Have visited this campsite on 4 different occasions so it must be good.

The campsite is on the banks of river Coe, about a mile from Glencoe Village, accessable from a single track road. You have free access to the river, and there’s also some swimming pool marked on the map – although it’s always been too cold for me.

The campsite facilities are basic and a bit old. Showers are 50p and are located in a couple of old portacabins.

The ground has a fair covering of soil, but you‘ll struggle to put tent pegs in by hand. Campfires are allowed but have to be in pre-defined spots and have to be put out about 11pm.

The Clachaig inn is about a 10 min walk away from the site which serves great food (watch out for the large portions) and has a wide selection of real beers and whiskies. Glencoe village is about a mile away and has a Co-op, post office, Petrol Station and post office.

Site is a good base for exploring the many hills of Glen Coe, Fort William, Oban and the famous Glenfinnan monument and viaduct.

A back to basics campsite with no frills. Be warned though – the site can get very busy at weekends.

Coe = the river

Glen Coe = the glen surrounding the river coe

Glencoe = the village at the end of the glen

A great little campsite with secluded areas to pitch in. Allows campfires which was a big bonus for us. Felt £18 per night for two of us was a little steep, but I guess camping is no longer as cheap as it used to be.

Toilets and showers were run down and basic, but were cleaned several times a day and were respected by fellow campers. There was a designated 'quiet zone' and 'dog zone' and a fire and noise curfew of 11pm.

Fantastic pub which serves good food a 10min walk away which was useful when it poured down so much that our hopes of a BBQ went out the window! Other than that, you are in the middle of a valley.

Stunning scenery on the doorstep, including Loch Leven - make sure you drive the circular route around it and take some photos! Check out time was 11am which is understandable but a little restrictive, especially as the campsite was pretty empty at the time.

Overall, worth a visit, but there are several other campsites nearby so I might check another one out next time for the sake of variety.

This was our final stop after a fun packed trip of Scotland and the Hebrides. From the outside the site looks a lovely and welcoming place - we were very disappointed once in and had parted with our money (which was by the way the most expensive of all the sites we had visited! costing £24.50 for 2 adults and 2 children in a tent)

The site was admittedly well organised but was not pleasant in the least, especially with the constant signs telling you what not to do!

Yes, the views and setting were great but the toilets and showers left a lot to be desired as did the pitches. We left after trying for 2 hours to pitch on horrendous plots.

Stayed here for 3 nights - 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog.

First time on site but know the area well and the proximity to the Clachaig Inn and the opportunity to have a camp-fire were the reasons we chose it.

Facilities are fairly basic and the pitches are a bit rough and ready - but we don't mind that. There was a bit of noise at night-time but it was good-natured and didn't bother us.

I agree with other comments that the prices are a wee bit steep but the wardens were helpful and pleasant and the toilets were kept clean and the showers always hot.

Would definitely go back.

We went to this site in late season so it was quiet. There were small car parks to leave the car then you could wander where ever you liked to set up camp. There are some lovely pitches by the river, and within the wooded areas.

When we arrived there was a very friendly girl, who pointed out all the facilities, and the “swimming pool” which was actually the a bit of river, it looked very inviting and refreshing, however a little to cold for me ! There seems to be no designated pitches, so can be a bit of a free for all.

The pitch we made was very nice on the edge of a wooded area, and had its own fire area, which is great fun and keeps the midges away. As it was turning to Autumn and getting a little cool the air was so fresh. We were blessed with lovely weather and couldn’t choose to wake up in a nicer spot, surrounded by stunning scenery.

The facilities were basic, but did the job, this is highland camping after all ! There is a pub that is about 10 mins walk away, you need a torch and the road is very dark, and beware of drivers that cannot see you. The pub was good, and very busy with a good atmosphere, though didn’t call last orders, just stopped serving, I couldn’t get a drink at 11:10pm which was disappointing.

There is a lot of hostels in the area too, so after closing time there is a bit of noise from the road as people make there way home. It soon settled down though, I would go back, but its a long way. Would recommend !

