Campsite was quite quiet for high season (August). Half the site was empty which meant the kids didn't make any friends. The wind whistled through the site and had difficulty putting up tent! Not much to do on site. No shop as such and had to get essential food items elsewhere. Showers were flooded and were cold when we went - not a great experience and had to take my kids to be bathed at a relatives house! Breakfasts from the cafe were good.
The overall site was clean and tidy and had plenty of space on our pitch. We had bad weather when we went so I'm sure on sunnier days, the overall experience of this campsite would have been better.

We stayed two nights in August over a weekend whilst visiting Alton Towers (just 20 minutes drive away).
We have a large tent with a family of four.
I choose this site based on its positive reviews and the lousy ones of its neighbours/competitors. It didn't let us down! Excellent activities in evening and daytime kept our children (aged 9 and 11) occupied- 3 trampolines (all new), a very large bouncy castle in evening and a family disco. Cheap food at the bar.
Really modern and clean main shower block. Big tent sites (10 m x 10 m) more than adequate for a large tent and car, plus space in between you and the neighbours.
The staff are all really friendly and with a can do attitude (even lent us a pan as we had forgotten to pack one!). They run a shuttle bus free to Ashbourne.
The kids (and I) really loved karting (2 person motor karts) on Sunday morning around a huge field- only £3 for 3 laps.
My only suggestion for them is to upgrade the toilet block in the tent area (ie not the main block in the caravan area) as it is a prefab and is very tired. If you want a shower its a longer walk to the main block.
Other than that - recommended!

Just got back from 3 night stay. Couldnt get EHU but got good pitch not too far from toilets. I thought it was a good site, the owner apologised for the temp toilets, which she said will be upgraded.
Facilities at main shower block were fine and clean. Staff v friendly. The family room was very good and comfortable with big screen etc. There are strange opening times.
The arcade was closed for most of the day when it was rainy but opened all day on others. The bar opened early on Friday which took us by surprise and was a good atmosphere.
I think that the family room would be good to be open for more - kids understood that they had to be with an adult.
There was a freezer for blocks, which is not stated on website. 2 shops one for basic food, one for camping stuff etc.
All in all a v good site, just need to believe in themselves more!

The four of us (myself, wife and two Children 7 and 4) visited Peak Gateway for two nights on the last weekend in July. We pre-booked and had received a letter in the post with our pitch number on, so with that and the online site map we knew exactly where we would be staying.
The tent pitches are just far enough away from the main complex to provide some seclusion from the entertainment but close enough that a quick walk soon gets you there.
The pitches are spacious (10mx10m) so our Sahara 6 tent fitted on with no problems at all. Most of the other campers parked with their cars in front of the tent, you could fit them down the side but it would have crowded the tents a bit. Even with the cars out front there was plenty of space for the children to run around, play football and throw frisbees. We had the basic no electric hookup pitch.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming and even though it was a busy weekend (only a few pitches empty) they never seemed stressed. Even at what must have been close to maximum capacity the site never seemed busy, people wandered around and made use of the facilities and space without any trouble. The children’s playground saw plenty of use from us, including the play area, 3 trampolines and the bouncy castle and we never had to wait long for the children to have a go on something.
The edge of Ashbourne is within an easy walk, the town centre a bit further away on foot but a quick car drive. We walked to the nearby Lunar Lift Off play area on the Saturday morning and for two hours there was only us and one other family there (four children in total). The place was well equipped and the staff friendly. They served food and drink and we could have easily spent longer there.
On Sunday we had the opportunity to stay longer than the 12 o'clock check out time but decided to be off early so we could visit nearby Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood.
The toilet facilities for the tent area were basic but they were kept clean, were never busy and close to all the pitches. The newer block in the main complex had showers and were better toilets but we've had a lot worst than the ones near the tent pitches. A few people complained about cold water in the showers but that was during the early morning rush period.
The only slight disappointment to our visit was the late arrival on Friday of the group camping directly behind us. Their late arrival meant they were pitching after 9pm and they lit their barbecue after 10pm to eat. Not a major problem but it was disappointing the site didn't enforce their “no loud noise after 9pm” and no barbecues after 10pm. Saturday night was much quieter and on both nights by midnight the site was almost silent.
Overall a very good, friendly family site that we'd recommend and also visit again.
Three word summary - scenery, family, friendly

