April 2004 Excellant Stay over Bank Holiday weekend in Caravan. This site has just been taken over by Forest holidays. There are many walks straight from the camp site into the woodland. Electric Hookups are a bit cramped together. Office hours are open between 9am - 11am and 4pm till 8pm. the site has a security barrier which is opened at 8am and closed at 10pm. There is a late arrivals park and also you can pitch until 10pm.

June 2003 Beautiful forest location, lovely marked trails, amazing wildlife (we spotted deer amongst others, and rabbits played around the tents). Great facilities (shower and toliet blocks spotless) though better guidance on arrival would have helped. As already been stated - BEWARE the biting mad insects at night. They hurt. Best to eat well before sundown, then get inside quick.

Aug 2002 We've used this site a few times over the last couple of years, when we took our tent there. We agree with everything written, it is a great site, but beware of the nats, the slight slope on the tent field, and if it rains, the site turns into a mud bath!

18 August 2002 Beautiful location within Cropton Forest.Good, clean facilities, shop, kids play area, dog walking area.Good walks and mountain bike tracks.Nice and quiet with a mix of tourers and tents. My only criticism is that the team need to give clearer instructions on arrival re pitching as many tents straddled pitches and quite a few had to take down and move - no fun.Good family site and ideally situated for exploring N.Yorkshire.

June 2002 We visited Spiers House for 7 nights during Jubilee week (the longest 2 adults 2children and a mad dog have ever been for!). It is situated in the heart of North Riding Forest which we found very peaceful& pretty. The campsite has a well stocked (and lisenced!)little shop, a childrens play area, and a seperate dog walking area. The toilets and showers were very well maintained (always spotless). The site is owned and run by the forestry Commission. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to help us out when our dog urgently needed a vet. There are marked walks and trails starting from the campsite which we found enjoyable. We would definately recommend the site to anyone who wants to get away from it all (but makesure you take plenty of insect repellant as nats and mosqitoes are abundent!!) It seemed to be a very popular site where people returned time after time. If you fancy a visit you have to book in advance through 'Forest Holidays'. We look forward to our next visit!
