Spent a lovely quiet Christmas break here on this adult only site. The ground area is well laid out with spacious hard standing and with all the facilities that you could want. The award winning toilet and shower block was a delight to behold - and was always kept sparkling clean morning, noon and night. The well appointed showers had lots of hooks for your clothes and detachable hoses - rather than fixed heads which is also very useful!
The site is next to a golf course on one side and a quarry on the other. You can take a pleasant walk (about an hour) down along the side of the quarry which brings you out onto the one way slip road for the A45 out of Meriden. There is a footpath along the road going against the traffic into Meriden (this is also a bus route) and you can return back to the site by completing a circular walk back down Hampton Lane. There is a cafe as well as shops and pubs/restaurants in Meriden itself.
The site is very well managed and serviced and it is quite a nature haven for birds. Some people were commenting on the noise of aircraft early in the morning as it is near the flight path into and out of Birmingham airport. However, we did not find this a significant problem.
Overall, would certainly recommend the site. After our first year with the motorhome and over 20 sites visited it would certainly be one of our top three! It is not inexpensive - but you have to pay for your pleasures!

An excellent site, this is not only the view of my wife and I, but also of my sister from Australia who is a caravanner that has covered most of Australia.
We met up here and left her hire car in the spacious parking available next to the caravan and took our car to visit relatives locally. The showers are up there with the best we have used and are spacious with a great glass door that leaves a roomy dry area for clothing. The facilities were immaculate and fittings were of a very high standard. There is a pitch size and shape to suit all outfits and the woodland setting is very pretty even in wet winter weather.
Drawbacks were few and could be easily sorted. The most serious is the difficulty of lifting a full water roller out of the filling station. Lifting 50kg over a kerb is not for the elderly or unfit. The same goes for lifting a full waste water hog into the waste drain. Paying the extra for a fully serviced pitch is the answer for those with restricted lifting capacity. I agree with the poster who mentioned the exit key pad position, in the wet it is horrid, if it could be moved to the right side or a location further in from the gate that would allow operation from the drivers seat, that would be excellent.
For those who want a newsagent, one stop and post office, good food and pubs, Meriden is very good. Balsall Common is also very close with a larger CO-OP supermarket. 5 miles down the road on the Birmingham Road Coventry is a major Morrisons, Curry`s and B&Q etc. This site is well placed for everything you could possibly want.

We have been coming to Somers wood for a number of years now but always during the summer months.
We decided to have a weeks holiday in December.
It was a lovely break, the Christmas lights looked wonderful around the reception area.
It is truly a great site, the showers/toilet block are spotless, a credit to the owners Angela and Marc. The toilet block was nice and warm too the heating being on winter settings/extended hours.
It was a pleasure to watch the different species of birds on the feeding stations.
We will continue holidaying at Somers wood and will certainly return during the winter months.
A lovely safe and secure site due to the coded gate, and a central position for site seeing.
The village has all the necessary shops, and it is only minutes away from NEC, Coventry, Birmingham etc.
Somers wood is a well thought out site, well worth a visit.

This is a lovely site, well set out and presented, friendly staff and a warm welcome.
This is obviously not a typical holiday stop-off but more of a convenient stay over for access to the NEC and other such venues. There is an excellent fish and chip shop and a small Co-op in the village.
The toilets and showers are immaculate and far more than basic, although the showers can be a bit claustrophobic. The heating is a little limited. It is only on during the hours of 7-8am and 7-8pm. Shower outside of these hours and it is COLD and draughty at this time of year. For such a well organised site I was rather surprised to find that the washing up facilities were outside. Although under a large canopy it is very open and windy - not a very desirable activity any time - less so in the cooler weather, outside.
I'm all for a security barrier at the entrance but not when one has to get out of their vehicle in the rain and mud to reach the key pad to enter a code to get both in and out. Unfortunately we stayed during particularly bad weather and the paths were rather muddy and waterlogged around the site.

This site must surely rate as one of the nicest sites I have encountered in 13 years of touring sites in the uk.
The site manager and owner were exceptionally helpful from booking to leaving and the toilet block was superb, and I believe I am becoming an expert on toilet blocks.
The surrounding areas are very pleasant with a golf course next door and a very useful dog walking area.
I would like to keep this site to ourself but feel it fair to let others know of it's existence. If only to ensure the current owner/manager continue to provide excellent facilities for the future.
Thanks for a lovely stay

This was the second time we stayed at this site. Lovely site which was well laid out. Great access for meals etc. However if you visit national trust sites I would advise a hire car, as access bad for large motorhomes. Toilets were nice and clean, and staff very friendly, golf club for meals was great and good value and chip shop at meridian really nice.
One thing that did spoil the holiday was damage to the van caused by a stone, either from another motorhome parking up or grass cutting which had flicked up a stone damaging the van, I will never know. I would recommend a Tarmac roads to be installed around the site, would still go back even after this event,
Birmingham bike museum well worth a visit.

We found Somers Wood to be a very well laid out site which was kept perfectly clean at all times. The toilets are the best we have come across, in particular the disabled wet room.
It is very quiet and peaceful - yes you can hear some motorway traffic but not too much - and we find this a lovely place to just 'chill out'
As we live in Ireland and we travel from Holyhead to East Anglia once or twice a year we find the trip very tiring particularly now we are older so enjoy breaking the journey up by stopping at what for us is a 'halfway house'.

Definitely one of our favourite sites and we've been caravanning for six years all seasons! Easy access from motorways yet so very peaceful, enabling quiet relaxation while listening to a wide variety of beautiful birdsong.
We have a twin axle caravan plus 4x4. The standard pitches were more than adequate to accommodate us with additional grass at the side to separate us from the next pitch. With the caravan taken to the very back of the pitch we had room to park the car safely in front of the caravan.
The owners and staff offered us a warm welcome and clearly work hard to keep both the facilities and the park itself in immaculate condition.
There are so many interesting places to visit in the area and with buses to take us to Birmingham or Coventry plus a rail link on the bus route, we could probably manage without using the car at all another time.
Somers Wood most certainly deserves its 5-star status and we look forward to returning to this lovely spot as soon as commitments allow!

The site is well situated for Birmingham, NEC and Stratford and has a lovely walk from site into the small village. The site itself is well laid out but the pitches, especially the non- serviced were on the small side with not a lot of room for a car if you use an awning.
The facilities were clean with excellent showers and ample hot water, we stayed at Easter so site was full which meant a bit of queueing due to only 2 of each showers. There was a bit of road noise from the busy road adjacent to site but this is now just being picky. Overall a nice site.

A twitchers paradise!
We booked this site for 2 nights whilst visiting Crufts.
The site is in an excellent location just a few minutes away on main roads to the NEC.
The site is beautiful, with well laid out, well looked after, level hard standing good sized pitches.
There was a man installing sky cabling to each hook up bollard, yet we found our freeview pictures good (except BBC, this may be due to the high trees blocking signal).
There is a very informative information hut, with files on where to find all the supermarkets etc etc and a good selection of books to read.
The shower/toilet block is warm and spotlessly clean and the showers are free, hot, powerful and not timed and a hairdryer is installed for free use too.
The dog walk area is great for exercising dogs.
The gated entry is key coded going out (automatic coming in), its easier to get out the car to input your code, as the keypad is low and tight into the side (would be better if on a swan neck at window level). And the occasional sound of aeroplanes (wind direction dependant), was the only thing to spoil the noise of the birds singing!
That said, this site is fabulous and will set the benchmark for all other sites for us from now on. We could easily spend a week or so here. Superb!