We booked this site for a short break. We read all the reviews and looked at the website, which looked very slick and gave a good impression. Maybe we have always been lucky in the past. We always try to choose good campsites with high standards, so were disappointed with this one for the following reasons.
Good Point:
Large pitch.
Bad Points:
Loads of road noise from the main road which runs next to the site.
Pitched right next to a builders storage container with piles of rubble outside - why not screen it with a few conifers?
Rubbish skips close by which were overflowing every day.
Closest toilets were on the tent field - these were an utter disgrace. They resembled a 1960's hi de hi portacabin which has never been updated. The floor and walls looked a right mess. Blue paper towels strewn everywhere.
One pot washing sink which was awful. No idea when these got cleaned. We couldn't bring ourselves to use this block.
The main toilet block was ok, but only one pot washing sink for a site which probably had over 100 vans + tents. Both times I looked, this new shower block had toilet paper and rolls strewn in the showers. We didn't use these either.
The nearest elsan point was at this main block - a fair walk when carrying the waste.
The shop is a waste of time. I think we had more provisions in our van than the whole shop had - very basic.
The small children's playground was ok, but was limited to up to 10 year olds. Nothing else on site for slightly older children to do.
The arcade is a waste of time. Again, it looks very slick on the website - very deceiving.
The site definitely has some potential, but the owners need to go the extra mile to get away with charging the prices they charge.
Again, we may have been spoilt with sites we have been to in the past, but we do like good facilities and don't mind paying for them, but we felt short changed with this site and even considered cutting our visit short.
We will never visit this site again, and if you like a quality site, we couldn't recommend it. Very very disappointing to put it mildly. This site spoilt our holiday.

We attended this site as part of a large group (500) on the rally field from Friday - Monday.
On arrival, the rally field was clearly marked and we were happily left to set ourselves up before attending the shop to pay.
The site facilities were excellent - there were special things laid on for us and we really felt well wanted. Things like Kangaroo Boxing.
The toilet facilities in the main block were very good and in addition, some temporary facilities had been provided for us - take note other sites - we will be returning to this site again simply because Peak Gateway went out of their way to welcome us by BUILDING extras.
We also intend to return privately because we loved the site so much (which is unusual because our hobby means that we rarely visit the same place twice).
Easy to find, great location and a good time was had by all. And did I point out all this was for just £11 a night per group, irrespective of the number of kids/gazebos and so on?

Went here with my 9 year old daughter. She absolutely loved it !
The camping, as has been said on a previous review, is a short distance from the main entrance and the caravans which is no bad thing
We were pitched right opposite the `old` loos and pot wash which was very handy for us. They are being updated (so the sign said) but they were clean and the water was always piping hot so no complaints there.
On the 2 days we went there they had an inflatable assault course around the back by the function room/disco which was a fabulous idea as I could sit on the benches reading whilst still keeping an eye on my daughter.
The arcade is just big enough and gives options if its raining but we hardly used it as we were outside. It has an air hockey game (always good fun !), a dance competition mat thingy, a good pinball machine, a pool table and a few racing games and a golf putting game from memory.
Also out back there was a medium sized and a huge sized trampoline and the same size huge one out front. These looked virtually brand new and went down well with everyone who went on them. There were table and benches out front too so you can keep an eye on your little ones.
Didn`t go on the go carts although they looked fun and reasonable prices.
There is also a small play are for the smaller kids out front which looked good.
Just missed the free bus to Ashbourne so drove down which is only about 10 minutes away
The leisure centre swimming pool in Ashbourne is excellent and has an inflatable assault course on a Saturday.
Shop in the main complex in the reception area was O. K. Prices were not too bad but could`ve done with a little more variety
The bar had a good selection of draught beers and their selection of bottled ales was superb. Keenly priced too.
They have a Geo-caching shop too which (unfortunately) I didn`t get chance to look at as when we were leaving it was closed. Next time !
Overall a great experience and we`ll definitely go back

