We spent 5 nights here as part of 4 sites we visited during a 2. 5 week holiday and this was voted to be the best by my family, so much so that the kids want to back for a full 2 weeks next year.
Due to the awful weather, grass pitches weren't being used so everyone visiting was hardstanding.
Toilet blocks and facilities were probably the best I've seen. Food in the bar was good, and kids loved the pool (the couple of times they managed to get into it).
Bus to Brixham cost us £10 return ( 2A & 2C)
Only negatives I would say was the distance to water and bins from our pitch ( 185) which was quite a trek and may have been a bit tight getting in if the grass pitches opposite had been in use ( although the will put your van on your pitch if you ask)
All in all great site and we will definitely be back

A nice friendly welcome and efficient booking in on arrival. We were advised to park at the service area and have a walk round the site to find a pitch. We particularly wanted a grass pitch so we could put the pup tent up and there were quite a few vacant when we arrived.
As per previous reviews some of the pitches are hedged and very small with difficult access, this is evident from the rubber left of on the road where people have had difficulty getting off the pitches, however, most pitches are reasonable although levelling ramps are required on many.
The facilities on site are excellent, good toilets and showers, good play area, good dog walking area with excellent views across Torbay. The pool / bar / restaurant area is very popular and has light entertainment on every evening during peak season.
The only down side to this park is that you need to use your car to get anywhere. We walked into Kingswear and ferried across to Dartmouth which is a really attractive riverside town but the walk is down country roads without footpaths so you need to be very careful.
We also walked into Brixham but you are better off avoiding the roads, we used public footpaths and were then advised by a local of a route around little used lanes. We caught the bus back to the site which was £7 for 2 adults and 2 children. The cheapest way to get to Brixham is to drive to the park and ride and get the bus in.
All in all we had a really good holiday with fantastic weather and I would recommend this site particularly for families with children of any age.

This is a great site however there is one major bugbear check in at peak season/school holidays is chaotic and stressfull and very disorganised.
The site is situated on a hill and has difficult access to approx 40% of the pitches, this only posed a problem for us on check in as it was the first week of the school summer holidays. We were queueing to get onto the site from the road, some people were told to look around the pitch while waiting in the queue and decide on a pitch by placing a water carrier etc on it, others were told to park up by the play area and look/choose a pitch and report back to the office when you had pitched and others were told to pick from the selection of vacant pitches advised in the office on check in, consequently it was mayhem, parking by the play area is tricky and people were running all over the site to find a pitch and report back to the office and car driver. It was very frustrating as felt my loads of other holiday makers staying at the site I honestly think they should be alocated first come first served by the office on arrival its the only way to work it in my opinion. However after this obstacle was overcome the site is excellent :
Spotless showers never queued no push buttons immaculate and faultless
Great facilities, lovely laundry large cheap and easy to use, good bins/recycling facilities
Excellent spotless swimming pool, bar balcony overlooking it, well stocked shop although fresh bake rolls etc sold out in 10 minutes I do feel 2 - 3 bakes a day is needed at peak season. Great club v friendly bar staff, lovely play park and dog walk.
Immaculate grounds, staff worked tirelessly to trim hedges cut lawns and clear litter 24/7 very friendly too.
Great pitch sizes spotless some with great views others slightly cramped with difficult access but they will help you to pitch if you ask
Would return again loads to see and do in the area Brixham seawater pool a must great fun ! extremely dog friendly even in the outdoor area of the bar

We visited this site for a week over the school holidays, the site was full but never noisy.
There are some lovely walks direct from the site via public footpaths mostly very hilly but lovely views.
We where on pitch 54 which was hardstanding gravel and even though we had torrential rain and high winds, we were protected by the hedges and the water drained well.
The toilet/shower blocks are the best I have ever seen, and not push button showers either (they where each closed for 2 hours a day for cleaning) but this never caused us any problems.
We found the shop to be overpriced on many items but this is to be expected and there is a Morrisons or Sainsburys a short drive away in Paignton. I have to say we have been to many caravan club sites recently with 'regimental wardens' but this isn't the case here, we arrived 15 mins early and where allowed straight onto site and you can pitch your caravan in any direction as long as its central to the peg.
The only bad point we found was the children riding down the hills on their scooters disobeying the one way policy, whilst we where on site one couple had their car damaged and It would have improved our stay if the pool had been covered.

Visited site in 2001, before Caravan club took over. Two new toilet blocks have been added and the Club house has beeen refurbished, We had two meals in the bar, quality and quantity wise felt it was good value.
A lot of hard standing pitches have been put in, We ended up on one along the road at the bottom of the site, some opposite us were only big enough for smaller camper vans. There is no space for people to walk and with children playing on the road and flying about on scooters at times it was an accident waiting to happen.
The grass pitches were a pain, a lot had got big drops from the tarmac road down onto the grass in more than one direction making it very easy to ground your van. I helped one guy who had got his off side rear corner of the van and his near side motor of his mover buried. With all the work that's been done to the site I would have thought it wouldn't have taken much to sort this problem out.
Wardens were friendly and helpful.
Pool not very big. Good children's play area, good dog walk spoilt by campers (maybe children)not cleaning up there dog mess.
Brixham is a nightmare to park in though there is a park and ride at £1. 75 per adult.
The main Brixham to Torquay road is constantly busy, there is a ring road to Torquay.
Overall thought it very expensive and wouldn't return, too many problems getting a decent pitch at busy times, too much variation in size and accessibility.

