Have just returned from a lovely weekend at this picturesque, friendly, well maintained site. The site was everything we had had expected, having read the reviews. Our 3 children loved the Bluebell woods (even I tried the tyre swing!) and we all enjoyed the walk to King Arthur's caves. We will definitely return in the near future.

August 2005 After going camping all of my life this campsite is such a precious find! It was wonderful and definitely has something about it. With it being only small you seem to get to know everybody on it and the owners Alison and Steve were ever so friendly and helpful. We had pitch 8 with an electric hookup, I think they only have about 7 of these so need to book them well in advance. We could watch the children play on the tyre swing in the wood from our tent and also see them if they ventured to to the loo on their own as the place is so small. We stayed for a week and were very happy and will definitely go back with friends next year. The only downside was the showers. even after 1 week I could still not get it to maintain its temperature and the cubicle itself was too small if like me you were washing children and yourself. But I can put up with that as it is so lovely. Symonds Yeat East is walkable from the site and you can take the rope ferry over the river then walk back up the hill again. Canoeing was popular although our 2 children are too little it is something for the future.

June 2005 My wife Lou & myself, visited this campsite after having a week of hell on another campsite about 10 miles away. What a change. Alison & Steve were friendly & extremelly helpful right from the start. My wife is disabled, & although they do not have proper disabled facilities, she found the toilets & showers to be a lot better than some that are supposed to be disabled facilities. Alison & Steve Questioned us on how to improve the facilities for the disabled, which no other campsite owner has ever done. The site is in a lovely part of the country, kept very clean,& run by a lovely friendly couple. the shop is basic but stocks what is needed & at a very reasonable price. We enjoyed it that much, we have already booked 2 weeks next year, & hope to return there September this year. WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SITE TO ANYONE

June 2005 We loved this site. Lovely spot with well laid out pitches and our 2 boys aged 8 & 6 loved playing in the wood. Facilities very good with plenty of hot water. Lots to do in the area. We cycled along the river to Symmonds Yat East and also took the bikes into the Forest Of Dean to do the family cycle trail. A very pleasant time away, we plan to return next year.

May 2005 Just stayed at this site in between the May bank holidays. Site lovely, in sunny clearing at top of hill in woods. Walks from site are fantastic and owners have maps of how to get to the pub at night. Can recommend the Saracen's Head for food and although we always left before dark, they apparently run the rope ferry after last orders!
Facilities were always spotless as was the site. Always plenty of hot water for showers and washing up. Shop basic but very cheap. No horrendous mark ups!
Didn't find the owners as friendly as everyone else who has written a review of this site. We were two couples with no children and felt that they were keeping 'an eye on us' to ensure that we weren't rowdy. (We are the wrong side of 35 and certainly not rowdy). They were also very strict about the dogs on leads policy with us but we were frequently visited by two other dogs who seemed to be roaming free. Perhaps they were having an 'off' weekend. This did put us off a little as otherwise this is a very magical place.

March 2005 We went to this site the first day it opened this year - it was very well laid out, and very peaceful.
We were glad to have a narrow car to get there ;-) as some of the lanes were a little narrow.
The facilities were good and clean, but there were only 2 showers for each sex. Obviously this posed no problem as the site was so empty.
We would definitely go again, as the camp was easy to get to, and relaxing once we were there. The owners were most friendly.

July 2004 Very relaxed friendly place - clean facilities which were never crowded although we were there Sun-Thurs, large grassy plots. Interesting woodsy walks down to and along the river and wonderful castles nearby if you've got a car - Goodrich and Chepstow. Lots of families and family activities going on in the site until 10ish when things quieten down. We will be going back highly recommended.

June 2004 We've just returned from a visit to Doward Park and we are already planning a return visit! The campsite itself is set in a beautiful location and our 2 children aged 7 and 9 had constant freedom to play in the 'fenced off' Bluebell Wood. There are many walks to do in and around the area, we only had time for one! We did venture down to 'King Arthur's Caves' - remember to take a torch as the kids find this fascinating. The owners and their 2 children were most welcoming and helpful and the facilities were kept spotlessly clean. I have to say that the friendly atmosphere among campers on this small site was excellent, the children all played together and at one point half the campsite, adults and children, were involved in a game of cricket! What a wonderful break.

May 2004 We stayed here for 3 nights mid-week and virtually had the place to ourselves. The location is beautiful and well-cared for by the very friendly and helpful owners, Steve and Alison. Loos, showers, washing up room were all spotlessly clean although I agree that in the height of the season, the facilities must get very busy. Fantastic surrounding countryside and the campsite's location means lots of wildlife to spot. Will definitely return.

April 2004 Despite the rain we had a great time. This to be honest is probably due to the area rather than the site. The site shop didn't appear to be open, but it was early in the season. We had a nice size pitch, which aren't marked out but it was not level and sloped enough to make the kids, and me, fall off the airbed!. Next time I'll definately pick a flatter spot!! The site owners have a couple of nice kids who looked after our two and played well with them in the 'safe' Bluebell wood. The amenities were clean but didn't appear to be heated, though I may be wrong. I couldn't imagine being there in high season as there are 2 x showers for men and 2 x for women and a possible 40 pitches. Maybe this is enough. I liked the site and would return, but only in low season.
