Having visited Spiers twice before in our tent, we were very pleasantly surprised to return to what is very nearly a new site.
Whereas before there were boggy pitches there were now well drained pitches, new access roads have been added and hardstandings are now available for vans or tourers.
Electric hookups are now available all over the top field and the site benefits from the light units that are part of these. A wash down area for bikes is a useful addition also. The shop now sells freshly cooked pastries and pizza and there are even bikes available to hire.

We went with 6 other families so were quite a large party, although they accommodated us all well. The site is great although ensure you take your mozzie spray! Great walks in the woods & a short walk to the wooden cabins ensured we could watch the England game.
Dont forget your mozzie sprays as the site location is full of them.
We had a great time though & will visit it again, armed with gallons of mozzie spray.

Really enjoyed this site for the simple reason that there are easy to follow way marked trails right from your pitch (almost!). The dense forest surrounds the site, which is an a large clearing and obviously provides a nice backdrop.
The site itself is fine, its not the manicured, 'folded corners' you often see, but that works well with the forestry image - its a 'real' working environment after all. The toilets/showers seemed plentiful and the water hot. The shop is well stocked and there is also a pizza take-away service - although we didn't use it, so can't comment on quality.
A lot of the land is sloping, but some pitches are still pretty level and there are quite a few hard standings. The caravans and tents seem much better separated now than when we last visited years ago.
If I had to nit pick, I'd say this is a pretty expensive site - cost of £24/n for electric hook up, motorhome, 2 adults. Its also in the middle of nowhere - so don't forget essentials!
But then Spiers House does offer something pretty unique, a real forest experience and there are scheduled guided walks and even nighttime activities involving infra red style goggles, which you can hire.
A memorable visit - will be back. ;-)

We visited this site for the last May bank holiday weekend for 2 nights.
First impressions were that it is in a beautiful location, the staff were welcoming and the facilities were clean (which I think is very important!)
We were told we could pitch our tent anywhere in the tent field which is actually on a slight slope, it wasn't too much of a problem but my hubby and I did find ourselves sliding towards the bottom of the air bed a couple of times during the night.
Considering the site was busy (due to the bank holiday) it quietened down really quickly at night, which was great as we had our 2 year old with us.
We did a forest walk the first evening and visited the children's play area. There wasn't much at the play area at all but my son loved the swing!
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and it would of been much better if the weather had been kinder! We'd like to visit the site again when our son is a bit older so we can explore the surrounding forest a bit more.

Had a really good weekend. Reception staff very friendly, showed us around the site and asked what we wanted from out pitch - close to the toilets, secluded etc.
We settled on a pitch close to the facilities, but secluded by a couple of small patches of trees. Grass was a little long when we arrived on Friday, but was cut on Saturday. Whole site was lovely and clean, no rubbish about, showers and toilets very clean.
Had a walk right around the site each evening before bed - seemed to be a good mix of people about, couples, families, retired etc. A fair few tents on the EHU pitches as well as on the tent field.
The weather absolutely made the weekend, but wouldn't hesitate to go here again. Don't think you'll get better for the price (£20 per night inc. EHU)

Lovely setting, rangers / wardens really nice. I agree with lots that the other reviews said however we must have arrived at a bad time, as the site was a bit of a mess! Grass needed mowing really long, toilets were dirty, bins were all overflowing bottles and bags just left lying around. The whole weekend was like this no one seemed to be bothering with any kind of clean up. The site was not full there were still a few pitches available.

Me and my family stayed here for Easter weekend
The site seemed really clean and a great location but when we arrived I was informed there had been a power cut to the whole site so no hot showers, no hook up, no lights in toilets and was advised power should be restored within 1 hour, fact was after talking to other campers power was coming and going for between 2-7 hours. We stayed 3 nights and had power for roughly 8 hours and the problem had been happening for over a week previous, I was told the supply couldn't handle the newly built lodges, caravan and camping demands and was going to be upgraded soon, apart from that problem the site seemed ok, I'm sure some more reviews will support my gripe

Just returned from a fab two night stay at this site in Cropton Forest. The weather was freezing and there was a good few inches of snow on the ground, which made it really good fun. We got upgraded to a pitch that was larger than the one we had booked, and came with a picnic table due to the amount of snow making it tricky to get on to pitches located lower down.
The staff are very helpful and accommodating, the shop looked well stocked although we didn't need to buy anything, and you can hire night vision goggles! We had some great walks in the forest and some good sledging as well. There is plenty of wildlife and you can buy bird seed at the reception. There is only one toilet/shower block and I imagine it might get a bit busy in the holidays but for the time we were there, can only praise it and recommend it highly.

Stayed here 12th to 14th February & again 19th to 21st February because we'd had such a great time. What a brilliant site, toilet block immaculate and heated. Great play area for the children (young and old!) Surrounded by the forest, with lots of great walks. We walked through the forest to the New Inn pub at Cropton, served great food and the beer was nice too!
Small shop on site selling your basics, wardens very friendly and helpful. You can also hire bikes on site too. All in all had 2 fantastic weekends away, cant wait to go back!

Have just spent 2 great nights at Spiers House and have booked again for next week. A great site and toilets spotless. Fantastic walks and good beeer in New Inn. Rosedale Abbey is a lovely place. Dont live far away so can spend time localy. Found the staff when booking very friendly and a great welcome from the wardens on arrival showed us to our pitch giving us a choice of 2 hard standings or grass area. Shop well stocked with maps and and camping gear and basic food. Tried the local brews at the pub a nice walk away. Did a couple of walks one in the forest and one at Rosedale Abbey taken from a book bought at the site shop.
