Wonderful site which does just what it says. Level gravel hardstanding with hook up occupied, with sea views (which most pitches have) Large site but pitches well spaced. Facilities excellent and well maintained - gravel pitches raked over and grass pitches mown after every departure - very accessible motorhome waste disposal. Recycling of everything actively encouraged. Only one 'drop off' point for rubbish and recycling close to reception which for those at the bottom of the lower field was a bit of a trek. Additional secure rubbish / recycling points throughout the site would be the only improvement we could suggest, as other sites we have visited have done. Well stocked shop with superb croissants - hot & freshly baked! Bus stops outside the site if, like us, you don't move vehicle having arrived. Walks from the site join the coast path. Pubs in Mortehoe - 15-20 mins along footpaths. Wonderful takeaway mixed fish platter from 'Mortehoe Shellfish' - which also delivers to the site. Would definitely return to this site when we can revisit the area.

The facilities have recently been modernised. We spent a fabulous five nights at this site during May half term. The setting is dramatic with great views over the sea (what sunsets) and the pitches are a really good size. They're are organised in rows but not 'back to back' so there's plenty of space. We had our camper, awning, pup tent and an extra car on the pitch and still had tons of room. The site was very quiet in the evening even though it was school holidays.
The new revamped shop is brilliant - fresh croissant, pastries and bread every morning, papers and local bottled beer and cider and a good selection of wine. The pubs of Mortahoe are a 20 minute walk but worth it if you want to eat out, although a fresh fish van and chippy van both visit on certain days.
As a working farm they seem to take environmental issues seriously and have a proper recycling centre including plastics and cardboard. This is the first campsite I've come across that has this. The wash rooms are also new(ish) and have privacy cubicles for the wash basins and proper showers that are so big that your clothes don't get wet. Overall, I can't recommend this campsite enough.
In terms of the locality this site is perfect for cycling, walking and of course the beaches. If you want a day at Woolacoombe surfing (5 minute drive) my recommendation would be to get to the beach front car park at 9.00am (if you're an early bird like me !) and you can park right on the front overlooking the beach but with the grassed cliff tops in front of you. You pay £5 for the privilege but it's worth every penny when the weather is good. We took our VW camper there four days in a row and just chilled and chatted to the other surfers in between trips to the waves. Perfect.

Just returned from a last minute get away to this lovely campsite. Our pitch was spacious, and relatively flat. The toilet block was spotless, showers as warm / cold as you would like! Dishwashing and laundry facilities super. The shop sold warm chocolate croissants and other pastries in the morning and all the staff in the shop were very pleasant and most helpful. They even gave honest advice on the 'crocs'. Will be using this campsite as our base for North Devon in the future but will be choosing our pitch carefully to ensure some shelter from high winds. We were camping on a glorious weekend but could see that tents in the middle of the field would be at high risk if the weather was inclement. The campsite literature is very honest about this aspect.

This site was absolutely fantastic, and so good, we are already booked in for easter 2009!
A split site, with caravan club members at one end and c&cc members down the bottom end, the views from this site are spectacular.
You are high on a hill, which means that you can be a little exposed to the elements at times, but you always have the comfort of great showers, wet room, drying room, and a nice little shop. We were there through howling gales, driving rain, and a leaky tent all on our first camping trip, but we loved it so much here that we have bought a new tent, and are planning on becoming hardened campers.
There is no pub within a short walk, but a walk of approx 1 mile cross country will bring you out in the lovely village of Mortehoe, with 3 pubs and a chippy!
You are always made welcome, even when it is very busy, and a busy chip shop is usually a very good sign!

We stopped at Damage Barton for 3 nights in the CC part.
At the time of our visit because of the all the rain, they were keeping all units off the grass pitches, so we had a lovely view.
The reception building which also houses the shop was due to be demolished this month. The new building which will match the building (toilets etc)further down the site will be open for next season.
There are two buildings on site, which house toilets, showers,(lovely and warm) laundry(3x £1.00 for a wash and 70p for drier - though wasn't completely dry), washing up facilities etc. Felt very weird, as the individual toilet floor slopes in the top block. The building nearer the C&CC site was modern, also had 2 private bathrooms for families and even a room for washing off wetsuits and dogs.
Lovely walks from the site, through the fields down to Bull Point and can then follow the paths along the coastline.
Don't follow your sat nav with the postcode, took us down a narrow track down to Lee. Scary! Follow Damage Bartons instructions, which we should have done. Lol
Best dog friendly beach was Saunton near Braunton. Golden sands. £5 for car park.
We'll be back next year, really enjoyed ourselves.

The second week of our summer holiday was booked at Damage Barton. It looked idyllic and we were looking forward to a relaxing time. When we arrived we were given a map which was ambiguous to say the least - you can't actually see the pitch poles from the road and a neighbouring unit had used our pitch as a car park. No-one offered to take us to the pitch, a first at a C&CC site.
As the pitch we were offered was also much smaller than we would normally expect on C&CC site (for the 6 of us) we asked to move. It was also a good 500 yrd walk uphill to the toilet block. The staff were fine about this and found us another pitch, much closer to the toilet block as well.
The surrounding area is lovely but it is miles from anywhere, to get to a decent beach is a good 20 mins drive - where upon a £6 parking charge awaits.
The shower block is large and the hot water pressure is fantastic. There is a TINY, expensive laundry room so long queues seemed to be typical. The on-site shop is great, with loads of local produce and fresh bread (we had fresh, warm croissants for breakfast every day) and a very large collection of Crocs. The kids loved the collection of Jibbets for their Crocs.
There is a special kite flying field (you aren't allowed to fly them in the main playing field) but it's long and thin in the wrong direction for the prevailing wind. I'm a keen stunt kite flyer and was looking forward to using the wind to my advantage - the barbed wire surrounding the flying field had other ideas.
We should have been suspicious that the only thing for sale in the check-in office were (overpriced) awning tie down kits and that on the receipt it also said no refunds in the event of inclement weather, it also advised you to stay with your unit in the event of poor weather.
We've never had warnings like that before so it would seem our experience is not unique.
The site is so exposed that with this years August weather it was like being in a hurricane. We came back after the 2nd day to find a kind soul had added ropes to our awning to stop it blowing away - this despite buying and using the tie-down kit, plus having rock pegs all round.
That evening the wind got up and blew the awning all over the place, snapping several fibre-glass poles and all the corner connectors - not easy on an Isabella awning. People came running from nearby vans to help us, eventually with the help of 6 or 7 fellow campers we dismantled the awning. Talking to others, the trick is to park your car to protect the awning from the wind - which wasn't possible on the pitch we had.
We went home!

