We needed a site in this area in order to meet up with friends and this one seemed to fit the bill. Fundamentally however I have to agree with many other reviewers; this site is simply overpriced. Most of the site is given over to statics and seasonals, with the touring pitch we had slotted into a crowded area at the far end of the site. Although the site had plenty of facilities many of the finer details seemed to have been missed, with strange policies in place such as closing most of the loos at night. Although it was the Easter weekend much of the site felt as though it had only just reopened after a long 'hibernation'.
Ashbourne is a lovely Town, well worth a visit, but we will use a different site next time we come this way.

My wife and I recently stayed at Peak Gateway to enjoy our new Motorhome. We had a lovely weekend and the staff on the site couldn't do enough for us, we had initially only planned a single night but extended our stay to 2 nights. The helpful young lady on reception allowed us to change pitch as our initial pitch was not level and we had no levelling ramps (would suggest a must). The facilities were always spotless and we couldn't fault them all weekend.
There is an on site pub 'The Outside Inn', we did not try this, but it look very clean and tidy. There are loads of things for children such as an outside play area and arcade, luckily as we are old there were no children around to spoil our peace.
It is a lovely walk down into Ashbourne, we walked via the road and there are paths almost all the way. There is a foot path over the fields but it was a bit too wet and muddy when we were there.
When we stayed there was a discounted rate of £15 per night (including Electric) this was good value, however for us the usual price £27 per night is more than we like to pay.
Overall a great site for location and out of season we found it really suited our needs.

My partner and I visited Peak Gateway for our second ever, and first trip without the children. We stayed for 4 nights on a 4 for 3 nights offer so it was a good price.
Upon arriving, we were given a swipe card for the entry/exit barriers and given a map to our pitch, we drove down to the pitch which whilst it is fairly sized, the pitches aren't marked brilliantly so be careful to pitch where you're supposed to.
The site has A LOT of statics/holiday cabins but they are set away from the tent field and no bother to anybody. The main tent field is split in to 4 sections, around half pitches have EHU (We opted to not have EHU). On the edge of the tent fields there is wooden cabin which has male and female toilets in which were immaculately clean at all times. It also has a covered patio area which has two washing up sinks on it, the fresh drinking water tap and a freezer for ice packs.
There is a small shop on site which has basic essentials and some camping equipment, all reasonably priced. They have a breakfast cafe and tea room on site which we didn't use and also a pub/bar/restaurant which was reasonably priced and the staff were friendly.
Shower facilities are closed at 10pm-6am but are free and clean. You cannot control the temperature and they were a little too hot for my liking but nothing too bad.
There is a small arcade on site with couple of pool tables, air hockey, dance machine and a few arcade machines. Good fun and reasonably priced.
They have a children's playground on site which seemed like the kids playing on it enjoyed.
They also have some tennis courts which you can hire use of but we didn't do this so have no idea on prices.
Nearby (5-10 minute drive/30 minute walk) is the town of Ashbourne which is a lovely little town, a few pubs/restaurants/chip shops and some nice little shops as well as a Sainsbury's for anything you may have forgotten.
In summary, Peak Gateway is a nice site. It is a sort of leisure club but feels like a quiet little camp site once you are on it. We would return again if we wanted a quick local break.

Had a wonderful weekend again at Peak Gateway Ashbourne. Our third visit. The staff are all very friendly. We had a pitch that was quite a distance from the electric hook-up point and on checking in straight away we were asked if we needed an extra cable for this and as we did were given the loan of one by them.
The club had entertainment on during the evening and on the Saturday night while in there the heavens opened and the rain was not going to stop and the staff actually dropped people off at their pitch in the site bus! Brilliant!
Cannot wait to go again.

