The staff here were friendly and helpful and the tent field was flat and in good condition. The children's play area was great and the on-site bar was pretty good. Entertainment provided on Saturday was great for the children.

Negatives have been mentioned by previous reviewers:

Washing up water always cold, toilet facilities for tent field insufficient and the generator supplying electric to the tent field went off at night, giving un concerns on the efficiency of our fridge!

We walked into Ashbourne via a footpath which took about 30 minutes, but it is not possible to cycle anywhere directly from the site.

Overall though, a good site and we will almost certainly return.

The plot was OK and the ground was flat but we were very close to our neighbours and also has the dulcet sounds of a generator to sing us to sleep. Biggest problem though were the toilet facilities which were inadequate for the number of people they were meant to be catering for. The 'extra' facilities were substandard and poorly maintained and simply were not big enough with only 2 toilets and sinks. The main facilities were a long walk away and whilst better were still limited and poorly designed. For a campsite of this site only 4 showers (for the men) simply isn’t enough and there were so poorly designed that the water remains from the previous persons shower and doesn't drain. Washing up was also a problem as there were only two sinks with limited hot water resulting in long queues and unsatisfactory dishwashing. There was also nowhere to wash clothes

Saving graces were the children's which was very popular and the library which is a great idea.

Just got back from the my first visit the Peak Gateway.

Overall it is a nice site but I did feel it was quite over priced for a bank holiday at £30/night

Pro's:

Nice area

Friendly Staff

South of Ashborne so avoid traffic going through the town when travelling North on a Fridy night!

Good Showers

Green and Leafy site

Con's:

Expensive

Pot wash water often cold except at 7am!

Pub not open on the sunday night of a bank holiday! (the function room was open, but it was a little Phoenix nights if you know what I mean!, we went back to the tents!)

There is a Generator in the camping field which powers the EHU points. This is quiet but noticeable, must be annoying if camping close to it.

Also 'The Horns' pub is Ashborne town centre was very tasty and good value!

Just had a 3 day stay at this camp site, a very friendly and helpful staff. A very nice clean camping area. We arrived on the back end of the may bank holiday so the site was quiet. The main toilet and shower area was by the main reception. There was an additional toilet and pot wash area closer to the camping area, but by the second day only the ladies toilet was open, and there was no hot water in the pot wash area

Have just visited this site and I must admit that I was disappointed. We were unfortunate to be camped next to the generator which was noisy. The bins also in the same area were literally overflowing by the Sunday morning, by the Monday morning there was bags of rubbish all over the floor. Whilst I appreciate that it was a Bank Holiday, surely the owners would realise that as the tent area was nearly full to capacity, that a lot of rubbish would be generated and additional bins would be required.

The toilets near to the tent area were pretty dire, there was no where to put anything ie. Shelving or hooks., and honestly they could of done with a good scrub. The main toilet and shower facilities (incidentally near to the caravan and lodges area) were ok.

The washing up area was used only once as there was no hot water (had to boil a kettle in tent) and was not the cleanest of places (this was in part because of campers not cleaning up after themselves, but there was rust around sink area, again no where to put anything. There was a lot of moaning about the lack of hot water and awful toilets by other campers.

It rained heavily on Saturday, but the ground drained very well, but high winds on the Sunday made you realise just how much hedges, etc, are needed to protect tent, I heard that at least 3 units had to pack up after tent coming down.

There is a pub on site but we didn't use. On Sunday the owners had organised a Beach Party, with a free bouncy castle, but other activities ranged from £ to ££. The site owners were nice. The children's playground was apparently for under 10's (though we were not warned about this until we saw notice on fence).

There are signs requesting that speed limits be kept to 10 mph, but was really concerned about the speed of some cars on site, as there were a lot of kids on bikes.

There appeared to be a lot of caravans permanently sited, and they seemed to have the better facilities. Tent area was very crowded in parts (I even saw three tents where their guide ropes were touching, though this maybe because they were friends, but even then, surely this is a fire hazard?

Would not use this site again.

Just came home from two nights camping in a tent at this site with my girlfriend. We had booked to stay for four nights but returned home early due to it being freezing and almost constantly raining.

About the campsite, I think the £25 we paid for the Easter nights for non electric is very expensive - the bar area is nice however not very big - food smelt and looked nice however didn't eat in it. Didn't really look in the shop and the geocachers shop wasn't open. -

The facilities on the actual camping area, well the toilet facilities next to the tented area is port-a-cabin style and not the best - there is however newer facilities with showers to the rear of the bar area, a bit of walk in the fresh morning air for a shower really and I can imagine would get very busy and dirt in busy periods.

There are only I think around 40 pitches for tents (non electric) and maybe the same for electric pitches, this campsite is mainly aimed at caravans and statics but the staff were on hand when we arrived to make sure we felt welcome, maybe this was because it was empty when we arrived or just their friendliness? The staff are very very friendly and the owner bob very nice and helpful.

There isn't anything within walking distance of the site so a car is essential for getting around but I think this is probably the same when stopping around this area.

Would I return to this campsite again? Possibly!

Just came back from a weekend away here and I have to say it is the most friendliest of places. The owners were very friendly and helpful nothing was to much for them.

The showers and toilet block were clean and spacious the water was hot to, nothing worse than having a cold shower but here was lovely.

The bar was open and have to say again very friendly and the kids welcome, meals reasonable priced about 3.00 pound each and nice portions. They had mulled wine on tap and have to say I did get the taste for it lol. Had a nice games room for the kids and the park is right outside the bar so you can sit in peace with drink while kids play.

The pitches were of good sizes and although it rained at times the site was hardly wet. Will definitely be going here again

We have just returned from Peak Gateway after a lovely weekend. This is the nicest site we have been to this year. The owners & their children were lovely & helpful.

The site was spacious & well maintained.

Toilets & showers were brilliant size, clean & warm.

Playground was brill & we had to keep dragging our girls away. It suits all ages & has seating nearby for you to relax while watching your kids.

The bar area was clean, warm & very family friendly. Food & drink were reasonable.

I can't say enough about how helpful & friendly the owners were. Our caravan came of the towball on our way out & before we were out of the car the owner was there to help us!

Thank you for a lovely weekend!

Totally agree with the last review, this is a large clean modern site with big flat pitches, I didn't use the motor mover and reversed in which is something for me who cant reverse to save my life, modern bar and shop and on the edge of the Peak District. Dont worry about them not having a website trust the reviews.

Stayed for a weekend and they charged £20 per night, well worth it. An assault course bouncy castle for the kids and I sat and read a book from the shop library on the clean modern tables just outside the bar. Lovely lady on reception which is always nice on your arrival to a new site. Key card barrier which is a must for any modern site. Cant fault the site and will return again.

Nice enough site, but let itself down with hot water issues - particularly in the wash pots room - two sinks not really enough, and often had to wait up to 30 mins for any hot water at all.

Shower blocks clean, but design issue means that mop needed to be used regularly and often the 'dry' area was wetter than the 'wet' area.

Shame no gazebos are allowed.

On-site pub friendly, shop had the basics, play area was adequate (but kids got absolutely filthy from the rubber on the floor - but then kids always get filthy so not really an issue!)

Ashbourne nearby with a couple of supermarkets and many shops / pubs and a market. Lots of lovely walks close by - gorgeous scenery. Leisure centre has odd opening hours / swimming times so check before you go if you want to go swimming!
