To Find Site:- From North on A380 follow signs for Paignton and Brixham, then take A3022 signed for Brixham. At traffic lights turn right onto A379 signed for Dartmouth and Brixham. In about two miles at mini roundabout, signed for Dartmouth/Kingswear, turn right and immediately fork left onto B3205. The site is second on the left with clear signs at the entrance.
Hillhead Caravan Club site is what you might call one of the Club’s all singing, all dancing campsites in that it has a swimming pool and a bar/restaurant plus proper shop. It is open from around March to early January and accepts non-members. The topography of the site is as the name suggests it is on a headland overlooking the sea and many pitches do have a nice sea view. The very nature of the site means that some pitches will require levelling blocks although the hardstanding are quite good and only require minimal levelling in most cases. Hillhead is a large campsite with 256 pitches in total. They are mainly on grass but there are 111 hardstanding pitches and included in that number are 27 serviced pitches for which an extra charge applies. Thirteen of the pitches are designated for tents. Some of the pitches are divided by hedges which not only gives some privacy but also shelter from a stiff sea breeze. Electric points are convenient to all pitches and are rated at 16amps and use CEE17 blue connectors. The bollards also have a TV co-ax hook-up but you have to provide your own cable or purchase one from reception. There are several service points dotted around the site. The motorhome service point is outside the toilet block near reception but does require heavy covers to be removed before emptying waste water. There are two modern toilet blocks of excellent quality. The lower block is usually closed at the end of September and only the main one nearer to reception kept open. The main one does have the advantage of a fully enclosed washing up area. For families the major advantage of this site is the facilities for children. It has a swimming pool (seasonal) and a fairly extensive adventure style playground, in addition there is a large field for kick about sports. The site also has a bar/restaurant and a shop selling everyday essentials and some camping accessories. There is site wide WiFi and time can be purchased online, however I found it frustratingly slow a lot of the time during our stay.
This site is conveniently close to many of the attractions of this part of Devon. Brixham and Torbay are close by as is Kingswear and Dartmouth. The Dart Valley Railway runs from Kingswear to Paignton. The two ferries across to Dartmouth open up more opportunities for exploration including cruises on the River. If you prefer to use public transport the site is well served with regular bus services from immediately outside the campsite to Kingswear, Brixton and Paignton with further connections from all those places. For shopping, apart from the on site shop, there are supermarkets en route to Torquay.

We've just had a fantastic 5 nights at this excellent CC site.
Small'ish B road down to the site but with passing places so nothing to worry about.
Easy, friendly, efficient booking in. As with most CC sites you get to choose your pitch. We always prefer hardstanding pitches but these are quite limited here and usually the first to be pitched on. We were very lucky this time and got a very secluded pitch with a glimpse of the sea up 'the avenue'.
Great facilities on site. 2 toilet/shower blocks, both always spotlessly clean and never had to queue for a shower once. Plenty of water points dotted around the site, with bins, recycling, and covered washing up areas too. Small but well stocked shop where you can buy daily newspapers without ordering and a good selection of food and drink. Bar and restaurant on site (which we didn't use this time). The wardens kindly recommended a local Indian takeaway that delivered to the site and it was excellent.
Plenty to do from the site without moving our motorhome. Bus stop right outside the site. £4 each return to Brixham which turned out to be expensive as we later discovered the 'day rider' ticket for £4. 90 which allowed you unlimited travel within the whole of the Torbay area (to Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Newton Abbot, Totnes, etc. ). £3. 40 each return to Kingswear where you can catch the steam train, ferry over to Dartmouth, etc. , etc. We purchased the Jubilee Pass which allowed us unlimited travel on the train, ferry across to Dartmouth and numerous boat trips. The cost was £37 each for a 3 day pass and in our opinion it was well worth it. We certainly got our moneys worth. We did the Round Robin, a sea cruise and the steam train twice!
I have no doubts we'll be back to Hillhead again at some stage.

Having read previous reviews of this site, I had high expectations. Unfortunately they were not to be fulfilled. All the facilities appear to be up to normal Caravan Club standards, but the site itself had an unpleasantly cramped and crowded feel. When we arrived, the only available hardstanding pitches were tiny 'lay - bys' alongside the site roadways, with no view and very close in all directions to adjacent units.
We were assured by the warden who booked us in, that the available grass pitches would be fine for our 'van. The fact that we subsequently had to spend a pleasant half-hour extricating the 'van from a bog, cast some doubt on that assertion. We also noticed considerable road noise on substantial areas of the site. Eventually, we gave up trying to find a suitable pitch and agreed with the warden that we would effectively transfer the booking to nearby Ramslade.
The site's key asset is it's location and there is no doubt that it is well placed for Brixham, Dartmouth etc. There are, however, altogether more pleasant sites in the area offering similar access.

