We have just returned from a lovely relaxing stay at Somers Wood Caravan Park. It is a wonderful site, set in a woodland setting. Listed as a Tranquil Touring Park.

It is very secure with keypad entry and exit. The toilet and showers are immaculate and hot water is available at all times. There are cubicles with space to get changed along with a hairdryer.

Less than a mile away is Meriden village which has everything you could need - a great fish and chip shop, Spar, Co-op, Greengrocers and Butchers, Pharmacy and Post Office. There are also a couple of pubs near by. There is also Berryfields Farm Shop a shop drive away too - a wonderful and friendly place to shop. Somers Wood is extremely handy for the NEC being less than 10 minutes drive away. Warwick is 20 minutes away and Stratford is 35 minutes away so lots to do and see. A great base for exploring Warwickshire! We went to the super Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull which houses all the

Major stores. And we highly recommend the Toby Carvery in Stonebridge Island- Great food and lovely staff.

A couple of points to note: The fresh and waste waster points - only one set had ramp access. The others require you to lift your barrels over a 2 course brick ledge which when full is more difficult than it should be. There is only one main bin on site by the entrance/exit - during our stay this was always very full and the lid would not close properly. Not very nice for those staying close to the bin area. Finally the keypad to exit was not accessible from the drivers side.

There is a lovely dog walk in the woods. There is also an information chalet which has everything you need to know about the area. Adjacent to the park is Stonebridge Golf Centre and Somers Coarse Fishery.

We would thoroughly recommend this 5 star touring caravan site and we will definitely be back. We had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The setting is perfect!

Somers Wood has been 'on our radar' for some time, but this week we finally got round to making a four night visit. On arrival the lady at reception said 'it won't be your last visit'. She was so right! This is a lovely quiet site situated in a woodland clearing about half a mile from Meriden village. It is very easy to access, being close to the A452 and A45 roads.

We had been a little concerned by one review which mentioned excessive road and aircraft noise, but in reality this was completely unfounded. The trees baffle any road noise, which in any case is over a mile away, whilst aircraft take off to the north from Elmdon, and are quite high if they pass over the site.

Facilities seemed to cope adequately with a nearly full site, and are amongst the best we have seen in many years. The only slight downside that I would say could be upgraded is the electric hook-up, which is only 10Amps - not the usual 16Amp supply. This would limit here to Spring and Summer visits for us, as having heating on, as well as kettle or cooker, lights, TV, fridge etc. Would be pushing the limits of the load.

Meriden village is very pleasant with a decent selection of small shops - including a Spar and a Co-op, as well as a Fish & Chip shop, and Tea Rooms. It also has buses to Birmingham, the NEC, Coventry and Solihull. There are also two Golf Courses - one next door to the site - and two pubs. Food at the Bulls Head is astronomically priced. There is a Toby Carvery at the Stonebridge roundabout - junction of the A452 & A45 - about a mile away, which is much better value.

All in all this Adult only site is a haven that we will certainly add to our list of sites to visit regularly.

 Just returned from this site.

It is a nice site with birds a plenty and a pleasant aspect. The showers and toilets are nice if a little cramped in the shower cubicle. Only two showers. I personally didn't have to wait at all but someone we were with had to join a queue of 3.

There is easy access from the main road and the village down the road has small supermarkets, a post office, butchers and greengrocer. As there is no shop on the site. We didn't but you could walk from the site.

We went as a group of 9 units. I think the site owners probably welcomed the cash but didn't really want a group as they asked us on more than one occasion to make sure we kept noise to a minimum. This proved a problem as keeping 17 people quiet is difficult.

They did however agree to us erecting a meeting tent for our coffee evenings. We did warn everyone to keep the noise down but although it was only laughter and talking some people are naturally loud. Therefore although they initially agreed to have a group it is not really the site for that sort of thing. We felt a bit on edge because of this.

The lady owner was quite friendly but I don't think her husband spoke to us once.

One thing that surprised us is the statement on the website:

'There is space for an awning on all pitches, either on hardstanding or GRASS'.

Two of our group put their awning on the grass and were told they shouldn't have. They volunteered to remove them but were told they could leave it but no one else must be allowed to do it. There is also mention of using an eco friendly groundsheet, why would that be necessary on shingle? This we all found confusing.

Despite these small issues we all had an excellent time in weather that Britain can only dream about.

It is a site for couples, but not for more than that I'd say.

This was our first commercial site we have used in the UK. The site is located in secluded woodland with some walks nearby. What should have been a lovely stay on this well appointed site became mediocre. Why, we experienced our first caravanners from hell. They subjected all neighbouring campers to very loud commercial radio followed by a DVD with all the uncut expletives and bloodcurdling screams, talked very loudly all the time. I'm deaf, and with both hearing aids turned off but left in the ears as plugs, I could still hear the music. Trouble is, nobody would complain just saying 'live and let live'.

