We booked here for our first ever caravan holiday, we had two days on our own and then picked up my two nieces for the saturday and sunday. We loved it! The site was clean, tidy and the owners were really helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the new shower block was not ready in time for the Easter break, but they were working flat out to try and get it done. It didn't bother us, the old showers were dated, but clean and had plentiful hot water. The on site pub was lovely, and prices were actually cheaper than in our local pub. The function room was large and although it was very crowded on the Saturday night, the entertainment was good and best of all they returned the money we had paid for the tickets up front. They have a cafe, which although we didn't use it it looked popular and very clean. The shop was open at various times throughout the day and was not expensive. There is a no noise policy after midnight and it was adhered to, the girls had a fabulous time and we will definitely be back before the end of the season. It's only twenty minutes from where we live, and an ideal place to take off for a short weekender. The owners should be proud of this site, although we don;t have much experience to compare, we were really impressed with how hard they worked to keep everything right. We will be back!

Just back from spending six days including Easter break here and would recommend this site to anybody young and aged. It was clean and friendly, and although the new showers where not finished they could not apologise enough, but we have all had building work done that has gone over the time. They say would be finished so I would not hold this against them.
The old showers were in use and we found them o.k and clean, water was hot and also they were free, every where else you have to pay. They cater for the young and they keep everywhere spotless. All the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you, and the prices are good for all you get.
So I would like to wish all at Peak Gateway best of luck, and thank them for a great site, we will use it each time we are down their way

Had a really great stay on this site, plenty for the kids to do and a very good bar, our caravan was near to the portaloo's which were fairly clean. The only bad part about our stay was the site is really let down with its toilets and showers they were very old fashioned and not really that clean. A new shower block would make this site brilliant then we would consider coming again.

For our first camp of the year we rang and luckily we, a group of 3 families, booked for 2 nights. We were accompanied to a pitch by a friendly man who showed us where to pitch our tents. The pitches were a little close to one another but there was a field allocated for children to play in at the end of our field. The toilets were portaloos but were clean and toilet rolls were almost always available. Showers were old but quite clean and there was no charge. The shop was small but the staff were helpful. Perhaps a freezer facility for freezer packs would be useful. Looking forward to visiting the site again once the refurbishment has been completed. Cost was good for facilities available. Will definitely visit again.

Just got back from a 2 night stay at this site, enjoyed it lots, granted the toilets and showers need work and extending perhaps, but the present owners have only had the site 16 months and a lot of road building work was needed first. We stayed in a largish group and took two dogs, and I have to say that there was a lovely informal feel to the site although it was fairly quiet while we stayed there. Once facilities have been upgraded this will be a fantastic site, and it's location is perfect for exploring the peak district (and I can recommend the breakfasts!)

Having been to this site several times now, giving them the benefit of the doubt, I have to say some things have improved. The pub and cafe are childrens park are really good, the showers and toilet blocks however and in desperate need of renovation. There is only 3 toilets and sinks in the ladies at the side of the camping field, 1 sink for washing pots with no shelter, nowhere near enough for the numbers on the field. The showers were quite a walk away behind the pub and absolutely awful, waited until I got home! They need to spend some serious money on these facilities during the winter. Yes they improvements for the pub etc are good but the facilities are lacking for campers.

After the weekend at Peak Gateway we are sure we can now be classed as seasoned campers! The site itself was very nice. The leisure facilities were very good with a pub and club on site. There was also things for the kids with a very nice play area and trampolines. There is plenty to do in and around Ashbourne and cycling the Tissington Trail looked to be popular. The toilets and showers near the tent field were rather basic but there was a notice saying that they will be refurbished during the winter months. The site wasn't full and I think it may be a bit cramped if it is full to capacity as we found the pitch sizes not quite big enough. I don't know if it was just a bad weekend but the wind never dropped which made pitching and dismantling the tents very interesting but at least we now know the pegs hold! Overall well worth a visit but make sure you pack the windbreak!

Well this was my first time back to camping for a few years, struggling to find a site at such short notice there was availability at Peak Gateway. I had a feeling that it was not going to be the best campsite in the world, but I was hoping for better than the overflow campsite at German F1 Grand Prix. The toilets were just that in the ladies, 3 loo's 3 wash hand basins and about 18" between then, so once one of the many families were in, there was no hope. These facilities were adjacent to the "field", not the tree lined areas described in the website. The showers were near to the entrance, the furthest point possible for the campers, there were 2 per sex, and filthy, so I waited until I got home. If you are looking for loads of entertainment and kids, although the parents were louder than the kids during the day and night! this is the place for you, the bar pipes music outside, so there was no escaping from it, the Saturday night show was very popular, the field wend quiet, and we managed to save our battery power by just listening to the entertainment, that was when I was thankful we were in the field, if we had gone for hook up we would not have been able to talk to each other. The road was busy, close to the A52 and there was no escaping the planes either. At what I would class as a pricey site, £15 pitch and £2 for our dog, which we had to keep under control and on a lead at all times, children were £1 and there was no control required over them! we won't be going again.

First impressions were good, however, this did not last long. We arrived on a Thursday and found the tent fields to be large, flat and about a third full. We were told we could pitch anywhere as we were on what I assume was the overflow field. The toilets for the tent fields were in an old portacabin and in need of the promised refurbishment this winter. One had a broken lock which is noted in a review from June. This really should have been fixed. There was one outdoor washing up sink and one water tap. These were totally inadequate when the site filled up as it did at the weekend. By Friday night the tent fields where almost completely full and it was apparent that 3 toilets for the ladies would not cope with what was probably over 100 tents. The paper towels ran out and a once a day clean was not really enough for the numbers using them. There were some other toilets but these were about 5 minutes walk away. The showers were also some distance away and these were hot but very rundown, tatty and mildewed and not especially clean. One even had nettles growing through the window! Site rules stated that you must be quiet between 12pm and 8am and most people were but I personally think that 11pm would be better on what is after all a site aimed at families. A lot of people left on Sunday morning and the wheelie bins were full to overflowing from then until Monday morning which was not very nice to see or smell. More bins are clearly needed. There was not much road noise but quite a few noisy aircraft so this site is probably under a flight path. I don't think tent campers are a priority on this site as the facilities for them are some of the worst I have seen. On a positive note, the site is well located.l would recommend Carsington Water and the Tissington Trail but avoid the Heights of Abraham as not worth the money. Ashbourne has plenty of takeaways and a Sainsburys supermarket. I will not return to this site but would go back to the area.

This was our first time camping and we loved the site. There is a bar which is well priced and entertainment. The kids love the park and football nets . The site is fairly big and very tidy. The toilets and showers are cleaned several times a day and was spotless every time I went. Would go back. Just 5 mins from the local town and supermarket. We had breakfast at the cafe which was huge and only £4.50, plus there is a snack bar. Great site thanks
