The campsite was fairly easy to find as long as you follow their instructions not the sat nav!
On arrival which admittedly was 10 mins early, we went straight to the reception. We were told our pitches and the children were very excited that we were next to the park! The pitches were bare, we pitched on solid mud, no grass under tent at all, and they were uneven. Once pitched the remainder of the pitch was grass.
It was a small quaint site and the kids loved the freedom of going into bluebell woods which was securely fenced off, the play equipment was limited, a rope tyre swing and a few logs to climb over, but being a quiet weekend it wasn't too much of a problem.
The shower block was aged, there were 2 male, 2 female showers. The freezer was for ice blocks but full of peoples beer and the blocks didn't re-freeze over a day!
We liked the site and loved the area (as long as you avoid SY east) loads to do around, I feel the walk to the pub would be ambitious unless your used to hiking!

We've just spent 6 nights at this campsite. The weather was great for camping & this site seems quite sheltered. The area is absolutely beautiful, with some great walks straight from the site. The shower blocks could do with a bit of an update but are kept clean. There are a couple of pubs within walking distance. It took us about 20mins to get there as it was all downhill and obviously a bit longer to get back, but this allowed us to walk off our meal. One of the pubs is across the river, so a small fee of £1 each on the ferry will take you there. I would advise people not to go here at weekends if you want peace & quiet, as this brings families with noisy children. During the week is great but remember your earplugs for those snoring neighbours!

Nothing at all to complain about. The site is just a total dose of 'tranquillity'. It is almost like a little haven in the woods - if you are looking for peace and quiet, this site has it all.
The site is clean - everything is clean - toilets, showers. The Washing room is spotless. You get the use of a freezer to re-freeze your Cooler blocks. Bricks to use on your disposable BBQs - everything is there for you to use. Mobile phone, and lantern charging, - all provided.
If you are a keen walker - well this place is well located - many river walks, and you are close (ish) to the Brecon Beacons.
Whoever owns this site has pretty much thought about everything that a camper needs - and provided it.
I notice that some reviews have mentioned the 'rules'. They are what you would expect - no camp fires (on the grass); dogs to be kept on leads (and 'walked' off site') ; keep the noise down after 10pm, all just what you would expect - basically be aware of your fellow campers - and respect them.
We will be back there often - hopefully next week!

This peaceful little site is an absolute gem. Upon my arrival I was warmly greeted by the owner and given a general briefing of facilities etc. The layout of the camp is such that one might believe you were in forest clearing rather than a camping park. Plenty of trees and greenery which also affords a degree of privacy.
The pitch itself was spacious, level and well-maintained. The ablutions and wash area were always neat and clean and, as I had arrived on public transport with only my backpack, the little on-site shop provided ample supplies for my short stay.
Tucked away among the trees and lush greenery,it is the perfect base for an outdoor holiday. Whether I was sitting outside my tent reading a book, hiking through the lush forest or kayaking down the Wye, I found it a quiet, relaxing and most enjoyable experience.
Already booked to return in August! For those without a car, you can take a train to Glocester, bus to Ross-on-Wye, and then a bus to Whitchurch (ask the driver to drop you off at the doward / biblins turnoff. The road leading up to the campsite is fairly steep so if you're not keen on walking, you may want to call a local taxi

Peaceful, quiet, tranquil set deep in the heart of the beautiful countryside.
Site, small & very well looked after, the perfect place to chill & unwind.
Shower & toilet facilities small & basic but were perfectly adequate & kept very clean.
Plenty to do in the area, Monmouth 10mins away by car, scenic walks from camp site to Symonds Yat, although the walk back to camp site is challenging! Forest of Dean 15mins away by car, amazing walks through the forest or you can hire bicycles.
This camp site is 45mins from home & it felt like we were miles away. This is a fantastic site & one that we will return to time & time again.

As our first time camping as a group, we were very impressed by the campsite and surrounding area.
Having travelled to Whitchurch by public transport, we walked the rest of the way but didn't anticipate the hill leading to the campsite to be so steep and exhausting, especially with the weight of our rucksacks and the warm weather!
But it was worth it. On arrival we were shown to our pitch which was situated in a reasonably private location and had ample room for our two tents (a four man and a small two man).
The campsite and facilities were well looked after and always quiet. Showers were free, unlimited and always hot. Toilets/washing up facilities were clean although in need of a little updating.
Although we went outside of peak season, we could imagine that the site would be just as peaceful in busier times as it is small yet secluded and the site was divided by pleasant shrubbery.
There was a children's play area in the woods which was entertaining for a while but could do with some upgrading.
At night, the site was very quiet except for the odd child and snore of course! Robins could be seen during the day and bats by night - but no sign of the Batmobile!
All joking aside, there were several walks off from the campsite in different directions, though a personal favourite was to Symonds Yat - a lovely day out. Closer to the site, King Arthur's Caves were also within easy reach.
A bit of a warning - if you're not travelling by car you may struggle to find decent food supplies as the shop on site only offers the basics.
All in all, this is a wonderful site which we will definitely be returning to in the future and would highly recommend.

