Just spent a week at Hillhead and cant find any faults with it at all. The shower / toilet block was immaculate, the club is one of the best we have ever seen-clean, friendly and good food. The wardens were really helpful, advising us which were good pitches for a sea view, and the pitch size was very impressive. The only criticism is not really of the site but local public transport. We caught a bus directly outside the site down to the village to get the ferry to Dartmouth and three return adult fares on the bus cost us £7.80p-it would have been cheaper to drive and pay for parking! Having said that we are already planning to return to Hillhead in the summer.

Just had a great 6 night stay here. Good mix of hardstanding and grass pitches. Roads around the site are quite narrow which can make siteing your caravan difficult depending which pitch you choose. We had a large grass pitch with fabulous sea views.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great dog walk with lovely sea views. The children made full use of the play area and there is a huge recreation field next to the play area for ball games. Toilet blocks pristine. On site shop was too expensive for me.
Staff organised an Easter Treasure Hunt for the kids which was great fun

The sites facilities are very good. The weather was too bad for us to try the swimming pool -but it looked nice. The pitches vary in size and quality (though they have improved since our last visit and you could choose your pitch this time) – we still needed help on and off partly caused by steep slopes and cars parked at end of pitches. The Wardens were brilliant and very helpful and have a brilliant tractor to help you on and off. I don't think its for us, we enjoyed some of the entertainment the Elvis impersonator was great fun and the Blues Brothers was fantastic unfortunately the other acts were spoilt by backing tracks and poor quality sound tests! It's expensive compared to many of the other club sites and for us is not worth the extra. Yes there is entertainment but they are selling meals and drinks too so it should be self-funding, and the kids spend a lot on the games room!

I love this site. We spent 3 weeks on it last summer and are going back for almost 2 weeks this year.
The wardens are so friendly and helpful and always polite. Nothing is to much trouble for them.
Some pitches are tight but they have a tractor to put you on and off. We had to use this system because we would never have got onto the pitch. We struggled for about half an hour before realizing they would tractor it on. This year we will unhitch at reception and let them put it on for us again.
The pool is gorgeous and the paddling pool is great with squirty things as well. There's lots of loungers as well. The take away is a little expensive but good food. There's a nice size arcade and the club house is very clean and a nice size. There also an outdoor patio area where you can take your dog. They also have patio heaters.
There also a good play area for the kids. When picking your pitch just bear in mind it can get a little noisy till late up at the play area.
It you used the dog walk field beware some people don't pick the dog poo up. Some people get there kids to walk the dog in there and they don't pick it up. Some people let there dogs off the lead in there and they don't have good recall.
I would recommend this site and whilst your down there you must visit, Brixham, Blackpool Sands, Torquay, Paignton and don't forget the most beautiful place I have ever been either Dartmouth its stunning.

We booked to stay at Hillhead due to its location and public transport links which were both excellent.
On arrival we found the wardens the most friendly and helpful we have ever met on Caravan Club sites. They were always smiling and cheerful despite the difficulties the awful weather had been causing them! They work extremely hard keeping the site in tip top condition.
The site has undergone a transformation and the facilities are all very good and extremely well maintained.
The toilet blocks are of a very high standard and well designed with ample hot showers so no queues even during August Bank Holiday week.
The laundry was also very good with plenty of machines that were very efficient and very reasonably priced as you could choose long or short washes or rinse and spin options.
The swimming pool area, games room, restaurant and bar were all of a very high standard with pleasant and helpful staff. We had lunch at the bar one afternoon which was very good value and very tasty. When we return at New Year we will not be cooking ourselves!
The on site shop is very well stocked with everything you could need.
We only have one small gripe and it is aimed directly at the Caravan Club itself not the site staff and that is that the difference between the good pitches and the not so good is too great. You could end up with a magnificent hard standing or a small muddy pitch with limited access and views for the same price. We would hope that this will be addressed in the future as the site continues to develop.

Yes, this is an absolute gem. The toilet blocks are without question the best I've ever come across and the whole place is run very, very efficiently.
My only complaint is that the swimming pool is freezing. If the swimming pool had been warmer we'd have enjoyed our stay even more but given the huge range of nearby activities and the overall quality of the site this won't stop us from visiting again.

Just to re-iterate all the preceding comments made. This site is superb, toilets and showers immaculate, swimming pool and changing facilites excellent, good shop and restaurant, bins always emptied, grass always cut, huge private pitches, good T.V. Reception, excellent dog walk. We were, however, stunned to see that some dog-owners didn't clean up their dog's mess, even though scoops and bins were provided, which is uncharacteristic of Caravan Club Members in our experience. Wardens and all staff extremely helpful and pleasant. The location of the site is second to none in that Brixham, Dartmouth, Paignton and Torquay are all within a short drive/bus ride. We bought a 'Megarider' bus ticket for £16 each for a week's travel and this enabled us to travel from outside the camp to anywhere within the designated route (all of Torbay and as far as Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Dawlish etc.) as often and as many times in a day as we wanted. Buses every half an hour. This saved all the hassle of finding a parking space and negotiating the narrow roads with a big motorhome. Totally stress-free travelling!
We can't wait to visit this site again, it has to be one of the best we have visited even by Caravan Club standards.

