July 2004 We've been here 5 times so far. First in a tent then we upgraded to a caravan. We like the way you could pitch anywhwere you wanted. The shop sold a few basic things like milk, tea, sugar, sweets, bacon and eggs, if you ran out. Toilets were basic but clean and flush so that's all that's needed. Didn't try the showers but I had a nose. I used the washing machine and tumble dryer on one occasion which was helpful. Friendly staff is on hand to help (when I thought I'd broke the washing machine!!) Good site, will be going back this year, that's for sure.

September 2004 This was our first site ever visited and we have returned many times,The site is very clean and tidy and has a excellent atmosphere. The facilities are very good and are maybe a little dated but are always clean. Our kids (7 & 3) always seem happy even without there being a play area. There always seems plenty of room to pitch without being crowded and is a good base for exploring the area. Definately worth a visit.

August 2004 Went to gateway for short weekend on the 6th,7th,and 8th of aug 2004. The weather was brill, just before the monsoon week. The toilets and showers are very basic but clean. There is a tv room next to the bar and there is large club room at the weekends (high season only). A small shop is there as well, where the staff were pleasant and helpful. I did`nt see a park for the kids though, but overall we enjoyed our stay.

August 2004 Following our visit to this site we were a little dissapointed, The main reason for this was the conditoin of the toilets and showers, these are in need of refurbishing, however the site its self was in a good location and the staff were very helpful.

August 2004 Have bee to Gateway many times and it was the first caravan site we ever tried in sept 2003 , the staff are very helpful toilets/showers always seem clean , the pub on site is a nice touch but it can get a little noisey when entertainment is on and sometimes the kids on site seem to run a bit wild around other peoples caravans , we do like gateway though it is a nice break there, and theres lots of nearby attractions like carsington water and nice resturants in Ashbourne as well.

October 2003 We visited Gateway during October, just as the trees were changing colour, as part of Ant's Birthday Bash, Uk Camp Site Meet. What a lovely quiet site with good amenities. This was indeed a very good site with plenty of space between the caravans/tents. A bit chilly at this time of year but we soon warmed up in the very cosy bar!

25/25 June 04 Our first camping trip, we booked a few days earlier and was welcomed on site with our option to pitch our tent where we liked. Smallshop on site that I felt could be open after 8pm but soon discovered if you asked at the bar the staff would nip next door and get what you needed, my 2 kids had ice creams at 9pm. Toilet block & wash rooms good never came upon having to wait to use them, play room for the kids, if anything it lacked an outdoor play area.
Would visit again dispite a day of constant rain.

May bank holiday 2004 Well we've just returned from Gateway today and I must say how impressed with the site we all were. OK the showers and toilets may need a little sprucing up, but they were cleaned regularly by Ashbournes answer to Robbie Williams (check out his singing), and all the staff from the reception to the bar staff were friendly and polite. Overall a very relaxing 3 days and would definately make the short trip from Derby up the A52 again.

May 2004 Very pleasant site, clean toilets and showers, however you do have to pay for the showers. Grass pitches and hard standing. Nice bar. There is a function room that is used for parties and can be a bit noisy but would stay again.

Easter 2004 Although our stay was cut short due to poorly kids, we still had a great time. The site was smaller than I thought it would be, but they had all the facilities we wanted. We were greeted very well all information about what was going on on site was given to us and we were directed as to where to pitch our tent. Plenty of room to pitch and to put the trailer. The toilets and showers were clean. They even have disabled toilets. (although the ground is uneven and it would be hard going to push a wheelchair but never the less) The shop was very basic not much variety but did stock essentials in case. They have a games room with pool table and table tennis etc for kids. Then there is the bar and function room with entertainment, which was excellent. Good value for money this site.
