Have just returned from Peak Gateway after having spent bank holiday weekend there. Site is clean and tidy and the toilets were immaculate.
Owners are very friendly and helpful, shop is ok and bar is great, comfy sofas, pool and darts and children allowed too.
Pitch was large, site not too big ( approx 100 ) so kids could roam free and visit the park on their own.
We will definitely be going again, only thing missing was some chips at the end of the night !

This was the only site in Ashbourne we could get in at short notice, so we were a little dubious about what to expect but we have just spent 4 nights and had a fab time. The site was kept very clean, the shower / toilet block were spotless with plenty of hot water( pressure a bit low) and a free hairdryer.
The views were beautiful and the setting itself was really peaceful even when the field was full.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Peak Gateway with our 2 young children and have had a lovely time! The site consists of static caravans, log cabins, caravans, trailers and tents in lovely surroundings and kept very clean. The field we were allocated had fantastic views over the Derbyshire Dales and completely unspoilt by any houses in view although Ashbourne is only a 5 minute drive away. Each tent/caravan is allocated a pitch number and although our tent is a large 12 man we had plenty of room around us for the children to play. Although the site was nearly full there was a feeling of space and the owner clearly has not been 'greedy' during peak times and crammed loads of tents in.
The children's play area was a real bonus (we hardly saw our 2) and with the swipe car barrier in operation we felt that they were completely safe to explore the site on their own.
The toilets, pot wash and freezer near the tent field was very adequate, however the new toilets and showers near the main entrance were to a very high standard and kept immaculate.
The friendly bar on site with an adults only room and family room was very reasonably priced and next to the children's play area.
Overall this site was very reasonably priced for the facilities, cleanliness and pitch sizes and we will definitely be returning!

We have just returned from our camping weekend at Peak Gateway and the site was fantastic. We had an electric hook up tent, the ground was level and you get a very generous size pitch - ours is a 3 bedroom tent and we had plenty of space. The views are absolutely fantastic, it did help that the weather was good all weekend. The facilities are clean and in good working order, showers and toilets are spacious, spotless, water's hot. There's a children's play area which my daughter loved, I would say suits children of 3 years and over. There is a bar although we didn't try it with a beer garden outside next to the children's playground so you can keep an eye on the kids and enjoy a cool beer. We will definitely be returning again at some stage.

Just returned from a weekend at peak gateway and was really impressed with the facilities.
The pitches were large, well maintained and spacious, lots of areas for the kids to play safely in around the fields nearby. The site was not very busy which we liked but did lack atmosphere so I would recommend coming with friends!
Shower blocks were excellent, warm, clean and not a long hike to get to.
The shop was adequate stocking essential items however the pub is only open for 3 hours on a Friday and Saturday evening only which was a little disappointing. Also as it rained most of the day one day a business opportunity missed.

Firstly I must say that to book this site was quite difficult, they have no website. I tried from last summer and it said 'website under construction' which I believe it still does. Also rang several times with no answer. However after booking and upon arrival there is a barrier with a phone number to ring, upon doing this a lady came to us gave us a barrier card and pitch number with site plan.
We weren't given details of where water, refuse. Toilets etc were but they were not hard to find. The pitch was of a good size and level too. The site was fairly quiet but this perhaps because of the time of year but I felt it lacked atmosphere. It did have a few old and tatty buildings on the grounds and I found the toilets and showers to be quite a walk from the pitch.
We were disappointed with the park, firstly the weekend we were there it was locked with no reason - and a notice saying under 10's only. We have children over the age of 10 so they were very disappointed and I felt we should have been told this when we booked. The pot wash area was locked, and everything else was closed apart from the bar which was open from 8pm but we didn't try this so can't comment.
I think this campsite is expensive compared to other sites we have visted in Ashbourne.

Peak Gateway is a mixed site of very well maintained statics, touring caravans on hardstanding pitches and tents. The tent area consisted of four large fenced areas which is non-EHU, of which the pitches are numbered and you are allocated a particular pitch when booking. The site is accessed through a barrier of which the barrier card is sent through the post after booking.
Despite camping over the bank holiday weekend it wasn't too busy and and there was plenty of space between pitches and the ground was level.
There is a male and female toilet block near the camping field with a washing up room and an outside tap for drinking water, however the showers are situated a little walk from the field near the main facilities.
Although the showers and toilets were clean and spacious, the showers are a push button type and I have to say that when I showered one morning about 9.00am along with everyone else at the time, they were hardly lukewarm. However when my friend showered earlier at 7.30am they had been hot, therefore they appear dependant on how many users are showering at the same time.
There is a good play area for the kids of all different ages including a trampoline.
There is also a small clubhouse, which although we didn't use, the guys did have a well deserved pint in there after setting up the tents. It had a look of a converted scout hut which was very quaint, they were playing music for the kids and had them involved in a game of musical chairs, so fun stuff if that's what you are after.
Apparently there is a shop on site although it wasn't open while we were there and we ended up using shops in Ashbourne(less than 5 mins away) and Derby(about 20 mins away)
Overall Peak Gateway was a pleasant and clean site with the biggest bonus being that; despite the rain of the summer and during the weekend there was no evidence of mud or soggy ground. Therefore it appears to have excellent drainage.
A recommended site but don't expect power showers!

This was our first camping experience with our kids (aged 10 & 8) so we can't compare to other sites but we had a fantastic time! The site was spotless and well marked out. The portacabin was just a few yards away with the essential loos and pot wash area, whilst the new shower block was located in the main building only a short walk. The showers were clean and free, never had to queue and even had a free hairdryer! The inn was closed over the weekend but the function room was open and free to get in (not £3 as stated in previous reviews). The couple who run the site are friendly and very hardworking - they do the whole thing by themselves! The site is well located with local attractions such as Tissington cycle trail and Carsington Water only a few minutes drive away along with the town of Ashbourne and it's many pubs. We would definitely recommend this site!

The site over the last couple of years has undergone great changes since the new owners took over. The pitches are adequate. They have a shop which is not open for long, a clubhouse and a function room and a place to get food at selected times. The showers etc are again adequate. They are clean but shower hot water lasts for just a short period.
There is a very nice pub about 20 min walk with nice food. Ashbourne is just a short drive and very quaint.
I did like the site because the owners are improving as they can afford it. I decided to book to see how after a year what improvements they have done. I was about to book this next bank holiday including 5th May, but was told that the management have decided that they are charging £100 for that weekend. However if you are a family it may be worth a visit.

We liked the pitch so much that we now have our tourer pitched there annually. The kids love the play area, Bubbles is great for them ( bring change), the pub looks very inviting, but unfortunately the boys are usually so pooped after playing and running around we have yet to have a drink there.
The showers are a little slow and underpowered, but the facilities are being improved as I type, lots of money being spent on it, more for a relaxing break/base camp.
