We travelled here with our caravan in August 2010, when we arrived we were instantly made very welcome, it was a very windy day, so, we put our awning up and tethered it very well!
The following morning the wind had diminished and out came the sun and stayed with us for the whole stay, on the morning we left we had a slight shower.
Anyway enough about the weather, the view is awe inspiring, there are some fantastic walks around the area, it's a very, very steep climb out of Lee however!
The on site shop is brill! With prices only slightly over the odds, to be honest, you could pitch up here and throw your car keys away. The toilet blocks are spotless, and I mean spotless, and as for the showers themselves. WOW!
I'm visiting again 2011. Can't wait!

Fabulous, some day all caravan sites will be made this way. On arrival we pulled our rig into a proper tourer car park. Went into reception to a warm friendly greeting of please take a seat and would you like a tea or a coffee while you check in (wicked). We had a serviced pitch and yes every pitch had a sea view. Toilet and shower block was always clean with constant hot water. Site shop was great had everything and was cheaper than any shop off the camp. All staff were friendly and did there best to be helpful at all times. It spoilt us this site because now we compare all sites to it, unfortunately they don't compare. We would go back tomorrow.

Our first visit to Damage Barton and our first camping trip as a family (two adults, and three kids aged 2, 7 and 4). On arrival the staff were friendly and welcoming. It would have been really helpful though if someone could have shown us to our pitch, especially as the office was deserted. Like another reviewer, we were simply given a map of the site, our pitch marked with an X and left to get on with it.
We stayed for 4 nights on a pitch in the centre of the site with no EHU point. Most of the pitches with EHU were against the hedge at the bottom of the field and so were afforded some protection from the wind. However the wind can be a nuisance on this site and very few escape a bit of a bashing in bad weather, especially if you are sited in the middle as we were. Although the owners are very up-front about the open aspect of the site. During our stay we found that it got too cold and windy to sit outside after about 5.30pm, even though it was the end of July.
On the positive side, the pitch was a very decent size for our 5-man tent and we had a good amount of space between us and fellow campers. The sea views from the site are absolutely wonderful on a good day, although we had a bit of fog and drizzle coming in from the sea now and then when you couldn't see your hand in front of you! If only we could control the weather.
It was a bit of a trek from the bottom of the field to the toilet and shower blocks at the top, at times - certainly felt that way carrying a tired 2 yr old uphill on a windy evening! But nothing the average camper couldn't handle.
We were very impressed with the high standard of cleanliness and the very modern presentation of the facilities: the showers were very spacious and plentiful; toilets and washbasins very clean. I never had to queue to use the showers/toilets - lots of lovely free hot water too.
There were also several enclosed washbasins which afforded a nice bit of privacy when you feel less than human early in the morning. The family room with bath, sink and toilet was a thoughtful and welcome addition, too. Nice to have the washing-up sinks indoors where you're protected from the elements. We had to wait our turn, but not for long. Really handy to have the washing machine and tumble drier too.
There's a large field where my two boys went off to play, but I felt that a small dedicated play area would have been really useful - just a few swings, a slide etc. - to keep them amused.
The site shop had all the basics - bread, milk, etc. And the staff were very friendly. They will freeze your ice packs for a small charge.
We didn't take the tour around the farm as it seemed quite pricey, as I remember. Instead we spent our short stay mainly on the beach at Woolacombe Sands, which is a fantastic swathe of sand and swirling waves. Had to pay to park the car at Woolacombe,as too far to walk there with 2 and 4 yr olds. Would have explored coastal paths too if we hadn't had such young children with us, as didn't fancy carrying them for miles!
Woolacombe town itself was unimpressive and very busy most of the time, the main draw being the wonderful beach. Couldn't keep our boys out of the water with their surf boards - although wet suits were in order, as the sea was pretty cold! Our 2 yr old was a bit wary of the noisy waves. Spent a lovely afternoon at Ilfracombe - although it got really overcrowded by lunch time. Lovely harbour town - you can cruise to Lundy from here, and lots of kiosks were advertising fishing trips.
Mortehoe village accessible down a steep road from camp site - seemed very pretty and had a few shops, pubs and restaurants, although I can't comment on these as we only ever passed through in the car. We took lots of basics with us on this short trip, so didn't find out about best / nearest supermarkets. Eating out consisted of takeaway fish and chips (very good quality fish) and a few run of the mill pub meals in Woolacombe and Ilfracombe.
All in all a very enjoyable trip to a site with spotless, modern toilets / showers and amazing sea views, close to a vast expanse of beach and sea. Children's play area would be a good addition.
Main downside is the very open and unsheltered nature of the site and the wind factor. Would hate to be there in bad weather. We'd recommend this site and hope to revisit soon - just keep your fingers crossed for good weather and take some strong tent pegs.

