My favourite, favourite campsite in Scotland. The owners are so welcoming and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. We had an amazing view by the river and the kids played in the river all day. We didn't leave the campsite all weekend, we made our own entertainment and enjoyed the best views in the whole wide world.

We didn't use the toilet facilities as we always take our own luggable loo, so can't comment on them. The kids thoroughly enjoyed their time here and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Well done to the owners for giving us one of the best family memories ever!

Just back from Red Squirrel. We had a fab time. We were a bit apprehensive when we first arrived having seen the toilet block and found it difficult to get a decent spot to pitch our tent but our worries soon disappeared.
The owner was pleasant and helpful and advised us to pitch beside the river at the far end of campsite. Unfortunately we couldn't take the car right to the site which almost put us off but we went to check it out and discovered the best pitch of all. Most of the ground is quite rocky but the pitch we discovered was perfect. Not all pitches have campfires and you can't just light fires anywhere. We were lucky enough to get an area where a campfire had previously been set up. The toilets may not look great but they are spotlessly clean.
The site is huge and so the toilets were very far from where we pitched the tent. An additional toilet block would be useful. The village of Glencoe is about 20 minutes walk and the pub is about 10 minutes walk from the campsite (this of course depends on fast you walk:)
There is a good shop and a post office in the village and the walk is very pleasant providing it's not raining! There is a great atmosphere in the pub. The barman even allowed me to test the local ale before buying. There is usually live music on a Saturday night and even though we never witnessed it ourselves, I was advised by one visitor that it was pretty good. One of my favourite things about the pub is it serves great food and also allows dogs. Great combination providing you are a dog lover.
Only down side is we could not stay longer. Great site!

Well the location and views speak for themselves. This campsite is situated in a great location. Unfortunately the facilities could be better I think the toilet block has been there for centuries! But it all adds to the fun.

The Clachaig Inn just down the road is a fantastic pub with good entertainment.

Good thing about this campsite is that you can light a fire, keep your beers cool in the river and enjoy a memorable walk back from the pub in the pitch black with several other drunk people.

1 major issue - Midges!

This site has outstanding views of the mountains and is 1.5 miles from Glen Coe village or 0.5 miles from the A82 using the Clachaig Inn turning. Due to staff shortages, the reception hut was closed on arrival and fees collected later in the evening by the owner.

Signs at the entrance say all campfires and barbecues must be put out at 11pm and this is enforced by the owner with a watering can! Best take some wood as the site's woodpile soon dwindles as people arrive.

Silence is required from 11pm until 7am. Quiet was observed until the pub-goers came back at 1am and took an hour or so to go to bed!

There are no electric hook-ups so there is no TV or music to be heard. Bliss!

The ground is concrete-tough, plastic pegs work much better than steel as they flex through the stony ground. In April, the midgies aren't a problem, but the direction of the wind is somewhat of a 'roulette' and campers are best in low tents.

The toilets and showers are well-used but very clean and cared for. Dish and clothes washing can be done next to the toilet facilities but as there are only two sinks there can be a short wait. Several times during the day the owner came around litter picking and the site is obviously very well maintained.

There's a shop in Glen Coe village and some in Ballachulish 4 miles away but the revelation was the Glen Coe filling station which sold loads of useful stuff.

It's how camping used to be, kept in extremely good order with friendly, helpful owners and fantastic views which, in April were being filmed from helicopter for the new Harry Potter film. Hogwarts landscape for £7.50 per night!

This was my rude awakening on my End to End trip! I'd heard people talk about the legendary midge, and kind of snubbed the hype and thought 'ah it's only a gnat'. NO! It's a rotweiller with wings! Within seconds of getting out of the car, I was black with them. I used my Avon SSS, but it was raining - which not only washed it off, but also washed it into my eyes, and my god that stuff stings! The first pitch I chose wouldn't allow a tent peg more that 1' into the ground, so after a bit of cursing, I picked up the nylon mass and ran through to another location, midges in hot pursuit. I hurriedly put up my tent, and jumped inside, watching through the noseeum mesh as the winged demons flitted around in the porch. I found the solution.Keep moving! Went for a walk to the legendary inn nearby and had a great, well priced meal. The scenery was breathtaking, and a trip to the visitor centre was worthwhile. One comment - Glen Coe in the morning sun - nothing short of breathtaking! Wasn't too impressed with the shower facilities - no way I was going to expose my whole body to the midges anyway! Staff were very friendly and helpful, but next time I shall come armed with a midge net, and firewood! Well worth a visit, just be prepared!

This is a campsite how all campsites should be. We arrived with our dog and were made very welcome by the warden. He told us to go and find a spot to camp and he will come and find us later to pay.

