Arrived at Peak Gateway on the friday teatime, the entrance and the drive up to the camp was lovely, booked in (don't forget your £10 deposit for the barrier card).

We went to find our pitch which was field 10a, very busy this weekend all the other fields were full, we made our way to our pitch and I couldn't believe how close we all were only enough room for tent car tent and same again behind our tent, talk about head to toe!

Children didn't have any room to play unless taken to the park.

Toilets were terrible, port a cabin with 3 loos and wash basins which were not very clean and if you go remember toilet roll!

Outside the toilets you will find 1 sink to wash your pots, this is 1 sink for all the campers, also has No canopy this was not a problem for me as the sun was shining.

Going back to our pitch there is nothing to use if there is a fire, no sand/blanket etc, I only realised when I had a little accident with the stove!

Showers are disgusting, 2 showers in the main block which were dirty and very old, 2 showers are not enough for the amount of campers and the weekend we stayed so did about 100 motorcycle ladies, the showers were along way if staying in a tent.
Pub, shop, park all looks new and very nice.

I will not be going back

Overall this was a very good site - we visited over a weekend in June, camping with friends and their young children. The pitches were well marked and very generous, even though it was busy (plenty of room to play). Not being used to sites with pubs, play areas, clubhouses etc, we were initially aprehensive - but this is a very relaxed site, and hasn't suffered from a regimented feel. Even the walk to the showers wasn't a problem as there was no queue. Only downsides - ran out of hot water for pot washing and the portacabin loos could do with some TLC. Would go back again. And the nearby Tissington Trail is great

Enjoyed a two-night stay at this campsite on a fairly busy (although mid-peak) time of year. Site welcomed my husband to look around before considering whether to book a stay and, although you cannot reserve a pitch, the staff did assure him that they would try and make his preferred location available which they did - we did pitch quite early though.

Fields for tents large and without dividing boundaries between tents but adequate pitch size provided (ours is a 6-berth). Whilst the ground was comfortable, there were quite a lot of large stones which proved a challenge for our aluminium tent pegs - would consider steel pegs next time.

Vehicle access into the site controlled by barriers a card for which is given when you arrive for a small deposit (£10 at this time) - fully refunded when you hand it back before leaving.

Toilet block wasn't really adequate with only 3 toilets (ladies) which weren't spotless although useable. No proper shelving/hooks in the loos for sponge bags etc and one loo with a broken lock was a weak point although didn't spoil our short break. Further, better toilets available in the block where showers were housed although this is a trek for a midnight visit! These were clean although not particularly modern and only 2 showers per gender.

As per other comments, access to shop a bit hit and miss although stocked the basics and allowed storage of freezer blocks. Other facilities include play area for kids, pub and tea room.

The site was family-dominated and would have been quiet except for a group of 20-30-somethings (all staying in different tents - not a block booking as such) who were well-behaved in the day but got very rowdy at 12.30-3.00 am, despite the campsite specifying quiet after 11.30 pm. This was a shame (especially as we have an 8 month old baby who luckily slept through but woke very early after our disturbed night!) and did spoil the visit although to the owner's credit, he did make an appearance to try and silence the noise, presumably once it had been reported, and came round again in the morning to check on the situation.

The site is easy to find and close to Ashbourne which is a lovely town, pleasant to walk around and with a lovely Indian restaurant /takeaway! (Bengal Cottage - leaflet at campsite). Also visited Sudbury Hall - good National Trust site where you can spend half a day including a visit to a very nice pub over the road! (Hall not open until 1pm although gardens available earlier). Plus of course, as the name suggests, this site is right at the entrance to the peak district. On balance, would visit again for another short break.

Just back from Peak Gateway. Site was great, we were on field B for tents and very handy for the toilets. These were Portacabins but this is better than having to walk a long way at night to the main block, which could also do with a bit of modernising. They were very clean on arrival but by the end of the weekend they were looking a little tired.

