We stayed for 2 nights. Facilities were adequate and clean. Everything is well sign posted and clear. The scenery was amazing.
Disappointed that the owners/managers threw water on some of the campfires still lit after 11pm. They could have asked politely for them to have been put out.
Campsite was noisy an locals walking home from the pub past the campsite were singing and shouting.
For the scenery alone it is still worth going!

Had one of our best holidays ever here! This site is a well hidden piece of heaven. No hook-ups, no shop, no horrid sky dishes, no clubhouse and no video arcades, just portacabin toilets and campfires! Do not come here if you want entertainment or a swimming pool it is not a holiday park. Red Squirrel is a campsite as a campsite should be. My husband and I spent over a week here with our two children and fell in love with the place. The kids loved playing in the stream and toasting marshmallows on the fire and we snuggled round it until bedtime(no later than eleven!)
The surrounding area is stunning with plenty of visiting or walking to do. There is plenty of room (even for our huge tent!) and pitches feel very private once the sun goes down and the only light is from your fire. Not a bad pub down the road although one barman was rather rude which put us off. We preferred the comfort of our fire and a few beers anyway and the fire is the only way to clear the midges! As long as you like very basic camping you will love it here, just take plenty repellant! There are fewer and fewer sites like this left and it should stay just as it is, we shall certainly return many times!

We stayed here for two nights in some of the wettest weather you could imagine! The site is very quaint, smattered with trees and bordered by the powerful River Coe, with the high peaks of Glencoe all around commanding your attention (when not covered in cloud). Two red deer sauntered around the site within yards of us while we were there!
The natural surroundings are the big plus for this site. Its proximity to the Clachaig - a fantastic climbers' pub just 10 minutes walk away - is another bonus. The fact that open fires are allowed (in controlled areas) is also good.
The down side is the cost. Red Squirrel is very expensive for what it is. I know it's not in the spirit of camping but you could stay literally around the corner at the Glencoe Youth Hostel for only twice the price of the campsite and have a comfy bed, free hot showers, the same views and no midges!
The facilities were limited and all crowded into a roughly central area. The toilets and showers - of which there were only about half a dozen of each - were located in brightly painted portakabins, but the showers weren't even free - a bit cheeky given the high pitching fees. It would have been handy and very easy to provide rubbish points at various places around the site rather than in just once central area quite a way from most of the pitching areas. There was no site shop either but instead a very small tourist info hut.
The Red Squirrel site is in a great outdoors location but is in my opinion very overpriced and only redeemed by its surroundings rather than facilities.

We stayed at this fantastic site for only 2 days (on our way to Skye horrid place could have stayed at red squirrel longer) it as got to be one of the nicest sites I have ever stayed at I think it is a bit expensive but the views and tranquility more than make up for it. Showers and toilets very clean and tidy and the owners are very nice great pub grub down the road and a beautiful lake with great views 5 mins away. Midgies bit of a pain ate me alive but avon skin so soft works a treat. I would recommend this site to anyone plenty of places to pitch but not much room for great big tents

I stayed here for 2 nights with my 8 year old daughter and loved the place. The prices suited our situation at fifteen pounds for the two nights, however if my wife and 13 year old daughter had joined us it would have cost forty three pounds! Which considering the basic facilities on offer would have been hard to swallow. But hey, the scenery surrounding the site is simply incredible, as is the pain inflicted by the midgies! Yin and yang you see, everything comes with a price :-) The nearby village of Glencoe is everything you would expect it to be, historic, peaceful, friendly and rainy! (Not all the time of course) The Glencoe folk museum is only a couple of quid to visit and is steeped in interesting paraphernalia. The massacre room is poignant and well worth a visit. Getting back to the campsite itself, I found that the 11 o'clock silence rule was pretty much unanimously observed, and there is a strong sense of camaraderie between the campers, you know, a lot of nodding and smiling going on. The staff were pleasant enough and offered useful advice on where the best spots for firewood were situated although my pathetic attempts at constructing a fire with damp wood and failing miserably were greeted with an alarmingly disgusted and disappointed look from my wee lassie, I don't think she'll ever get over the shame, nor will I for that matter. I would recommend this site for a couple of nights but if you're on a tight budget, sneak away and leave some of the family at home because it could cost a small fortune if there's more than two of you and you stay for a few nights! But I enjoyed my stay thoroughly and wouldn't hesitate to return.

I and a group of fellow bikers visited this site on the way to the Isle of Sky in June. It's a fantastic location by the riverside in a lightly wooded area. There's a surprisingly good pub half a mile or so up the road, although it was very busy when we were there! They also allow fires until 11pm which is really great. The real down side to this site is the facilities, which are pretty basic to say the least. It's not clear where ALL the toilets are, there are 3 more gents toilets in with the showers which I didn't realise until later. There are 2 portaloos for both sexes and I thought these were the only toilets for the whole site! And the toilets and basins are pretty disgusting, in fact I haven't seen worse. That all said if you're prepared for this and don't mind very basic amenities, or have your own, then you'll be fine and I don't think you'll get a better location.

On arrival we were given a friendly welcome by the owners. Having paid our fee for the night we settled for a lovely pitch next to the trees and river. We spotted deer which were down drinking from the river, otter and some water rats. We also had a great time watching the fish jumping out of the water to catch insects. The facilities although basic were spotless, the toilets and hot showers cleaned daily. The showers cost just 50p for five minutes and the 50p hairdryer although not very powerful did the job. Other campers, including on our visit the hairy bikers, were extremely friendly but respected each others privacy. The shop in the village was only a 15 minute walk away and was very reasonably priced. The pub was 10 minutes in the opposite direction again a very warm welcome given. We stayed at this campsite for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our first camping experience. We will definitely be back. Beware of the midges. However a good camp fire and using Avon Skin So Soft spray body oil (Green Bottle) works a treat.

We stayed at this campsite for two nights and we were pretty much the only ones there, it's hard to tell how many people are there as your pitch is very secluded, just what we wanted. When we arrived we were spoilt for choice we could set up there, there or what about there in the end we chose a lovely spot down by the river in amongst the trees with the huge hills in front of us a lovely sight when you open your tent door in the morning. The midges were bad but then they are everywhere they do sell midge repellent if you have forgotten yours get a fire going and create some smoke that will put them off slightly. The village of Glen Coe is not far away and they do have a shop and post office so the fact that the campsite doesn't have a shop is not an issue. The pub is a gentle scenic 15 minute walk and serves local ales,a huge variety of whiskeys and food if youv'e had enough of corned beef hash. There is a nice short walk that starts just before the pub that goes through the wood and follows the river Coe. Facilities are good at the campsite they are clean there are two showers that are fifty pence although it says you get 5 minutes it seems adequate amount of time to do what you need to do, they are in a porta cabin but so what,if you want luxuries maybe you should book into a hotel.

I have camped at this site more times than I can remember, alhough basic it is great for backpackers and climbers. You can have a campfire until 11pm when it must be put out, reason being that the site is used a lot by climbers and walkers who usually want a good nights sleep and an early rise. The site is now very popular with others who if allowed would be having a drink and singsong into the small hours, nothing wrong with that except no one gets to sleep. I have had a bucket of water douse my fire several times when I wanted to party and the warden is very understanding as he pours on the water. Great site and great pub down the road. I am on the site every hogmaney Hail, rain and snow. Beware the midgies May to Sept
