Really nice Caravan Club site, has all the facilities if you want them. Pitches are excellent with something to please everyone, from secluded full hedged individual ones on grass to open hard-standings. Lovely big showers and clean toilet block. Good on site dog walk area, full fenced off so they can have a run, separate tent field as well. Bus stop is right out side the gate but we chose to walk into Brixham, took us just over an hour, the first 3/4 mile is a bit hairy as there is no footpath, but after that easy, just uphill on the way back. Found motorhome friendly parking between Goodrington and Paignton at the Torbay Leisure Centre, ten minutes walk and you are at Paignton Sea Front.

This was a lovely site. It has some separated pitches and others which have a few sectioned together. The views from some sections of this camp were spectacular. There is a football field and swimming pool which were well used by the children! The staff were helpful too and there were a lot of places to visit in the area. We would go back if in that neck of the woods again.

The whole of the site is on a hill (hence the name) and as mentioned in previous reviews some of the pitches are quite small- make sure you state the length of your outfit when booking! Some of the pitches were only wide enough to take a caravan and awning - something to bear in mind if you are taking a pup tent for the kids. The play area consist of a large "fort" which was very popular as well as a skateboard ramp next door. During our stay there was quite a bit of noise until around 10pm, and the wardens were having to field off a few complaints - apparently there may be a time restriction next year. The spar shop in the courtyard area had good range of stuff, and the prices were not unreasonable bearing in mind that the nearest alternative is some distance away. There was also a room full of slot machines (yuk), and a bar / restaurant area. The take away facility was reasonable (choice of pizzas, burgers etc) although we weren't over enamoured by the restaurant - a tad over priced in our opinion. The pool area consists of a main pool with an adjoining paddling pool. Although the pool is heated it is the main pool that gets the benefit - the toddler pool was quite cold in comparison. There is also a mediocre supply of sunbeds which got snapped up very quickly. The entertainment was ok but the downside was that there were quite a few teenagers and even young children hanging around outside until their parents had finished in the bar at 11pm! The wardens did make regular patrols around the site and worked very hard to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves. The surrounding area is full of attractions and was also very busy in mid august as to be expected - our recommendations were Paignton Zoo and Kent's Cavern - you need to arrive early at these places to avoid the crowds later on in the day. As you can gather this is NOT the site to go to if you want to avoid free range children - the majority were well behaved although there were exceptions. Book early if you want to go to this site as it is very popular. For: Lots of facilities on site very family friendly Against: small pitches can get crowded in peak season very busy tourist area

This is definitely my favourite site in the south-west. The site is often full, but it's worth trying their waiting list, as both times we've been on it, they have come up trumps. The site is very well laid out and very well run. We visited at the start of the school holidays and even then there was minimum noise from other users. The views over Torbay from the back of the site and the childrens play area are fantastic. Facilities for children are good - a large play area and well-equipped baby and family washrooms. Food prices are quite reasonable, and this year Nico's, the on-site food provider, has come up with some theme nights (Oriental, Italian, Sunday carvery) which were quite good value. You can buy bar snacks quite cheaply or splash out (normal pub prices) on the standard meals. The pool is lovely, clean, and has lifeguards, but there are minimum sunbeds. Pitches seem to vary widely in size, but even on the busiest day of the year we were able to choose from about 10 pitches when arriving at midday. It is sometimes difficult to park in Brixham and Kingswear, but there are bus stops right outside the gates of the site.

Been to Hillhead many times even before it was owned by the Caravan Club! It is beautiful since it was upgraded! Especially like the terraced pitches! Only criticism is that there is nothing for the teenagers. Before it was refurbished there was a separate disco room where the older kids could go, now they just loiter around the kids play area in the evening. And wrap up warm if you want to sit outside in the courtyard in the evening - it gets very cold when the sun goes down!

Superb, perhaps the best site we have stayed on. Beautiful, faultless. Despite being busy, the site was immaculate. Two superb toilet blocks, lovely courtyard with toddler pool and good size pool. The bar served good value meals and the shop was well stocked. I really can't recommend this site highly enough. Remember to take equipment to level caravan as some pitches are not level.

We love this site, as it is only 30 minutes from home. It is equipped with all you could need although we felt the shop which is run by Spar was very expensive. On site facilities include swimming pool, with attendant, entertainment from 7pm, including ents for the kids, bingo and caberet as well as excellant, but expensive food.

July 2004 Unfortunately unlike many club sites you could not choose your pitch and the one we were allocated we could not get our caravan on (under 20 ft) without the helpful wardens - however it was so tight and no view as surrounded by coniferous hedges - we didn't stay even one night as could not get the caravan level and not much room on pitch for awning and car. We think the club have been improving the pitches over the winter - we hope they have.

July 2004 Top marks for this new site belonging to the Caravan Club. The facilities are excellent for all age groups. The staff could not be more helpful or obliging. Toilet blocks are spotless and include a number of individual family rooms, a sauna and laundry. The number of wash basin cubicles could have been reduced in favour of one or two more shower cubicles, to cope with peak season usage.
The restaurant/bar has a pleasant seating arrangement, entertainment stage and large projection TV. Take away meals are also available. Outside there is plenty of seating and also access to the outdoor swimming pool. The latter has a lifeguard in attendance.
An information room adjoins the reception and is well stocked with information and advice on local services and tourist guides.
The pitch layout attempts to make the most use of available ground. Privacy hedges make some of the pitches quite small. The pitches come in all shapes and sizes. Squares, oblongs and triangles! A one-way driving system is in place so anyone located on the lower south pitches will experience lots of passing traffic. The hedges are quite high so anyone using a satelite dish and pitched in a position not clearly seeing 152 degrees would do well to consider either a pole mount system to raise the dish higher or an extention run of satelite coax to take the dish further away from the caravan than they would normally use.
The play area looked superb and good fun for kids. There are plenty of activities for them to partake and despite this, kids will continue to come down to the nearby drinking water, waste water and chemical disposal point and pretend to be firefighters with the waterhoses.
Behind the play area is a field containing a small football field and volley ball net. There is a very good dog walking field, plus a field with seating and providing a nice view looking over Torbay and Exmouth and along the coast over Lyme Bay to Portland Bill.
The Caravan Club has certainly come up trumps with this site and I for one hope it'll be the first of many similiar ventures.

June 2004 This is now a Caravan Club site although open to non-members. It has just been thoroughly refurbished to provide top-notch facilities. The site is terraced providing fairly flat pitches - although some are a little small. As we were in a cul-de-sac bay for 3 units with only 2 units occupied, it meant the children had a bit of room to play next to the van. Saying that the play areas are huge, a massive fort with a fantastic view from the top level. A field for ball games, a field for running about and as we did flying kites plus a seperate dog walking field.
The toilet blocks are immaculate as you would expect from a brand new building. As we were there during the half term holiday, both blocks were fully open but they were planning to close off half of each with expected fewer people on the site.
The restaurant served adequate food and the staff were friendly and willing to assist in anyway such as bringing out our sons birthday cake and singing! The Spar shop sold everything needed - even candles for the cake.
The only downside for us was that the pool area had not been completed. This was unfortunate but it looked as though it was going to be fab and we would like to return to take advantage of it sometime in the future.
All in all a great site and well worth a visit. Have fun.