On a positive note, the toilet and washroom facilities were absolutely superb being very clean and would be a credit to some big major hotels. The site is located close to the National Motorcycle museum, NEC, Stratford and numerous National Trust properties.

We would use the site again, but it would be good if the site warden would just randomly walk the site to see if there were any 'nuisance' users who could be asked to behave or leave the site.

Excellent in every way the staff were Friendly the Large Pitches have both grass and gravel. All areas were very Clean. The pitch fee were very reasonable all the facilities were excellent and they have the best showers ever. There is a fee for the WIFI which was disappointing and you have to pay per item so my wife could not download a book on her kindle and then use a computer you have to pay twice but the site is well recommended and we shall return.

We've all done it! Booked one night at a site for a base for further travels and discovered a little gem. Whilst we were literally on site for a little under 24 hours it was enough time to determine Somers Wood is a lovely site. Excellent facilities and a walk just off site that was great for dog exercising. Ideally located for all the Birmingham attractions and we didn't realise it was also close to some of our extended family. As Somers Wood was only 90 minutes from home and with the opportunity to visit family we will return.

Just stayed for a long weekend lovely site have booked to go for a week in summer. Toilets/showers very clean and warm during time when heating is on. Very convenient for NEC. Lovely owners and staff. Very good local pub/hotel serving excellent food and they allow dogs. Local Chinese takeaway deliver to your unit for a £4 delivery charge excellent. Golf course next door don't forget your clubs. Looking forward to exploring area in summer it will be nice to see the trees and shrubs in full bloom.

There was much to like about this site. The owners are friendly and it is convenient for the NEC Birmingham, Coventry, Warwick, Leamington Spa and Stratford. The 10 amp, hard standing pitches are well spaced apart.

The toilet block is probably the smartest we have ever encountered at a camp-site and there is no extra charge levied for showers or hot water.

There's a cracking fish and chip shop, 2 pubs and 2 convenience stores just down the road at Meridan. Further afield, we found Chinese and Indian food at Balsall Common, some 4 miles away.

Satellite reception can be difficult due to the surrounding trees, but connection points have been supplied to each pitch to overcome this (albeit at a cost).

Our only real gripe was with traffic noise, which may have been aggravated through the trees not being in leaf. The site sells itself as 'peaceful' and 'tranquil', but the fact of the matter is that it is located in a very busy corner of the UK. From around 5. 00AM the build-up of traffic on the surrounding A roads and motorways begins to become apparent. By 6. 00 AM this has materialized into something of a roar, at which point flights then commence leaving Birmingham airport every few minutes.

We would definitely use the site again if our aim was to visit the NEC or some such, but it wouldn't be our first choice if we were solely in search of peace and tranquillity.

My husband and I visited the site as we were exhibiting at the Spring Fair NEC. The site is fine. The showers are spotless, roomy and well equipped and the water hot.

However, the heating in the shower block did not come on until 7 30 am. So it was extremely cold when we needed to shower at 6 45 am. I informed Angela on the 5th day, when she refunded for the WiFi which did not work.

She said she would adjust the timer if she had time, to come on at 6 am. She had done this but it was not early enough to make any difference. Also the wardens were not available at the times we were back at the site.

They worked 10 am - 5 pm weekdays and we left at 8 30 am and returned at 6 45 pm. They were not prepared to see us about the wifi problem out of their contracted hours, so we had to wait for Angela who was available 3 days later.

We also had a problem with the electrics. We put the kettle on and it tripped the electrics. We rang the mobile for the wardens and Derek sorted it out quickly. It happened the next day too and we were advised not to have the kettle and heating on at the same time, as it is only 13 amp electricity supply.

This was quite inconvenient as it got very cold in the caravan as we had to make up flasks. This had spoilt our stay considerably. We feel if a site is going to open in the winter it should not stint on electricity.

 ** Site Owner Comments **

I would not normally make any comments at all on review websites. This is your forum and we are happy that you take time out to write a review about our park both positive and negative.

The only issue I feel that needs addressing is about the exit keypads. Up until a few months ago we had 2 keypads, one located by the gate that you have to get out of your vehicle to operate and one located a little further up from the gate that could be operated whilst still in your vehicle. The latter keypad has functioned beautifully for several years but unfortunately sustained damage on several occasions by some of our lovely guests, that just completely forgot when they were going home that they were towing out of the park with their caravan on the back! Despite our sign that reminded them to 'keep wide when towing'. You can picture the scene. To avoid any further repairs and caravans being opened like sardine tins, the last time it was damaged we completely removed it. We installed it initially to give our guests the pleasure of opening the gate whilst still in their vehicles during bad weather but unfortunately things have not worked out as we would have hoped! The security of our home and your park is paramount to us so the exit keypad located by the gate will remain. We look forward to welcoming you to Somers Wood. Have a good day and kind regards, Angela (Proprietor)
