We don't normally go for large sites, but had heard so much about Hillhead that we thought we'd give it a try for one night and to our surprise, thoroughly enjoyed it.
The wardens were friendly and helpful, the site was very clean and well kept, with nice large pitches and we enjoyed getting in the extremely well kept pool for a swim.
In the evening we had a very nice carvery from the site restaurant, which we were able to eat at the poolside. We missed the entertainment, but will give that a go next time we visit.
Will definitely go back and may stay a bit longer next time.

Visited this site for three days in middle of May.
This site must be one of the best in U. K. Staff polite and professional. Policy of picking your own pitch gives flexibility.
Difficult to mention anything they do not provide.
Mostly hardstanding with hedges and bushes dividing plots. Spotless showers and toilets, in fact they seem to have thought of everything.
Shop, restaurant, club, swimming pool, dog field.
All this can only be achieved by staff who really care about their customers.
Cost £20. 00. Two adults +two dogs.

Having been here before during the summer months and found the sites facilities excellent, we decided to go again for New Year in 2011. Obviously we didn't expect the pool to be open but we did expect to be able to use the restaurant on New Years Eve, unfortunately for us it was a pre-booked 'Ticket Only' night which was not mentioned to us when we booked our pitch. Agreed this detail could be found on line but it was not obvious so we were somewhat disappointed to have to celebrate New Year in our motorhome because we could not enjoy the evening fun unless someone else failed to turn up.
The site in every other respect is first class and maintained to a very high standard. The locality is perfect for Torbay, Dartmouth and surrounding areas and there is a bus stop right by the entrance.
Will we go there again? Yes as it's a great site and this review only reflects our New year visit.

Great site. We arrived late and the wardens told us to pitch and that we could move in the morning. We ended up with a great place near the playground and with wonderful sea views. The park had an excellent castle for my 5 year old, and little caravan and motorhome which was a hit with our 2 yr old.
The facilities were good, clean and well positioned on the site.
The pool was shut when we were there, but the evening entertainment for children at the Nico bar was the first night we have ever taken the children for a drink - it turns out they love bingo!
Great location, with excellent, clean beaches and interest points for the kids - trains, castles, boats - who could ask for more?
We actually left my son's camera in the club, and the wardens had it back to us within the next two days by post - really kind and appreciated swiftness!
Will return.

Loved this site, very friendly, helpful people. Went when it was casino weekend, had a fantastic evening. Will be booking for next year. Buffet was fantastic, best one we have been to. Entertainment was very good. Pitch was good size, nice and level. We were bit concerned before we got there as pitches sloping on the website, which they are, but not as bad as they looked - several are flat. They have cul-de-sac areas which look great but we never used them. Toilet and shower facilities are one of the best we have come across. Great shop, nice swimming pool. Great area for fill up and waste disposal for motorhome. Again best we have seen. Will be going again

Arrived at Hillhead on a Friday lunchtime in the middle of september. On arrival we had a friendly greeting from the wardens but were amazed at how few pitches were left.
This site is BIG and we had to drive around the perimeter road of the site twice before we could find a suitable pitch. Even though there are some sea view pitches I think the pitches are spoiled somewhat by high hedges, so even at the top of the site you wont get a view due to the hedging.
A lot of pitches are located in 'cul-de-sacs' which are supposed to be suitable for 4 caravans - this we felt was ambitious as some of them were so small we think they were only suitable for 2. We managed to get a pitch, it was not level, and on grass right at the top of the site next to a main road so we started out our holiday not very happy!
After pitching we strolled around the site and noticed quite a few vans leaving from good pitches which is a tad annoying after you've been driving around for half an hour trying to find one! Think the wardens should not let customers late stay on pitches when the site is almost full. The two following days the site emptied even more - looks as though we picked the wrong day to turn up so would advise future visitors maybe to turn up on a Saturday or Sunday.
Despite the weather being beautiful and warm (hotter than we had in the Summer) we were told the pool was closing in 2 days so to make the most of it. Husband went to the pool just after 5pm for a quick swim and pool was closed even though we were told it stayed open till 6pm - so again not impressed.
Facilities - clean and usual CC standards.
After settling in the site began to win us over more - the on site bar & restaurant is delightful with VERY good food, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Nice they allowed dogs into the 'covered' patio area.
Shop - one of the most comprehensive shops we've ever seen on a site, you really would not need to bring any food with you what with the shop and the restaurant.
Dog walk - ample 'let off area' and you can also 'on lead' walk around the large recreation field. We are going to let the site know about the gate to the dog field though as our dog escaped due to some panels of wood missing from the bottom of the gate.
Ideal location for exploring the South Devon coast - we spent the day at Dartmouth & Slapton Sands. Blackpool Sands is a beautiful beach but sadly no dogs whatsoever.
All in all ~ first impressions is that the site is a bit overwhelming and it does take time to get your bearings. Pitches are not great and you do feel a bit 'hemmed in' and you feel close to your neighbours, we probably would return but when it is a lot quieter in the season.