We stayed here from Friday to Sunday the first weekend in July. We were in a touring caravan but we stayed on the tent field as our friends were camping next to us in a tent. We had pitch 22E (the E indicating it had electric hook up - some surrounding pitches did not)- the pitch was great, the pitches are 10mx10m so plenty big enough and as it was a tent field no road running through the middle so loads of room for the children to play.
The washing facilities here are poor, a couple of portable cabins are near the tent fields and the ladies only had 3 toilets and as it was a very busy weekend these did not always appear to be clean.
The main toilet block is a fair walk from the tents and from most tourers and was nice but again not enough toilets or showers and people were waiting each time we visited. The showers are also very hot, in fact too hot for the children and were not adjustable. However the site does recognise this problem and are planning to refurbish the facilities.
This site does not have many water points and only has one elsen and waster disposal point which again was too far away from most pitches.
Negatives over, the site is fantastically located - we walked into the centre of Ashbourne in 30min with 4 small children. The site provide a free shuttle bus to and from Ashbourne on a Saturday which we caught back and it is a great service.
Ashbourne itself has a great park with children's play area, some nice shops and a very tasty fish and chip shop.
The bar was fine with children's games and a disco on the Saturday night. The children's play area is nice with free trampolines for the children. The shop was well stocked with sweets and ice-creams.
A small arcade exists for children and the 'grabber' style games were a prize every time so no tears from the children.
We did not try the cafe or 'pub grub' so can not comment. The bar has a family room with pool, free darts, a football table and a large TV screen with comfy sofas - great if you had poor weather.
The site do allow you to stay after the 12 noon departure time is nobody is coming onto your pitch - they do not charge extra for this which was great as it meant we could stay for most of Sunday.
The site was quiet at night and in the morning which was unexpected as it was very busy.
It seemed a well run site with a good atmosphere just a revamp of the facilities would make it fantastic.

Visited this site last weekend for a 2 night stay, 2 tents, 4 adults, 1 child Only about an hour away, easy to find well sign posted. Good sized pitches on flat ground. Nice welcome on arrival.
New shower block bit of a walk away and first shower I tried only a trickle and cold, second shower hot but the button needs to be pushed back in about every 30 seconds and not enough power to wash my hair.
Good family room with very large TV screen, pool table and darts, an adult bar though we did see children in it. Good play areas both inside and out children well catered for, had a go on the buggies £3 for 3 laps great fun for all the family.
Great free bus into Ashbourne, just make a donation to the charity very worth while cause.
Would I we visit again definitely and we have recommend to friends

We love it here. We've been twice now, 3 tents last year and just 2 this.
The staff and owner are incredible and cannot do enough for you. They even had a look at my engine when I drove in as it was a bit smoky. Lovely people.
The activities for the kids are great, this year we did a treasure hunt type game around the site which was brilliant and they did games in the family room. Last year they had a beach party in the garden at the back of the family room, which was hilarious. They had inflatables and a large paddling pool.
We also went on a family walk but we unfortunately had to take our pushchair. Won't do that again! My husband lost about a stone in sweat pushing it! Would have been fab without that hiccup. There is a park and trampolines for the children to use all the time.
The toilets weren't always as clean as you'd like near the tents (the portacabin ones) but not too bad. I personally didn't use the pot wash but didn't hear any complaints from our friends children. The main shower block is nice.
We've always enjoyed it here and will be booking again for next year soon.
