Good Facilities but bike owners beware
The toilet block facilities are amongst the best we have seen in 5 years of camping in the UK and Europe, and the staff on the site are friendly and welcoming. We explored nearly all of the walks from the site and enjoyed the woodland setting.
However.
The queue upon arrival was quite lengthy, and as there was no distinction between caravans, which needed help setting up, and tents, which could have been sent to their pitch using a simple map, we waited over an hour just to be shown where our pitch was.
The pitch itself was supposed to be a luxury pitch, and at over £30 per night it certainly cost enough. What we got was a very uneven pitch, surrounded by mud ruts that looked like it had been dug up by a tractor, with a lot of ground water, and this is after a dry spell.
The roads on the site are all unmade, so when it does rain you can quickly find yourself walking through a quagmire to get to the facilities or drive off site.
Then on Saturday night two of our mountain bikes were stolen from outside our tent, even though they were locked together for security. We duly called the police, and despite the protestation from the staff that this was an isolated incident, we found out that another two bikes had been stolen at the same time. Thankfully, North Yorkshire Police recovered them from the thieves' hide and we should be reunited with them soon.
All in all we enjoyed our weekend, but the organisation and management of the site need improving if it is to reach its potential, with some security measures and investment in the actual pitches needed.

Myself, husband and 2 kids (5 & 7) just returned from our Easter weekend break at Spiers house. We stayed on a select tent pitch with ehu and picnic table The showers (hot), toilets etc. all very clean. Staff very nice especially Steve and his wife Sue. We went on the forest survival with Steve, the kids loved it The walks were very nice, we will be going back as we had such a great time. This site has a real safe feeling about it

Just come back from Easter holiday.Great staff,washing/toilet facilities and location. The minus points, three electrical cut-outs in our 4 days there. Site shop very expensive (you are in the middle of a forest and they know it!,Becks £2.50 a bottle). The uneven camping field does not have a close water supply or refuse/ chemical waste disposal and pitch size is fairly small.
Overall not a bad site but I have stayed on plenty better of the same pitch fee.0.

This is a great place, right in the middle of the North Yorks Moor forest; an ideal spot if you enjoy going walking - they have trails from 1 to 16 miles.
The reception/camp shop is really well stocked, the toilet/shower facilities are great (& warm!); everything spotless and nicely laid out.
We're new to camping and this was only our 2nd trip (just 2 adults this time, but usually 2 kids under 8 and 1 active boxer dog!)and we weren't disappointed. The site has many activities for the children, many of which are based around the forests. Such as bike tracks, mini-ranger expeditions, a night-time bat walk, a woodland play-area.
There's a bus to the local towns (Pickering, Levisham, Rosedale), which stops at the site.
We were on a standard tent pitch, which are basically plain fields; but they do have the more defined EHU pitches and even some with picnic tables etc.
Overall a great place and we plan to go back asap.Complete with kids & dog this time!

Love this site, staff very friendly, toilets and showers ultra clean and plenty of them, so cannot fault the facilities.
Surrounding area forest, forest and more forest. Streams to play in or just sit and relax by, lots of wildlife lots of space and fresh air.
All new hardstanding pitches most fully serviced lots of room ,take your bike and walking boots and enjoy.

Had a lovely weekend even though it was snowing just made it more picturesque. Had nice bike rides through the forest.
Facilities excellent, warm and very clean. Plenty of showers and separate wash rooms.
Washing up facilities clean and plenty of hot water.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Steve who pulled us out the snow with his tractor.
Will definitely be returning in the New Year.

Cant fault this place.
We were only tent on the site, I believe they have 'premium' tent pitches with EHU and picnic table not too sure where these are, but suspect they are amongst the caravans, did see a fenced off area possibly recently resurfaced that I suspect could be for tents, but we were in the big field with no EHU.
Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, Sue & Steve brilliant people, even lent us a gas heater as it was so cold and we were the only fools under canvas.
Facilities great, gents had about 8 showers, several sinks, and the usual other necessities.
Ladies apparently only had 4 showers, sinks, but more toilet space.

My husband and I had a great weekend at Spiers, the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble and we were even recognised from a previous visit to the nearby cabins which was a nice personal touch.
Facilities really good, nice and clean and spacious. The shower / toilet block was also nice and warm which at this time of the year (Sept) just as the weather was turning a bit chilly, really makes a difference.
Had some lovely walks and cycling in the forest, our dog absolutely loves it. Perfect for a quiet 'back to nature' weekend. Nearby Pickering was World War 2 weekend which was fantastic!. Everyone was dressed up in 1950's outfit, the town really had 'gone to town' to make it authentic. That was the icing on the cake really for our weekend.
All in all a great weekend. We are going back soon.

Visited here for our first ever caravan holiday and have to say that it was the best introduction one could hope for. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful - they put our caravan on the pitch for us (cheating, I know). We had a premium plus pitch which had water, electric, TV and waste water drainage. We found the toilet block and washing-up facilities to be spotless. The kids enjoyed the walks and cycling in the nearby forest as did the dogs (obviously not cycling). We stayed for a weekend and as such did not have chance to venture far, though we did manage to experience the 'War Weekend' in nearby Pickering which was fun. I recommend the New Inn in Cropton village for Sunday lunch - not cheap, but the best I've had. I would definitely recommend this site for caravans.

We too had a fab weekend at Spiers House in August. We had recieved a phone call from Forest Holidays a few days before to say the site was water logged and that they recommended that we didn't go !
Never one to do as we are told, we went with wellies and yes, the site was wet but it was fine for a weekend. We found a nice spot in the top field.
It is such a lovely site.Peaceful at night, and fab for the kids to explore.
Clean showers and toilets.
The nearest pub was approx 1 1/2 miles away but has a really nice beer garden and a good local brew.
Hopefully will visit again, next year