Having just returned from hillhead I would make the following comments
The site is immaculate.
The bar and food is to be recommended.
The wardens are always there if you need them and very approachable.
It's in a great location to explore the area
The hard standing pitches are flat, grab the first free one you come across.
A lot of the pitches are well protected by hedges.
The children's play area, dog walking area and play field are very good.
The pool looked great, although in the recent inclement weather we didn't try it.
It is very easy to get to, just off the main road.
However :
Some of the pitches are very tight, to the extent that we could not pitch our porch awning properly, we were not alone in this. If you have a big twin axle you may struggle here on some of the pitches
Grass pitches do slope, some by a lot. Where we were pitched, levellers, chocks and blocks were in abundance.
Getting on some of the pitches will require a phd in manoeuvring unless you have a mover, however the wardens will move you onto a pitch if you ask. On arrival we were warned 'as we don't want you to burn your clutch out !'
The cul de sacs are there to catch out unwary caravaners proceed with caution !
There does not appear to be any restriction on parking two cars on the pitches (albeit for an additional fee), this also causes problems with space on some of the pitches.
It is an expensive site >50% more than we will be paying for cornwall in August. We along with some others we talked to also thought that it was expensive. I am not sure that it was worth the extra over other Caravan Sites which are equally as good albeit without the bar and pool.
Would we go back again, to be quite honest probably not

Stayed for 6 nights on this excellent site. Well placed for Torbay, Dartmouth and Brixham. Excellent bus service except for Sundays.
The heated toilet block is very clean at all times and showers were never busy even on the weekend. A family bathroom, laundry and dishwashing facilities are also in this block.
A convenient Motorhome service point in front of the block is conveniently placed for Motorhomes on their way to their respective pitches.
We had two days of torrential rain but the gravel pitches coped very well with no surface water. There is a handy shop and Resturant/bar providing a good menu choice.
Staff are friendly and very helpful. Large children's play area with lovely views over Torbay. Due to its elevation Hillhead does suffer from mist or low cloud quite a lot.
Have used this site on a number of occasions and never been disappointed.

It was our first visit to a caravan club site, but won't be our last.
We went as a family of 4 - 2 adults 2 children in the last week of Oct, / first week of November The site was very well set out with large pitches. As it was the end of season and very wet there were only hard standing in use. We found a very private pitch.
The showers and loos couldn't be faulted, and when the bar and restaurant were open the staff were very friendly.
The site was spotless and the staff so helpful. For example, Our water pump was leaking when we set up and the wardens found us numbers of places to obtain parts. We also got stuck due to the M25 being closed and they happily let us stay for an extra night.
All in all we would love to visit in the summer and even saw the posters advertising for Christmas. - Well worth considering.
The only negative and this is just being very picky is that the turning into some of the pitches can be tight for larger vans. However we are now looking around for another club site closer to home for weekend breaks as the standards seem to be very high.

Just returned from our 2nd 2 week summer holiday at Hillhead.
One word - Excellent.
The Warden team were excellent, the 2 wardens having 2 new assistants from last year. They were all approachable, ready to help, and have a laugh - the best we have ever encountered.
Toilets spotless, as per caravan club standard, pool and club complex top notch.
This year we had one of the smaller pitches no 194, no complaints from me ( But there were a few who liked to moan!)
Kids had a great time playing football and other ball games on the field.
There is a bus stop at the entrance to the site and Sainsburys and Morrisons are not too far away.
My kids have already stated they want to return for a 3rd time next year - Consider it booked kids!

We spent a week on this site at the start of this month.
The positives -
The site is very well laid out with excellent facilities.
The toilet, shower blocks and pot washing area's were always spotless.
The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced. The playground for the children was well used by our son as was the outdoor heated swimming pool. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday carvery (make sure you get there early though as its so good they often sell out) and the wardens were very friendly.
The site is centrally located and we enjoyed trips out to Paignton, Brixham, Kingswear and Dartmouth.
The negatives -
We went to the site knowing there wasn't any electric on the tent field, what we didn't know was they also don't have a facility to freeze blocks for cool boxes so we found ourselves buying food and drinks as we needed them which is not ideal and expensive.
We also think that £127 for 6 nights for a family of 3 in a tent without electric is expensive - we were the only tent on site for 3 nights and was only joined by 2 others during our stay even though the tent field has 15 pitches. This is a shame as it would be easy for the site to add electric to the tent field and that way would attract lots more campers.
