I've been to this site several times over the years and it is a beautiful location. Lots of birds, usually peace and quiet (no traffic noise at all) and, if you get a clear night, lots of stars too. Great for walking or cycling, the facilities are clean and the wardens friendly. My recent visit (after a gap of two years) did give rise to two criticisms, however. There was no late night tour of the campsite by a warden, which meant a nearby group of schoolboys (with teachers!) were very loud until after 11pm and the temporary peace was then shattered by a noisy drunken discussion from elsewhere on the campsite into the early hours. Secondly, it is now more of a caravan site. There are two fields for camping, but there are also many more for caravans.

Absolutely brilliant. Lovely location with super walks. Facilities could not be faulted - very clean. We only live in Scarborough and this was our first time camping, so it was a total success. Will certainly go back. Everybody was very helpful and it was great.

This was our first ever trip out. Very nice and friendly site. Our pitch was a little soggy but dried out rapidly. Nice walking and site is quiet in the evening despite it being Easter. Clean shower block. Adequate supplies at the shop. Children's play area was also very nice. My only criticism was the lack of advice for pitching up, it was a bit of a free for all and I was unsure where to pull up. This is probably normal but I found it a little weird with vans facing in all directions.

Had an excellent time over the easter period, very well planed out walks. The site was a little uneven but not to bad. Very peaceful site with lots of different wildlife visiting. Excellent for dogs due to the forest, however, it did lack in having no dog bins. Will definitely be visiting again.

Just been for the Easter weekend and found it an excellent site, plenty of walks and plenty for the kids to do, there seemed to be quite a lot of kids on the site but it was still very peaceful. The only fault we found there was no bins for dog dirt. Booked up for next bank holiday.

Beautiful location, very clean facilities, Good walks etc. Nice and quiet with a mix of tents and caravans. The only problem we had was the staff didn't leave clear information on where to pitch your tent on arrival. (because the office was closed) We pitch our tent in a nice spot, but when we went to pay we didn't get a happy smile welcome. (the staff need to cheer up and smile) this was out first every camping trip. also the ground isn't that level, but over all we had a good time.

This is a lovely site in the middle of the forest. It is lovely and clean, the toilets and showers are very good, nice children's play area and there are different colour coded walks. Our only real criticism is that although the shop is well stocked, it only opened for a short time in the morning and the evening, and we could do to have it open all day really. Yes, the mosquitoes do bite at night and it is for that reason alone that we will not be going again as my partner got so bitten. If you can stand the bugs, it is well worth a visit.

We stayed here for 10 days and would def recommend. It is in the middle of a huge forest with bike trails and walks. It is a small site so not busy and with a great play area for children. The toilets and showers were very clean and the shop actually stopped things you could cook a meal with plus the usual basics. The staff were more than helpful and we thought it was a great plus that the barrier was down at 11pm so noone could come back late, if you do you have to walk from the barrier, so very much geared to families. Theres lots in the area to do Whitby isnt far away, the North Yorks railway, various museums, and York snt too far either.

This isnt a bad campsite but has the following downers; a. Its elevated position makes it very cold at night slightly off season. b. Its mossie hell! they are very voracious and numerous after dusk. c. Its a bit strict. d. Its a bit boring for kids unless they like woods.

July 2005 We stayed here for a weekend with friends who had been before, it was our first camping trip. The facilities are great, showers and loos very clean and washing up facilities good. The staff were helpful, one pointing out that they had a baby bath in the launderette as I was trying to wash a baby on a bench in the ladies! Our 4 year old loved the playground and the site is beautiful. It was a peaceful place. Only thing as others mentioned, are the midges. Cover up at night and take repellent, if we go again we will also take citronella candles.