We pitched next to a stream, the area is very well maintained so the pitches are level and grassed. There are fire areas dotted around so you can pitch your tent close to one of them. We had a BBQ next to our tent too. Keep the fires alight to keep them midges at bay - you will soon realise how bad they can get when the fire goes out. The sun going down seems to be when they are at their worse. Avon Skin So Soft (applied heavily seems to work too - although you smell like a granny).

Facilities are basic but clean. There are water taps all around the camp which is good. You can also park your car pretty much next to your spot which can save any lugging your stuff.

Make sure you but some fire wood on your way as there is none around.

There are a range of people staying here - all friendly. We even had some neds (chavs) staying next to us, who (I think) stayed up all night) but they obeyed by the rules of fires out at 11 and silence. The only reason I think they were up all night is they had a tenant's at 6am. Breakfast!

All in all an excellent site - in my top 5!

This is a proper campsite with lots of pitches dotted around trees, when we arrived we were told were everything was and the rules about fires etc

We could pitch anywhere there was grass as long as our tent fitted!

Don't understand why some people moan about the price, when me and my 10 yr old son went it ws £7 an adult and a whole 50p! for him

Facilities are basic ,toilets when we where there were clean and usable and still 50p for 5 mins in a shower, funny to see some campers stripped and ready to shower in the cubicle while a family member stands outside with the 50 p waiting for them to shout ready.

Washing area for dishes was very basic but plenty of very hot water, bring your own basin as the sinks here are massive, they seem to be made out of oil drums!

My 10 yr old and I had a nice relaxing time here,it was our 2nd time camping, our first at a campsite with no games room swimming pool etc

From the perspective of a 10 yr old hooked on playstations, wii,ds,tv and computers,he absolutely loved this especially getting up in the morning and cooking breakfast outside the tent with the mountains surrounding us,also sitting round a campfire he helped build and managed to light was a revelation for him

On the subject of fires, bring you own wood or by it on the way up as the campsite don't sell any ,nearest place is the garage in Glencoe. There is absolutely no wood in the campsite apart from the trees growing(which you cant use!

Went swimming as well in the swimming hole, well I say went swimming,my son went down with me with a fishing net to potter about and managed to fall in and surprisingly spent the next half hour up to his chest in freezing cold water fully clothed trying to catch fish

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable if somewhat relaxing campsite with pretty much everything you need to survive apart from a laundry although there is a space marked 'clothes' next to where you wash dishes

A very nice campsite with friendly owners a mix of families and walkers highly recommended although keep the fire lit to keep the midges away

We WILL back

Excellent campsite - plus points are that its huge so its easy not to have anyone camping near you, beautiful surroundings, do-able walk to the legendary Clachaig Inn down the road, five minutes drive to the local village with a Spar and cashpoint. And of course the campfires, allowed throughout the site.

The one major negative are the toilet and shower blocks, which are totally inadequate for the size of the site. In the womens block there are just two tiny cubicles separated only by a shower curtain - if you attempt to get out of your shower at the same time as the person in the next one you could end up bumping bits! There did appear to be more showers in two customised garden sheds but these were never unlocked, even when the womens block was closed for repainting, which was rather odd.

We were there for a Friday and Saturday night and despite the 11pm-7am silence rule there appeared to be a fair amount of late night rowdy noise from certain pitches, it would have been good if there was a site warden keeping an eye on things but we didn't see any evidence of one. We could have just been unlucky as we were pitched directly between two such groups, maybe the rest of the site was silent!

The only other thing I can think of as a negative is that people come round and steal your carefully foraged wood for the fire while you are at the pub. I found this really rude - go and get your own!

Overall though, highly recommended for the spectacular setting and campfires alone. Its unusual for a site to be so busy during the daytime with people just sitting around their 'camps' relaxing but that seemed to be the order of the day here. Also - we had absolutely no problem with midges here in July, there was the odd one around but nothing like other places we visited on the same trip. Possibly a consequence of the fire smoke?

This campsite is very well hidden and in a fantastic area. The fact that your allowed to have campfires is a real bonus as it helps keep the midges away, but unfortunately draws lots of people in their place. I think I prefer the midges to be honest

My only criticism is the place gets very busy, they have very, very basic facilities, and the price is almost double some of the other campsites I've been to.

I'd go back there, but only as a stopping off point for a couple of days at the end or beginning of a holiday.

Awesome. Beautiful location, campfires, a river, wood available, great pub ten mins walk away, probably my favourite campsite! The only downside in the dreaded midge, but you expect that in western Scotland. Plaster your self in Avon SSS and light the fire!