We came on the Wednesday after Easter and stayed until the following Monday. The weather was fantastic and we had a great time. There are lots of things to do on the area. We went to Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Symonds Yat Rock as well as doing a canoe trip from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yak, landing at Ye Old Ferry Inn. This Inn has just been taken over and the landlord is very friendly.
If you go out of the campsite and turn left down the rough track, you can walk to Seven Sisters Rock, a lovely viewpoint, King Arthurs Cave. The best walk or better still mountain bike ride is to Biblins Bridge, cross over and turn left and go on to Symonds Yat and the lovely Saracens Head pub with really nice food and great great staff and clientèle.
The campsite is very nice, toilets and showers were clean (I would like a mat or heated floor though as the floors were cold). Pitches are a good size and all the other campers were very friendly. They have seasonal pitches for about 4 or 5 caravans and they were all full.
The play area for our kids was a nice natural wood, which makes a nice change. I do not agree with the last reviewers comment about the children being unsupervised. They are your children, so supervise them yourselves. What do you expect for the money. I have been to bigger site like Sandy Balls in the New Forest and parents have to look after their own children. Overall a great site and my 8 year old son and I cannot wait to go again.

Stayed on this campsite Easter 2010 and the area it is situated in is beautiful.
Out and About
There is a fab walk to Biblins Rope Bridge along the Wye. Make sure you stop off at the Saracnes Head superb food if a little pricey but worth every penny. Catch the ferry across to walk back the opposite side of the valley. Maps available from campsite.
Ross on Wye - lovely town lots of places to eat and a big Morrisons
Monmouth - again lovely town lots of shops !
Shower & Toilets
Cleaned once a day not enough really in the early season when the grounds muddy. There are 2 showers and 3 toilets for 27 pitches also quite badly designed as the top shower floods used water into the lower one - not very nice. There is also a push button operation on the shower which needs pressing every 5 seconds, no drying area either so clothes get soaked.
Site
Children's play area just a tyre swing and some logs in the woods not really good for younger children as the older children take command of it and I didn't feel comfortable about leaving my 6 year old in a wood without supervision. Shop needs to sell more provisions only sells ice creams sweets and plastic toys really missing an opportunity to make a killing thought they could of at least sold papers !
Thought the provision of wooden duck boards was great as the site was so muddy, all in all for the money I thought it was basic but the site area was clean. It is in a nice area with an effective telephone booking system. We don't like commercialised sites but this was basic for the cost would be more in line at £12 - £15 per night even for bank holidays as there are so little facilities and the ones that are there are not effective.

Great site, we spent a week here this year with our 15 month old daughter in our VW camper. Nice size pitches, lovely setting in amongst woodland. Bit tricky to find and get to but once your there it's well worth it.
Definitely worth a walk down to the river and ferry trip to the Saracens Head pub - excellent food and lovely location.
Toilets/ showers perfectly acceptable - 2 showers each for men and women.
Owner was very friendly and helpful. Shop sells all the essentials.
We definitely want to return and I'm sure our daughter when she's older will love playing in the site's own fenced off wood!

This was our very first camping trip and were very pleased that we chose this campsite. It is set in lovely woodland area with trees all around. The owner, Alison, was very friendly and helpful. As we booked quite late in the year we were unable to have the bank holiday weekend, but when we arrived we asked if there was any chance we could stay longer. Fortunately there had been a cancellation and Alison was more than willing to let us stay longer. We stayed an extra night but had to get back to our dogs. (Dogs are welcome on the site and next time we will bring them. The only reason we didn't was due to the fact that we had planned lots of activities.)
The pitch sizes are large and not too near the other tents. We had a bench for an extra £1.50 per night and electric hookup. The toilets and showers were clean and presentable, as was the washing up area. It was busy but I never had to queue for any of the facilities. There is a freezer in the washroom for ice packs and this was great for our cool bag. Drinking water taps are dotted around the site making it easy to fill up water carriers and not too far to carry. BBQ's are permitted and the on site shop sells the disposable ones. The deck boards proved invaluble when it rained and these are free.
The bluebell woods is a fantastic place for the children to disappear into and make their own games and adventures. Both my 9 year old and 4 year old enjoyed this thouroughly and made lots of friends in the process( they did not argue once!). I felt very comfortable letting them explore arond the campsite as it felt perfectly safe and they were always within earshot. Most other campers are friendly and we made some friends too while we were there and we had toasted marshmallows with them on our last evening.
The area is surronded by beautiful mountains, the river wye and a whole heap of activities such as clearwell caves, puzzlewood and canoeing are all very close and within reasonable walking/driving distance, and set in the Forest of Dean. Symonds Yat rock was fantastic and we even saw Peregrin Falcons soaring over the Wye.
There is a shop on site where we bought a few essentials. Ross on Wye has a lovely Morrisons and the cafe there is excellent. We bought all our food from there too. Ross is a very picturesque town and it has some quaint little shops.
All in all we had an excellent holiday and wonderful stay at the campsite. Even though it rained for just over a day it did not bother us. We should have come a little more prepared with rain gear and waterproofs but that was our fault.
We are definitely going back next year for two weeks. I would recommend this campsite to anyone with children who want a relaxing place to stay with lots of activities to do in the local area.
