Our first visit to a CC site as new members in 2010, and not disappointed.
This site has a lovely set up with small areas sectioned and protected by natural hedges. Great play facilities, a good little shop and a great outdoor pool make for a fab family holiday at a very reasonable price.
TV Aerial points available at every pitch and cables available at reception. Plenty of water and waste points.
Loos and showers are very plentyful and extremely clean.
Evening entertainment, inc the obligatory Bingo games are good fun for all the family. The magic show at the weekend was particularly impressive.
Have booked to return this summer, can't wait!

Second summer running we have stayed here.
I have two young children ages 2 & 5, play area is good, recreation area for football, kites etc, dog walk area all good.
Majority of pitches are good some a bit tight to get in to and next to road, but nothing that will spoil holiday. Entertainment area bar, restaurant, shop, pool(could be warmer) all very good.
As with all CC sites stayed at the, toilet, showers, washing up and waste areas are 1st class.
The Wardens of which in August there appeared to about 8 of them, work continuously to keep this picturesque site in tip top order.
We will definitely return.

An excellent site. Well maintained with a team of wardens dedicated to delivering a first class holiday. Toilet blocks were always spotless, never had to queue even during peak season in the kids holidays.
This is a very busy site with lots of hidden nooks & crannies, from which kids spring out on their scooters and bikes! The driver be warned ! There are supermarkets within 5 miles & an abundance of places to explore.
The ferry ride over to Dartmouth is only a couple of mins away - the lower one being the quirkiest. In all a great place to spend your hols.

Hillhead lives up to its billing. We stayed for 4 nights and wished we'd had longer. For us the position is fantastic with great views, plus the coastal path is nearby and there is a bus-stop right outside the site with buses going to Dartmouth, Paignton, and Brixham.
The added bonus (unusual for the Caravan Club) is the restaurant, with good quality but reasonably-priced food, and the entertainment area. As ever with CC sites, the facilities are first-class. Lovely, clean shower blocks and good, spacious access to the motor-caravan waste points too.
From our point-of-view, as an 'almost-retired' couple, the site was ideal. It may be just a bit quiet and remote for families with older kids.

What a great campsite. The folk running the campsite were very friendly and welcoming. As we had no electrical hook up, they allowed us to freeze our freezer blocks each day. Very helpful.
Excellent facilities and very clean shower/toilet facilities. The pool was brilliant for the kids, and the whole feeling of the campsite was very child friendly.
Great views down to the beaches, which were only 10 minutes drive away.
We would recommend this site to anyone who is looking for a great time away.

This was our first time at Hillhead and we were more than impressed. On arrival we had the choice of quite a few pitches and found a large, hedged off, hardstanding with stunning sea views. The site have recently added more hardstanding pitches, most of which are large. There are lots of small sections (cul-de-sacs) many with just 3 or 4 pitches in so strangely the site feels quite small.
There are 2 big toilet/shower blocks each with plenty of good sized showers with drying areas, toilets and privacy cubicles, all spotlessly clean and up to the usual CC high standard. Outside each block is an indoor / undercover washing up area and recycling bins.
The on-site shop, open from 8:30am - 6:30pm each day, was fully stocked and not over expensive. There is also a bar/restaurant on site (Nicos)which is open all day and offers lunch specials and evening meals. Food was OK but pricey and not a great choice of real ale or cider. There is also an outdoor swimming pool. There's a small dog walk/enclosure on site too (just wish everyone would pick up and bin as we do).
From the site entrance you can catch a bus to either Brixham (not cheap for a 10 min ride - dogs are allowed on the buses but they charge 50p!) or Kingswear / Dartmouth. The bonus is that both buses run regularly (approx every 1/2 hour).
We enjoyed this site very much, BUT it wouldn't be our choice during the high season. The only gripe we have is that they seem to allow new arrivals to turn up from 9am, so consequently they sit opposite the pitch they want and wait for you to pack up and head off - a bit off putting when you're having your breakfast - and it's not a nice to feel that you are being 'forced off' before 12noon!

