock on the owners cabin if you want anything. Although we were there midweek, this may be different at a weekend/high season. But it did put you off having to disturb them, if you know what I mean. The pitches are level, huge, well sheltered and very well drained as we found out, after having the most terrential rain and thunder storm that the owner had ever seen ! As far as I could see, there were only 8 EHU for tents, which would mean booking early a must ! There are only 2 showers for the ladies, seperate from the toilets. They are clean, but are in definate need of an update, as are the toilets. Bluebell woods are great for older children, but i'm sure they would get bored after a couple of nights here, there really isn't much to keep the children occupied in the area. Lastly, one very important thing. DO NOT USE SAT NAV, follow the owners directions, the access road is very narrow and winding. A great site for a short break, we would return.

We went to Dower Park Camp Site for the weekend. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The lady at reception recommended the perfect site for us. The on site shop had basic items available. They have picnic benches for hire too.
The toilets were working properly. The washing up area was in good order with a freezer available to leave your ice packs to get cold. The shower was working. However, the shower head is not adjustable and you have to keep on pressing to turn on the tap as the water only runs for about 3 seconds at a time. So, if you do not want to wash your hair every time, then take a shower cap with you. There is a hairdryer in the ladies showers which costs 20 pence to use (I speak on correction regarding the price).
If you have kids, then they would love playing in the small fenced of piece of woodlands with a rope swing to hang from and space to run. This gives you a few minutes to really relax. In the morning you wake up to the sounds of lots of birds. There were also some squirrels running around.
We took a wonderful relaxing walk through the forest and took a 2 minute boat ride across the water where a pub was waiting for us. Our weekend was really enjoyable, considering that it rained most of it. Comes Recommended.

We stayed at Doward Park for 3 nights recently, and overall it was a lovely visit. The park itself is picturesque, clean, in a wonderful location, and the staff were really friendly & helpful. The site takes debit / credit card payments for deposits & booking over the phone which was really helpful for us. (I'm not good at sending cheques!) The site owners send a pack filled with info about the park once you've booked, also containing directions about the local area. Be sure to use the directions given by the park owners, as it's the best route! We listened to our SatNav & it took us up the horrible side of the hill, where the roads are much windier, and there are no passing points. The pitches were massive, really giving you your own space. As a young married couple with no children, pitching us next to the entrance to Bluebell Woods (childrens play area) probably wasn't a good idea. We would have certainly preferred to be elsewhere. Toilet blocks were clean, and up until the last day were fully stocked. Though on our final day all 3 ladies toilets were out of toilet roll & handwash for over 4 hours. As someone has already mentioned, the showers and drying area are very small. There isn't enough room in the drying section to bend down. I had to get dry in the communal area. There were also only 2 showers for use, and 3 toilets. The site was full towards the end of our visit & there was a small queue for the facilities a few times. Don't expect to live out of your vehicle, as cars have to be parked off the camping areas, and instead on the car park. Personally this was lovely, and gave the site a more communal feel. (Also didn't hear car doors opening & closing first thing in the morning!) Despite these minor problems, we will definitely be returning to Doward Park in the future, and have already told all of our friends about the place!