We have just returned from a week at Damage Barton and have had a mixed time of it.
Our experience of C&CC club sites is that when you arrive, one of the staff there walk you to the pitch then offer advice over the best way of pitching your tent. However, upon arrival at Damage Barton, we were given a map of the site with our pitch marked with an 'X' and sent on our way. I could understand this if the 'check-in' was busy, but nobody else was there !
When we arrived at our pitch, the wind was howling and there was driving rain. Four of us got on with it and eventually got our tent pitched - quite an experience. Incidentally, another family arrived later in the evening and the winds had picked up so much that it took 10 people to pitch their (relatively) small tent ! !
We assumed that we had arrived on a 'bad weather day' and that it would improve, but unfortunately whilst the rain continued in torrential showers throughout the week, the wind howled non-stop. The wind comes overland from Exmoor and there is no protection from it anywhere on the site.
Due to the wind at this site, I would highly recommend anyone going to this site to invest in some Delta Pegs before going. We saw a number of tents quite literally collapsing through the week after being battered by the wind.
So, what about the site itself ?
It's a fairly large site, mainly used by caravans. All pitches are on a distinct slope, so much so that we were going to sleep at the top of our bedroom 'pod' and waking up at the bottom, having slid down during the night ! Obviously caravans can be levelled out, but there's not much that can be done about the slope when in a tent.
There are two toilet / shower blocks on the site. Unfortunately, both of them are located in the top half of the site. As tents all seem to be located at the bottom of the site, this meant a week of walking uphill to the block. Admittedly, not normally a problem but it gets a bit wearing when battling the wind and rain every time. The showers and toilets are closed between 1400-1600 every day for cleaning and they are generally kept clean. There are plenty of toilets and showers so any waiting was kept to a minimum.
The dishwashing facilities are also good. There are approx 8 sinks in a room. All are kept very clean. Obviously this room gets very busy at times, but that's inevitable.
There are also laundry facilities at the site. However, this consists of only 1 washing machine and 1 tumble dryer. Unfortunately, this is totally inadequate for a site of this size. There were times when 3 or 4 people were queueing up to use the washing machine, each person taking a couple of loads with them.
On the penultimate day of our holiday, the wind and rain stopped and it was completely different. We could go outside without full waterproofs on and the view was excellent, looking out over the channel towards the Welsh coastline.
Overall, if you are happy to cope with fairly non-stop winds and sloping pitches, this is a lovely site. However, if you are in a tent and aren't sure whether it would stand up to winds, I would recommend finding an alternative site.

We have just arrived back from this site and overall enjoyed our stay.
The site is very well run and the pitches are spacious and tidy, both toilet blocks were spotless and the small shop was well stocked, fresh bread every morning.
If you like walking there are miles of footpaths
There was a bustop outside the campsite but the buses are not punctual and sometimes up to 30 mins late
Even though this was one of the warmest weeks this year it was very breezy and you will need a windbreak if you sit outside

Yet another lovely holiday at Damage Barton, (May 28th for 4 nights) staff are very friendly. Julie and husband in the shop are fab ! even cooking croissants to order for us as we got up a bit late!
The pitches are the best, not overlooked one bit, the top toilet block is very clean and warm, but the bottom block is just fab, disabled room, family room with a bath and 2 sinks, very clean showers and the block is extremely warm, so you dont freeze as you get out of the showers!
The owner Mr Lethbridge and family do tractor tours of the working farm.
This is a fab campsite so long as .Its not windy.
We stayed at the top for CC members, we spent all day in on the bank holiday holding down the awning, the winds were hurrendous ! so much so that the caravaners that went out for the day came back to no awning and personal belongings in everyone elses awning being looked after.
We managed to save one awning but it took 7 of us to pull another one down from flapping about, not a very nice experience as the awning polls and pegs were being thrown about like spears, so lucky the occupants and 3 children (under 5) were not in there. The new Bailey Carolina had damage to the side from the polls smashing aginst it.
The owners of the site were always there to help everyone and even came up with the tractor to take their belongings to the safe cow shed.
This is the only down fall but the site is just fab!

Fantastic site which we have been to time and time again.
Lovely warm welcome when you arrive, even a cup of tea is on offer, the facilities are spotless and very modern.
The pitches are well laid out and always look tidy, mainly hard standing but some grass pitches next to childrens play field.
Spectacular views of the sea, though it takes a good couple of hours to walk there.
The on site shop is fantastic, they will even bake you fresh bread if ordered.
You are close to Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and Morthoe, so they is plenty to do.
There are also a couple of good dog parks on site if you don't want to venture along the coastal path.
