This is beautiful campsite. We were blessed with exceptionally hot weather, when we visited, so we really appreciated the shade of a woodland setting. For once, I envied those who were tent camping, because the grassy camping areas looked so attractive, set amongst hedges and shrubs. Cars are made to park near the entrance, which stops ground being churned up in wet weather. Wish more sites did this!
The facilities were pleasant and efficient.
The children's play area is, by the way, not your usual swings/slides affair, and though a lot of fun for older children, is only for kids who can play unsupervised. Our four year old, however, did enjoy climbing along a frame of logs, but we were with him the whole time.
The location is perfect for walks, though be warned that the hillside is very steep, and quite muddy in places. We walked down to Symond's Yat with our son, and thoroughly enjoyed our trip across the river Wye by man ferry. You have to wait a while for the ferry man to see you, as he works at the Saracen's Head, and might be busy collecting glasses. The Routiers graded pub restaurant food was the best food we have eaten out anywhere this year ! It was a little pricey, but the portions were enormous, so you don't need to bother with a starter.
I would strongly recommend this site, as there is plenty to see and do around this area. River canoeing, castles, walks, caves, and gorgeous scenery.

This is a lovely site with fantastic little touches which make a big difference.
We were pitched in the middle section of the site, this had in total about 8 units around the edge with a large area for the kids to play games etc. The pitches in the area were very generous in size. At first I wasn't sure about leaving the car in the car park after pitching of the tent, but this was a great idea and the children could wonder to and from the 'Bluebell wood' freely without the worry of cars. 'Bluebell Wood' was great and the kids loved it, it is completely enclosed, safe and close enough for them to call if necessary (my youngest is 4!)
The site facilities were clean and well serviced and yes there were cobwebs but the toilets, sinks and showers were all clean. The owner of the site was very helpful and friendly with lots of local knowledge at hand. The picnic tables were great and at £1.50 per day good value. Also the site had decking boards (free) for use in wet weather for outside the tent - we used 2 of these and are even thinking of buying a couple for future use !
The site was very quiet and sheltered and I would recommend to anyone.

Lovely site, very child-friendly and only a couple of miles walk from Symonds Yat, across a rope bridge and along the riverside. There's a small nature reserve next door which was great for walking the dog.
A dozen or so pitches are arranged around the edge of a small field opposite the facilities leaving the middle free for children's games. Pitches with electric are arranged outside the main area, some alongside a small fenced-off 'bluebell wood' for children to play in.
The facilities were clean and showers free - only two each for men/women which wasn't quite enough but I only ever had to wait a short time. There were also only two washing-up sinks, so again queues formed, but never for long. I used the service wash and dry for only £6 which was great value for grubby children's clothes.
The surrounding area is gorgeous. There are wonderful picnic spots by Biblins rope bridge; Symonds Yat East offers a lovely tea room and a couple of pubs and you can also go on a river trip there either by boat or canoe.
Highly recommended for families as it is small and friendly with all the facilities you need, and lots to do nearby.

We spent a week here; the site is generally nice in a lovely woodland setting with plenty of birdlife to observe (owls hooting at night; green woodpeckers on the grass in the early morning). Given the pleasant setting we were slightly disappointed that there was an almost constant rumble of traffic from the A40.
We felt that in some cases the pitches were a bit close together. We were on an electric hookup pitch with a slight slope which was a bit muddy when we arrived and didn't improve during the stay even when the weather was better. Toilet / shower facilities OK although some more thorough cleaning would not go amiss (we spotted cobwebs on the cubicles in both ladies' and men's showers).

We visited Doward park for 5 nights in August 2009 and this is one of our favourite sites!
The site itself is fairly small and very secluded and quiet although at the same time the kids on the site were having a great time playing in the woods etc.
The toilet / shower facilities are again quite small but perfectly adequate for this size campsite. The on site shop was also pretty well stocked and the owners very friendly.
The allocated pitches were a good size. You have to park your car in the car park rather than next to your tent but we actually approved of this - it made the whole campsite look a lot neater (and les like a car park)!
The dog enjoyed lovely long walks directly from the site - caves, great views, woodland, Symonds Yat and of course down to the Saracens Head Pub!
Our only negative of the site was that the ground was very stony underneath the soil - easily solved next time with strong pegs!

Lovely, well laid-out site in a beautiful part of the countryside.
The owner lives on-site next to her shop and she seems to take great pride in her site, providing local information and keen to help you settle-in. Her shop stocks most of your necessary items.
Our pitch had a well-manicured concrete & pebble hardstanding 'designed for cars & caravans'(?) Obviously suitable for the campervan too but we had to pitch our awning half on pebbles - half on grass.
Washrooms, toilets etc. Were adequate, basic and clean but with only 2 of everything - this could cause congestion at busier times of the day.
Weather was terrible! It rained every day of our 4 day stay! So, to enjoy your stay bring your wellies or walking boots, as some parts of the walks in the woods were impassable. So, we couldn't consider a walk to the nearest pub, which was a shame!
It would have been good fun and good exercise if the weather had been better though!
Doward Park is a very nice site in a pleasant, quiet location. It obviously appeals to younger families, with it's Bluebell Wood and safe play area etc. However, playground shouting & squealing of 'the little ones' playing broke the serenity too often for our liking.

Had a great 12 night stay on Doward Park! Site is very complete although small (but therefore very cosy and most campers at the same time easily get to know each other)! Toilet block good and most of the time clean, showers at peak times not enough (two ladies and two men showers)! In the surroundings there a many many beautiful walks to be made, all with stunning and rewarding views! The walk to Goodrich Castle and to the top of the Symonds Yat Rock are walks to recommend everyone! Further more there a numerous interesting and nice things to do with the kids in the nearby area. For shopping we went to Ross with a nice big Morrisons. Overall a lovely campsite to recommend!

Stayed here two nights with 3 adults, one child and one dog for £12 a night in 2009.
Lovely peaceful site-well stocked shop and friendly owners.
The children's play area is a fenced off section of the woods which has dens and rope swing etc in it. A great place for kids to explore and enjoy freedom with you feeling safe in the knowledge that they cannot escape the site!
There are lovely forest walks from the site.
A lovely place and I'd love to go back when there were a few more kids there for my son to play with, maybe in the school hols!

We stayed for 3 nights and our comments are as follows:
Positives for us were:
Lovely setting, relatively flat, good facilities (didn't have to queue), owner always available, easy to find, not cramped pitches, very peaceful site. However, the owner's children were slightly loud during the early evening - loud music on and off, screaming and shouting (think they have a pool), and occasional announcements over a tannoy by the owner's son (telling his mother every evening to hurry up).
Negatives for us were:
Little bit regimented (we prefer to choose our own pitch), ground extremely hard in areas (couldn't get our pegs in far), rule about dogs to be kept on their lease wasn't enforced, got rudely awakened at 6.45am with a glass bottle collection (whole camp got up very early that morning).
Overall, we did enjoy the campsite, but for us the negatives slightly outweighed the positives, and for us, this isn't a campsite for us (as we don't have children).

This is a little gem of a site. Its small but very clean and welcoming. Set in the forest of dean with great walks into the wye valley.
The shower and toilet block is small but kept clean and tidy. There is a small shop on site and a spar just down the road. There is an enclosed section of the woods for the kids to play in, which my son loved and kept him occupied for hours with the other kids. The campsite was just great place to relax and unwind we loved it and will be going back.
