We went to Doward Park for the first May Bank Holiday weekend. I think that some of the reviews on here kind of built up our expectations of the site a bit too high. The site itself is very nice, the facilities are adequate but perhaps we were expecting more!
The ground is full of pebbles so take extra tent pegs. The shop as already mentioned stocks a good range of basics. The kids loved the woods, the adults loved the walk down to the pubs the other side of the river in Symonds Yat. There is plenty to do in the local area.
Would we go back? Yes probably but we will give others a try before

Stayed here for 2 nights.
The site was lovely with nice spacious pitches. The woods were fantastic for the kids. Kept them occupied for ages! Lovely for walking and visiting the caves. Good facilities. Didn't have to queue for anything. Shop had few bits and pieces if you needed and there was a SPAR nearby with a good range of basic food/bbq essentials. Site very quiet. No traffic noise as previously reported and no rogue squirrels! Didn't see one! Lots of friendly robins though. Owner very friendly. Even leant me her needle when I had a metal splinter! We shall definitely return. I'm planning another trip here already!

Stayed here the first weekend in August with some friends and our children.
Arrived late, very helpful owner showed us to our pitch, she lived on site. She also openned the shop briefly in case we needed anything .
More regimented site than I usually stay on, it has maked pitches but they are nice big pitches and immaculately clean. Also very flat and not at all muddy.
Children disappeared into the wooded playarea, and were in there most of the trip!
Facilities were immaculately clean too, site was full and never had to queue for anything. Except maybe the washing up area one evening, but there was endless hot water and two sinks there too.
Walked down to the pub from the site, lovely pub, went over the river on the hand pulled ferry, which delighted the children. The valley is very pretty and it was an enjoyable walk, even got a map from the site shop to find our way to and from the pub.
Nice `family feel` to the site too, all the children played together and the noise was zero, apart from the odd child in the night, after 10pm.
There was so much to do in the area we wished we`d stayed longer and will hopefully return next year

We love this place! Great pitches with nice natural borders giving a degree of privacy. Small shop with a cheery welcome and essentials you may have forgotten. Clean showers and toilets and a couple of pot wash sinks.
A nice walk through the woods to Symonds Yat and a great pub. We cannot praise this site enough and have been several times already. 10 out of 10!

Just got back from this great little campsite -
Location was off the beaten track but good directions from the campsite made it easy to find.
There are 28 pitches, some with electric hookups set in a forest clearing, its very pretty with flowering tubs around the office / shop and toilet / shower area. The pitches are fairly level and well set out, not cramped up at all. The site is clean and very well presented although do not expect modern / stylish toilets and showers as you will be disappointed but what they are is clean, bright with plenty of hot water (we went on a busy weekend and never had to queue or have a cold shower). There is a wooded area just at the edge of the camp called bluebell woods where the children had great fun making their own little adventures and there was plenty of grass area in the centre of the site for them to play too(the mums and dads seemed to have great fun playing too)! The site is quiet during the afternoons as a lot of people head out sightseeing, it fills up again late afternoon when everyone returns for their evening meal and spending time just chatting and enjoying the peace of the site. The night times were fairly quiet with just the odd little one crying but nothing that stopped you getting a good nights sleep. All in all a great site, close to lots of local attractions, small enough to be friendly but not obtrusive. Definitely worth another visit and looking forward to going again.

The campsite is in a lovely setting and the pitches are a good size, although they are allocated. Toilet and washing up facilities are clean and are ample for the site. The ground was a bit waterlogged when we were there but in all fairness there had been a lot of rain in the previous week. It is a nice walk down the hill, over the bridge and along the river to the Saracens Head, which does lovely food. Tried the Ferryman's too but was not really impressed.
The site is in a good location to visit a number of places - Hay on wye, Ross on wye, Hereford and just over the border to Monmouth.
One negative - there did seem to be some heavy lorries passing somewhere nearby in the morning which were quite noisy.

This site was wonderful - our favorite site of all time, by far. The lady who owned the site was really friendly and very helpful. The site is just beautiful, with lots of squirrels and even a little rabbit who was out and about early each morning.
We stayed on pitch number 11 which seemed to get a lot of shade, which would be very welcome in the really hot weather. The only (minor) problem we had was the length of time it took to get our pegs in, due to the amount of stones under the ground of the pitch. We broke lots of our pegs but we'll be returning with some sturdier ones next time.
Other than that, there is nothing else bad to be said about the place. Bluebell woods kept the kids in our group (five of them aged from 2 to 8) amused for hours every day. The walk down to biblins, over the bridge (stopping at the pub at the bottom!) and back up again was really enjoyable and helped to work up our appetites. The kid all slept soundly that night!
We went on the river cruise which was lovely but a little overpriced I thought (£5.50 per adult and £3.00 per child). I wouldn't recommend the cream teas at the Rose Tea Gardens but their ice cream was gorgeous.
There are not enough good things I can say about this site! We all loved it. We had only booked for two nights but can't wait to go back for a longer stay. The weekend that we stayed the site was fully booked but we never felt crowded in. There was a lovely atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having a relaxing time.

We came hear with friends after coming previously on our own. The site is lovely, an upper part for about 4/5 tents on and a lower part which goes around in a circle. The wash area clean and tidy, there is bluebell wood right next to the site, where it is available for the children to play, make dens, also a rope swing. Good for all ages seen as though we had children ranging from 7 to 15. The walk was good down to the river with a very welcoming pub at the bottom. Nice to watch whats going on, on the river from above. Plenty of boats to hire. A real good base and we would come back again, as we already have done.

My husband and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at Doward Park camp site, It was a very peaceful site, with only a handful of tents and about 5 caravans, we were located in the corner pitch overlooking bluebell wood, which is part of the site, I know my 2 nephews would have loved this to play in.
The site is quite basic, 2 ladies showers and 2 mens showers, there is a hairdryer in the ladies shower room which was really useful, at a cost of 20p. There were 2 ladies toilets plus 1 disabled.
The showers were clean on arrival, although the showers weren't cleaned as often as they could have been, especially if you had one later in the day.
The site itself was lovely and clean, and it has a small site shop, which sells non perishable items.
We did have a problem with the squirrels whilst we were there, we did see the notice which was pinned up in the shop, stating not to leave bread, biscuits etc out, so we put our bread in one of the sleeping compartments and zipped it up for the day whilst we were out, unfortunately on our return the squirrels had bitten two quite large holes in our tent to get at the bread, just leaving the wrapper for us to discard!
So please be aware of this! otherwise we had a lovely stay and would return.

Spent a weekend in Folding Camper with EHU. Weather awful overnight, but that didn't spoil the trip. Loads of walks in the area, good base for canoeing or kayaking trips, or for trips to local towns. Site itself was lovely. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Small site and therefore only two showers each for men and women, but despite the fact that the site was full, there was never a queue. Basis showers, but clean and more than adequate. Toilets and washing up room always clean, as is the whole site. It is at the top of the hill, so be ready for some steep walks, but this makes it very secluded whilst surrounded by countryside. Playground for kids next to site in the wood. There are squirrels, so don't leave food too accessible when not there, but they never caused us any problems. Will be going back and recommended. JL