On site facilities were fine, great Indoor/Outdoor pub, where you can sit and keep an eye on your children in the play area. It was nice and warm & sunny whilst we were there, so there was a large inflatable type swimming pool for children to play in, plus a couple of trampolines. We went with the two children aged 12 & 10 plus a dog. The site was great for them with plenty of space. There is also plenty of places that you can exercise the dog, and a good walk through the woods only 5 Min's away.

Ashbourne would be quite a hike by foot, but only 5-10 min's by car. The Village of Osmaston near by is also worth a visit, with a good pub, good food, and children friendly. We had a good time here, and would recommend it, and will be going back.

Just returned from a Weekend stay at Peak Gateway, despite the England match being played on Saturday. Although there are plenty of facilities on site (eg. Children's Play area, Cafe etc.) we found the toilet and Shower facilities inadequate based on the size of the site. The toilet facilities that served the tent fields were Port-a-Cabins and looked as though they we're only cleaned once a day. By the middle of Saturday afternoon the ladies toilets, in particular, were very dirty and needed cleaning again.

We have just arrived back from a great weekend at Peak Gateway. Pitches were plenty big enough even for our campus indiana 8, car and trailer. Fields were very well kept and litter free. Toilets on the camping pitches were ok and clean, however the ones in the main block (which was heated) were alot nicer. No charge for the showers, which were lovely and hot - plus clean. No noise at all at night even when field was busy. Staff were extremely friendly.

There is also excellent facilities for the kids (trampolines, adventure park, indoor play room, and a great place for the older kids to hang out which has video games, table football, pool table, etc). Great bar/restaurant (although we never ate here - just drank !). There is also a cafe and shop but we never used this facilities (only to refreeze ice packs). We were a little worried that there maybe noise after the entertainment on Saturday night but we didn't hear a thing. Campsite in a great location for visisting dovedale/ashbourne, etc.

A cracking family site that offers a bit of everything for everyone, whilst successfully managing to retain that perfect countryside getaway. Will definitly be going to this one again!

Very nice flat site, the new owners have obviously invested a lot of time and money updating the bar, children's play area and shop.

We did find the showers and pot washing a treck from the tent field. The showers were free, clean and the water hot.

We have hardly seen the children (age 5 and 7), the children's play area and footbal field kept them well amused. Our only gripe here being on Saturday night we did not wish to see the entertainment and with out warning the Outside In closed, leaving no choice but to pay the entrance fee to the function room if you wanted to sit inside for a drink.

The owner was extremely helpful and sorted us out when we flattened out car battery trying to keep the beer cold in the cool box!

A site worth a visit. Make sure you take a washing up bowl for the side of your tent. We would recomend biking to Thors Cave, a climb worth the view.

Very suitable site for families, flat pitches clean and easily accessible. The indoor inflatable play ground was good for my two children (4&5 yrs), the pub was a welcome sight during a cold wet Easter weekend. Only downfalls, we didn't know when the shop/pub/cafe would be open, there were no signs to be seen and the opening times were very hit and miss. Very friendly site, lovely setting and will definitely return.

My first camping experience ever, friends had been to Peak Gateway the weekend previous, so we decided to give it a go (had to buy everything quickly). First night was horrendous weather - thunder, lightning, wind and rain. However, thought facilities there were great, and after a hearty breakfast in cafe decided to stay the second night. Activities were great for kids, both day and night. Didnt use the showers. Will definitely be returning next year.

I visited here with my wife and 2 children - overall the site was superb. The new play area for children was brilliant, my 7 year old daughter was never off it. The tenet pitches were a good size no matter how big a tent you have. The entertainment at night was good - they have 3 different places to drink. There is a large function room with disco for the whole family and then there is a family room with tv, comfy seats and is a non smoking area. Then there is the pub itself where children are not allowed so you can get some peace. The food in the cafe was very nice and the cafe was very clean. I think the only thing that let the site down was the showers but I believe that these are going to be refurbished over the following months along with new indoor play areas and an indoor pool.

Overall a cracking site and the owners and staff are superb will definatley go again and I would recommend it to anyone.