A lovely site in between Brixham and Kingsweir / Dartmouth, yes its at the top of a hill, on the outskirts, but that lead to it being peaceful. As usual, excellent shower facilities and knowledgeable, helpful wardens keeping the site immaculate. For us walkers both Brixham & Dartmouth (via the passenger ferry) are lovely walks with the dogs, the dog field was more than adequate for general ablutions and large enough to let off lead for a good stretch after miles on the lead. Very challenging but stunning walk to Mansand Beach where the dogs can have a swim. For non walkers the bus stop is directly outside the site so for me its an ideal all rounder of a site. Pool not yet open and didn't use the clubhouse as not our thing

Lots of other reviews about this site talk about the fact it it is very hilly and you'll need level if blocks. It's called HILLHEAD - What do people expect??
It's a great family campsite in a great part of South Devon, a large site that is terraced forming lots of 4/5 pitch clusters which we really liked. Some were smaller than others, but when we arrived we were shown a map of available pitches which we walked round and looked at before we chose one.
The site had a Pool which we enjoyed using, it had a bar and restaurant which were nice, a little noisy but food, service and atmosphere were great.
Don't bother with the wifi, we use Caravan Club sites regularly so we have a 12 month wifi token that can be used at any caravan club site.
There is loads to do locally, we took a bus to Brixham town which was lovely, we ate in a restaurant on the harbour side which was great. Got taxi back which was just as cheap as the bus fare there. We also went to Dartmouth via the foot passenger ferry. Both were very beautiful seaside towns, we'll certainly visit again. We took a Round Robin tour, going by boat, bus and steam train, stopping at Totnes, and Paignton. Well worth the trip.

Spotless facilities and superb customer service from the CC as one would expect. Quite a hilly site so if you pitch at the lower part of the site you have quite a steep incline to walk to the facilities and bus stop on the main road. Decent playground for the kids with a HUGE playfield but only a small dog exercise area for the size of the site. Small off-the-lead dog walk in a lane next to the site but this leads to a very demanding but dog friendly walk up and down to a remote beach where you can pick up the South Devon Coastal trail.
Nice heated pool, decent enough bar with musical entertainment on most evenings. Very good shop. Site handy for short drive into Brixham or beautiful Dartmouth. No local pub within walking distance unfortunately

The site is in a great location and not far from the King Harry Ferry to Dartmouth. The site is very well kept and has hedges partitioning pitches. Some of the pitches are sloping though, so need to carry levelling blocks. It has a swimming pool plus unusual for a Caravan Club site, a games room of the electronic variety. There is also a bar and restaurant, plus a shop on site. The only thing I would not spend money on is the Caravan Club wifi operated by AirAngel. I thought I would try it for one day at £2. 50 and never once got connected. I was a very short distance from the transmitter too, so don't waste your money.

Access to this site is straight forward, but be sure to follow the club's directions.
Checkin was both friendly and super efficient. The wardens know their site and will direct you to the most suitable pitches. Note that most slope slightly and levelling blocks will be required.
Some complain that pitches are small, we did not find this to be the case, we had ample space for our caravan with full size awning and annex with space to park two cars. Some of the pitches are simply huge.
Two facility block were of a very high standard and never seemed pushed even with a full site.
Be warned, the site is high on a hill and therefore it can get windy so make sure you are well pegged and strapped down.
The site is huge, but if you choose your pitch carefully it won't appear that way.
There is a well stocked shop, club house and restaurant with nice outdoor seating areas and a heated outdoor swimming pool, as well as an arcade and games room.
Outdoors there is plenty of room to site around units and a large children s play area and games field is provided adjacent to the large fenced in dog walk.
The site is a credit to the hard working team of wardens and was immaculate a all times.

I have just returned from Hillhead Caravan Club Site, Brixham and I was extremely disappointed with site and also the wifi service.
This is my first year with the Caravan Club after being an independent and avid caravane'r since I was a child with my parents and which has continued for almost for 55 years.
The arrival procedure is terrible, ( I have since been informed ALL Caravan Club Sites are the same)
Ie: 'Leave your car and caravan at reception sir and go and find a pitch', WHAT! no booking of pitches in advance, go and find my own, and all for £490. I think it is about time the Caravan Club got organised and introduced a booking service.
It is 2, 559 meters to walk around the site looking for a pitch.
As I'am disabled I was able to send my wife as the 'advanced scouting party' and I was then situated on pitch 61, luckily pitch 60 was also available for my brother otherwise we could have ended up at the opposite ends of the camp.
WiFi don't bother it's a rip off.
As I was situated on pitch 61 the wifi repeated aerial was just across from me but my ability to connect and maintain a stable connection was abysmal. Having spoken to a few of the other's on the site even pitch 57 (4 meters from the repeater could not get online)
I did contact Airangle direct but this had no affect on my service and was a waste of a phone call.
I did manage to get a connection, but only by using my own mobile phone as a 'MOBILE HOTSPOT'
I think that the Caravan Club should abandon the wifi service and/or offer it free of charge where by you login using your membership number.
There may be other sites that the service is acceptable but NOT at HILLHEAD
Will I be renueing my Caravan Club Membership, , , what do you think, £46 for them to send me a magazine I don't want full of adverts of items I can purchase off ebay.

Having heard lots of good reports from my sister on this site, we arranged to meet up for a week. Sadly it appeared standards had fallen since their last visit. Even though we appreciate it was a busy time, we felt with so many wardens on site that cleanliness of the toilet and shower blocks left a lot to be desired. No paper in some cubicles, no soap in dispensers and on occasions the smell knocked you back. Very large site well laid out, but we will not be returning any time soon