We booked Hillhead because our favourite park in the area was fully booked, but we were certainly not disappointed. This is one of the Caravan Club's flagship parks and has the facilities that you would expect from such a park.
When we arrived the weather was awful, it was pouring with rain and you could not see across the park for the mist but we were given a map of the park with all of the available pitches and told to take any one which suited us.
Because we had not been here before and due to the weather conditions we took the first hard standing pitch that we came across, which was very nice and you could see the sea from one of the windows but otherwise had very little outlook. When the weather cleared up and we were able to look around the park it was apparent that there are some really nice pitches with sea views towards the lower left side of the park which we would try for on our next visit.
The toilet/shower facilities were, as you would expect on this park, first class. The park has two blocks which are closed at different times of the day for cleaning so that there is always one open whenever you need to use them.
There is also an exceptionally well stocked shop in the entertainment complex, a children's games room, bar and restaurant and swimming pool (which seemed to be closed throughout our five nights there). There was entertainment in the bar every evening we were there, some of which was very good yet some others were really poor. We did not try the meals here so cannot comment.
WiFi is available here through the clubs scheme at £5.00 for five hours and the signal is very good. If you do not use all of your time purchased here you can use it on other club sites which have the new system installed.
All in all an excellent park which we will return to and recommend to others.

We loved this site - one of the best we have been to and I am sure we will return sometime in the future. Our children (3 and 6) LOVED the play area - a huge wooden fort as well as a model caravan and campervan they could play in.
The pool was fantastic - quite warm and big enough for a good swim. I enjoyed the adult only swim times (3 times a week) but also managed some lengths when everyone else was in there. Everything was immaculately maintained and some of the best toilet blocks and washing up areas I have seen anywhere.
There are great views of the sea from the big playing field where you can fly a kite or play football.
Although it is a great site that I would highly recommend, there were a few minor negatives (not that they would put me off going again).
Many of the pitches are hardstanding with little grass nearby for children to play by their pitch. We managed to find a grass one at the end of a little cul de sac in a grassy area of 3 pitches which allowed a safe grassy area in the middle for our children to play. A disadvantage of this was that there were a lot of rabbit droppings on the pitch and our groundsheet got rather dirty and they got stuck to shoes when it had rained.
There was a fantastic beach nearby called Blackpool Sands with a great cafe - a beautiful Devon cove. The easiest way to get there was on the Dartmouth ferry - very scenic - but at £4.50 each way and about £6 for parking at the beach it was not a cheap day out.
Totnes nearby was lovely - great castle and I could have shopped all day (and I hate shopping!) There is Riverford organic food shop there so we did our grocery shopping there rather than having to go to the supermarket. We also found a great farm shop very near the site. Brixham, nearby was a nice harbour town for a good stroll and there were lots of other places to visit in the area that we did not make it to on this visit.
Paignton was horrible - both the town and the beach. It would have been nice to have a nice beach within easy driving distance but this did not detract from a great holiday.

We visited this site in august in our tent, very expensive site for tent paid £28 per night, same as caravans and motorhome, which received free electric.
Tent field is at the very back of the site, with no electric hook-ups, no street lights, very dark at night with young children, its a four minute walk to toilets and shower blocks.
Toilet and showers were very modern and clean. No electric sockets, but do have hairdryers.
Toilet and showers blocks closed at 10.30 to 12.00 every day, so there is a morning rush!
Clubhouse is excellent, good value meals and drink prices average. Friendly staff. 6entertainment average. One minor problem when it rains, floors are very dangerous for al ages
Probably wont return to this site as a tent camper, overpriced for a tent

Our first stay at Hillhead and what a charming site. There are several levels to choose your pitch, ours being the lower level, but with sea views and distant hills through the foliage. We had a private pitch with mature hedges on both sides.
The shower/toilet block had plenty of cubicles, sinks and hairdryers with outside but undercover sinks for washing up and veg preparation adjacent. This site offers a very well stocked shop with papers, veg, meats, bread, milk and basic caravan accessories. A heated outside swimming pool was popular even on rainy days with a veranda to keep your eye on the children.
Excellent bar/restaurant and evening entertainment should you want it.
Brixham marina is beautiful and is a wonderful walk. The local supermarkets are minutes away for larger items and petrol. A site rather different from the normal caravan club site, but for great family entertainment with polite staff its a site well worth a visit.