As Caravan Club members we tried to book here short notice and were pleasantly surprised to find they had one vacancy for our holiday dates. We stayed here for a week. I was expecting the usual low key facilities from the caravan club. The best toilets cant be faulted on any site. Limited things to do. On arriving we managed to find the perfect pitch high up near to toilets but raised up so we had sea views, many pitches here do.
It is a big site. There is an entertainment programme. Pool games room. Bar, fast food, all things I thought never existed on caravan clubs, everything was spotless, well run and friendly.
The bus service runs from the gate outside, into brixham one way or dartmouth and across on a ferry the other. Very easy to get about,
We were told there was a walk to the beach nearby which we attempted thinking it was a short easy walk. This was not the case. It was a very steep decline, plagued by horse flies. At the bottom we were not sure which route to take. Waded through a muddy stream and up yet another steep hill upwards. This turned out to be the wrong route. Retracing our steps and tired out by now we tried the other signposted trail. But this was yet another impossible climb and descent. We gave up at this point and returned back disappointed.
The climb back was nearly impossible for anyone not in the peak of fitness. I would stick to the main beaches roundabout, a lot easier.
Apart from that minor detail the site has it all. Very popular, pool was lovely. Weather was very hot. Not a drop of rain. Pitches huge. Cant fault the facilities,
Book it while you can.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 nights at Hillhead. It is easy to find, has a beautiful setting with sea views from parts of the site, and is close to many areas of interest.
All amenities as described in other reviews, were available. The site was almost fully booked though and it was very difficult to locate a vacant pitch and even more difficult to get onto some of those that were available. There didn't seem to be any help from the wardens to get people onto pitches.
Some pitches are spacious and others very small and in seemingly impossible spaces to pitch on. A motor mover is a big advantage if staying on this site; also take plenty of levelling blocks and a windbreak is useful against the sea breezes.

Having read the good reviews on this site, I decided to book Hillhead for a week. I have to say that I agree with the majority of points made by others.
It has the most facilities I have seen on any campsite, these include a heated outdoor swimming pool, Restaurant\Bar, Cash Machine & Supermarket\Shop to name a few.
Swimming Pool - The Pool is a very child friendly pool, there is always at least one lifeguard (it is a constant 1.2M deep). It was a very comfortable temperature and you could easily swim when the weather isn't great. There is also a toddlers pool, there are also times when the pool is either exclusively available to adults or allows inflatables.
Restaurant\Bar - The Restaurant\Bar servers lunches and evening meals daily and has plenty of seating either internally or externally. The food was nothing exceptional but up to the standard you would expect in any run of the mill pub, the prices were reasonable. There is also a stage where there were three events daily, firstly a child friendly time at 7pm, Bingo at 8pm and cabaret at 9pm, There were also quizzes etc
Shop - There was a very well stocked shop, more like a mini supermarket with plenty of papers, magazines, food, drinks, ice creams, beach stuff and the usual cravanning items.
Games Room - There was also a games room with aracade games, slot machines, pool table and air hockey game.
Toilets - There were 2 large toilet areas, with pleny of toilets, showers and sinks all were very clean as you would expect from a Caravan Club site
There are Plenty of staff on site who are always polite helpful, they even allow you to arrive from 9am which I founde really useful.
Play area - The Play area is pretty good, with a huge field for playing ball games, a half pipe and a rather large fort type building.
Position - The Site is situated a few miles outside of Brixham and is ideally located for visiting Brixham, Paington and Dartmouth. Torquay is slightly further. Surprisingly there weren't really great beaches locally, the nearest was goodrington sands in Paington.
As others have stated, there is a bus that passes the site entrance and runs every 30 minutes, although I found it quite expensive to even get into brixham (for 2 adults and 1 child), the better option is the nearby park & ride.
It is an exceptional site however even with all of the positives I have pointed out, I do not feel I will return for two main reasons. The site although very large does not have an ideal layout, it is really segregated with some small communal areas but everything seems slightly disjointed and as stated by others, some of the pitches are a bit awkward. Secondly, although the Bar and evening entertainment is no doubt a bonus for some, I for one found it to be more like a holiday park and there was some noise when people are returing from the bar at the end of the evening.
To sum up, it really is a good fully featured site, but just didn't blow me away as I had hoped.

We stayed here for 5 nights, which included the end May Bank Holiday. As this meant children were not a school, it was hard to realise this fact as most were in the outside pool !
The entire site is wonderfully clean, with a variety of different pitches available, although all seem on a first come, first served, basis, so its the 'luck of the draw'.
The site has an adequate shop selling basic needs, plus some camping / caravanning spare parts. The bar on site is open all day, selling food. There is a carvery on Sundays, which also caters for those wishing to take away.
The toilet blocks were wonderfully clean and well kept. All the staff are pleasant and are all kept busy, which is a good point. The Dartmouth ferry is only a couple of minutes drive away; remember if you use the ferry to ask for a return ticket, as its a bit cheaper than two singles.