This is a largish site in the flat floor of the valley of Glen Coe, which has plenty of trees and a river to help to create lots of nooks and crannies and allow you to get your own spot even in a weekend evening in July.

Prices for campsites are still a little high compared to what you get at a hostel. The ladies showers were good, but male one was as bad as it could get other than the fact that there was some hot water for some of the time. Dish washing facilities were a joke. Distance to toilets too far from our spot.

In conclusion, good location, facilities like the campsites I remember in the seventies.

Stayed here for 2 nights, disappointed it has increased to £8 per person! There was only 2 of us this time, but I still consider £16 a bit steep for a night on a campsite, especially one with facilities as basic as these. Ancient ugly looking porterloo type toilets and showers, which are a very long walk from some pitches, and you have to pay extra for a shower.

One plus point is the views from the site and the riverside setting, but even at the end of May, midges were troublesome. Also the site attracts a lot of partygoers, due to the proximity to the Clachaig, which despite the supposed 11pm to 7am curfew can mean disturbance into the small hours.

All in all I consider the site bad value for money, but if you are wanting to camp in Glen Coe then this is the only feasible option

I have stayed here on a number of occasions, both in a small campervan and a tent, and it is a great site.

Good points: fantastic location, with great views; a shortish (10 min) walk to a fab pub (The Clachaig Inn) selling good food and beer; close to good walks (both along the valley and up the mountainsides; quirky notices; the stars at night; unregimented camping.

Bad points: basic toilets (housed in cramped portable cabins, and with showers with flappy curtains); midges.

I would strongly recommend this site. Provided you appreciate a good pub and the outdoors, and don't mind basic toilet / washing facilities.

Driven past this site lots of times. This time used it as a stop over on walking holiday. 6 of us in 4 backpacker tents. Great site, now £8 per person.

Fires are allowed & as others have said should be out by 11pm, dogs are allowed but are asked to take their owners for a stroll on the hills after dinner. Fishing is available, as is firewood.

Facilities are not new or modern but are well kept and clean. Showers are 50p and money should be put in meter after you are ready to shower. Water lasts long enough for a good hot shower, so much so that everyone in our group turned shower off before time was up.

Great scenery, usual mixed weather for the area.

As with most sites near water in Scotland probably very midgy at times but ok for us.

Would we go back? Yes we would.

From an entirely selfish point of view, I am a bit loathe to recommend this site too strongly. Of the three stays I've had here, the most enjoyable one was when the site was relatively quiet so it felt like we had the views all to ourselves.

There are some spectacular riverside pitches available here. Climbing out of your tent in the morning to make a campfire a small matter of a few feet away, with a Glencoe panorama in the background, is pretty unbeatable and one of the best camping experiences I've ever had the pleasure of er. Experiencing.

The other main plus point is the Clachaig Inn up the road, which is particularly handy as you're pretty much guaranteed a bit of wet weather here at some point and a trip back to civilisation for a couple of hours can come as a welcome relief.

So then, the downsides. The aforementioned weather can unsurprisingly be pretty much relentless. Glencoe is bit like a grey cloud bowling alley with one ball coming in after another; all of which makes an ideal incubation climate of course for the notorious midges. An all-over cocktail of anti-midge stuff (a bit like jumping in a chip pan) generally does the trick (they'll still formation circle you before landing but crucially won't bite) - and they come and go particularly if you do get a bit of good weather or get a fire going. It always seems a bit churlish though to mention weather and midges when describing camping in the west of Scotland anyway.

The toilets and showers are OK but an extra sink or two for washing dishes would come in handy. Likewise, a more relaxed campfire curfew past 11 p.M. Would be appreciated, but I guess there must be reasons for this.

Last thing to mention would be the Ice Station in Kinlochleven which has vital camping supplies as well as some high climbing walls and what appears to be the magnified inside of a fridge freezer for ice climb practising.

So all in all, look past the midge welcoming committee and the basic facilities and you'll definitely want to come back. Grab some mussels of the rocks on the coast and cook them over the campfire, so for 20 minutes at least you can forget about work, bills, the One Show and pig flu.