Spent a nice relaxing weekend at Peak Gateway with my 3 children (15, 9 & 3!). First time visitor so I guess you are always a little wary of what to expect. I shouldn't have been though.
What a lovely site, nice, big camping pitches that leave plenty of space between 'neighbours'. It was a last minute decision to go and my small 4 man tent occupied with 1 dad and 3 children was a source of amusement for those with more 'space'. It didn't spoil the weekend though, the 3 year old loved the playground (which looks relatively new), as did the 9 year old. The teenager was happy to go in the games room and enjoy the open space that was available for all to use for ball games; frisbee etc etc.
The facilities were lovely and clean though the one down side is that the showers are near the main reception, which is a 5 minute walk from the camping part of the site. Only a minor issue though, I didn't mind the walk. The staff are exemplary, very friendly and helpful; offering suggestions for things to see and do in the area. Additional activities I wasn't expecting included clay pigeon shooting and buggy rides - great fun, though you may have to queue. Access to the site is simple, the town of Ashbourne is lovely and quite a quirky little place to visit.
Overall a really good site, in fact I've booked to take the children (4 of them this time) again over the august bank holiday. This time I will prepare better and take the 8 man tent. If anyone plans on going over the same weekend, I'll be the stressed looking dad with 4 children trying to pitch an 8 man tent, the term herding cats springs to mind. Oh yes one final point, the outside inn offers quite an extensive range of quality whiskeys, much to my satisfaction.

Fantastic camp site. Facilities were great. Playground fab. Felt very safe there for the kids. Tent pitches v roomy lots of entertainment on. Showers nice and hot. Toilets clean.
Only problem we had was with a gaggle of teenage girls at 11. 30 pm walking past our tent screaming and shouting. Not great with a baby asleep! No probs second night though after telling them to be quiet :) shame they didn't observe the no noise policy from 9. 30!

Stayed on Peak Gateway over the bank holiday weekend, the pitch was level hard standing the electric hookup was within easy reach of our pitch but I did see one fellow who had to join two cables together to reach his van. The water was also quite a distance from the van as was the elsan point. When we went to find out where the showers/toilet block were situated the gents was locked. When I went back later on that night it was open with 3 showers if I can remember rightly, there was also another toilet with 1 shower inside which was also sometimes locked. The on site pub was ok with a separate kids room, there was also another function room which we went to on the Sunday as they had a sort of BBq event with loads of free bouncy castles and slides which were great for the kids. There's a minibus service that takes you into Ashbourne 2/3 times a day which was handy, we missed the return and had to walk back but beware it is very hilly. Overall we enjoyed the stay but at £100 for 3 nights I think it was a little expensive.

Our second visit to this campsite, as we use it to visit Alton Towers just twenty minutes drive away.
The service was exemplary- really personal and cheery. The pitch size for non electric is really good for a large tent with plenty of room either side. Flat pitch and short walk to NEW toilet block in camping area. Always clean and with a handy freezer chest for re-freezing ice blocks.
The toilet block has been the source of criticism from pre 2012 campers so take note- they have responded!
Shuttle bus into town, bouncy castle when weather good and nice pub with large area for pool, table football, projector TV. Games arcade room for kids.
Recommended!

A very warm welcome from the reception staff started the break well. We have stayed at this site three times now and the facilities for touring vans are ok.
The only things I would like to see change are that the facilities block is a considerable distance from the touring area,
The mains hook up for pitches 110 & 111 are more than the normal maximum of 25 meters (ie you need more than one hook up lead!) and the water point (only 1!) is too far from the pitches.
Its a nice site, the greeting was warm and sincere but just a few minor adjustments could make this site much better.
Overall, I would return.

Lovely view across the fields/hill from our pitch.
The site is easy to find and only a few miles out of Ashbourne. The site appears to be very child friendly and there were a lot of statics and family groups on site, there were plenty of places for children to play and equipment provided.
Although not to our taste there is evening entertainment and a 'club style' atmosphere. You could purchase take away meals, groceries and sundries on site.
The toilet facilities were quite aged and not as clean as they might be, although having witnessed the behaviour of other people on site in the toilet areas this may well not be the fault of the site owners. The 'to be refurbished' sign that people have previously spoken of regarding the 2nd toilet block is still there, so this would seem not to be a project that there is any urgency on. It certainly needs it though.
It was quite noisy when we were there, a lot of it coming from the 'clubhouse'.
It is not a site we would use again, but it may well suit families who like an 'on site' break with entertainment provided.