We had Hillhead Caravan Site pre-booked for months and was really looking forward to spending two weeks there – I’m glad to say we were not disappointed!
After the 250mile trip we arrived at the site and found the entry layout to be very clearly marked with two lanes for arrivals and one lane for site traffic, all with key code barriers. The reception was extremely helpful and we mentioned we would like to get a sea view. All the sea view spots were pointed out on the site map and the route around the site explained. As we drove around the site the sea view hits you in the face and although the site was pretty much full, we managed to get a brilliant grass pitch in a ‘cul-de-sac’ of three vans (pictures can be found on my flickr account).
The electric hook-ups have TV sockets and for £12.50 you can purchase a 25mtr TV coax cable from the site shop. Using the site hook-up with no caravan booster I managed to get 83 digital Freeview channels! Amazingly the omni-directional caravan roof antenna with 12v booster also picked up about 60 channels and my directional antenna on an A frame mast picked up 83 channels from a different transmitter across the bay. This meant the kids were sorted with CBEEBIES at 7am in the morning allowing us to lie in ;)
The toilet blocks and showers are absolutely the best I have seen anywhere. Everything has been re-furbished / re-built and there are plenty of facilities everywhere! The outdoor swimming pool is split into a kids shallow pool and a deep pool, it is obviously a big hit with the kids, but they also allow periods in the main pool for adults only. The onsite bar/clubhouse is also very new and perfectly finished with plenty of seating inside and out and a stage/dance floor for nightly entertainment. Friday night was theme night and I recommend the Indian selection with ‘as much as you can pile onto your plate’ for a fixed fee of £8.75. The food price is fairly high, but you are paying for good quality – which is what I would prefer. A pint of Devon Cream is currently £2.60 (and it’s my fave)
The wardens are all very friendly and helpful and very good and efficient at their jobs - The site is immaculate and tidy and grass is constantly cut. The children’s play area has a massive wooden castle / fort with lots of climbing to be had. There is also a football pitch and dog walk with amazing sea views.
If there any negatives of the site would be that it is very popular (and so it should be) so it’s always full and the spaces can be tight – especially manoeuvring – which had to be done on the motor mover or by asking the friendly wardens to help with the tractor. Also the grass pitches can be subject to high winds (it is on the coast!) and in very bad weather our pitch flooded. However, it drained away quickly.
The area is fantastic, Steam train heaven! And great for photographers and boat lovers! Take the car ferry to Dartmouth for £3 per car or the foot ferry for £1 per person. We (4 adults and 3 children) hired a motorboat for £15 per hour and drove up the river – definitely a recommended activity! We didn’t manage to find a ‘pure sandy’ beach as we do in North Devon (Saunton, Croyde) but we found Blackpool Sands (should be called Blackpool pebbles) to be of outstanding beauty with a carpark right on the beach! With the clear sea and sun shining it looked like you could be in the med! The National Trust property - Coleton Fishacre is literally down the road from the campsite and has an amazing luxuriant garden by the sea, with an Arts & Crafts-style house.
We will definitely be going back.

Just returned from a 7 night stay. Can only echo the previous reviews to be honest. What a fantastic caravan site.!
Reception / arrivals is the usual high standard indicative of CC sites, proper marked lanes for arriving units etc. Wardens were simply excellent, really helpful & welcoming. Also full of info & local knowledge.
Pitches were large & mostly level, even on the steeper sections of the site. Most pitches had their own hook-up post with 16A electric & TV outlet. Water & waste points well located.
Spotlessly clean showers in a nice warm centrally heated building. Baby & toddler room with a special children's bath & even a little persons loo also.! Showers were hot, free & ultra powerful. Eighteen showers with accompanying private sinks in the block we used (there were two blocks).
The on-site bar & restaurant are excellent, very family orientated & the food was very good.
There is a small well-stocked Spar shop on site open from 8am - 6pm.
The children's play area is brilliant, with a huge timber fort, a play caravan & motorhome & also a football field. A dog walking area is also provided, & fenced off for safety.
There is also a tent field & I believe non CC members are welcome for a small surcharge.
All in all a fabulous site that we will certainly visit again.

This must be the best caravan club site we have ever visited. - Previous reviews say it all - toilets & showers spotless, bar & restautant brilliant - food tasty & reasonably priced. Cabaret every night - some good, some not so good, but there is no membership fee or entrance fee to pay to use the club, so for 'free' you cant really expect Elton John ! Swimming pool spotless and warm - plenty of sun loungers (dont know what it would be like in July / August though) spar shop on site has all essentials, and there is a little 'arcade' with some games and a pool table & air hockey table - we found all the staff and wardens friendly. This site is fantastic - I hope too many people dont read this review, as we want to go back next year, and hope its not fully booked !