After forty or so reviews on this site there is nothing else to say. However, that’s never stopped me before so in summary, - Very good sized C&CC hard standing pitch.
Clean, easy to use showers that pack a punch. Very friendly and helpful team. Ideal location for the fit and healthy who may enjoy walking, not so good for the infirm or children.
Terrific scenery but oh so windy. Local buses shut down around 18.00 but if you have transport and want somewhere flat to walk the river Tay’s estuary at Crows Point is well worth a visit (along toll rd).
Nearest main supermarkets are about five miles away but the shop stocks a fair selection of basics. A good location for touring North Devon and Exmoor.

This is a beautiful site with every pitch having a view of the sea, across lovely farmland. The site itself is set on a gentle slope but once you get off site, it becomes very hilly.
The welcome was warm and helpful, and I felt that the booking process was much more flexible than on other CC sites (DB is a CC affiliated site). My brother-in-law was due to arrive the next day and they allocated us pitches next door to each other. The toilet facilities are immaculate with hot water.
The shop needs to be highly commended - it had a wider variety of stock than all of the caravan sites we have visited, with freshly baked croissants and pastries available every morning to boot, yum. The gentleman running the shop was full of useful, local advice about where to visit, best places to eat and good surfing beaches.
There are some lovely walks from the site but as this is coastline terrain, some steep walks in places.
The local area has some great places to visit and in one week, we still hadn't seen even half of what was on offer. Morthoe (great pub called the Ship Agroud), Woolacombe (superb life-guarded beach, ideal for children, body-boarding and surfing), Croyde (smaller than Woolacombe beach but excellent for the same reasons, just not as many amenities on the beach), Ilfracombe (lovely harbour town), Lynton and Lynmouth - to name but a few!
This site, it's facilities, it's location and all that is available in the locality, is currently my favourite site in England and I cannot wait to return next year.

I'm not sure what can be usefully added to what everyone else has written
The site is superb & is one of the best maintained and well managed sites that I've used.
The showers were spotless, the 'welcome' in reception actually made you feel valued as a customer and there is a good effort at recycling waste.
I watched two staff with what must be one of the worst jobs of the 21st century: They were having to rip open the dog poo bags that people use to clear up after their dogs - because not all plastic degrades.
The pitches were, and for the most part, hard-standing with super sea-views when the mist clears.
The road to the site is narrow in places, so take your time and you'll get there in one piece.
Morthoe and Mullacot Cross are renowned for high winds and the Damage Barton site didn't disappoint: Despite this, all you have to do is move around to the other side of your van and you'll be sheltered.
Some-one else moaned about high parking charges locally: They are a disgrace and it is little wonder that people choose to holiday abroad.

A lovely site with some amazing views over the sea. Fantastic on-site shop that served freshly baked bread and pasties daily. Very clean and tidy and one of the best shower blocks I have ever visited. Children's play area. Great as a base for Woolacombe and other local beaches and they even have a wet room where you can hose off your wet-suites. Some lovely coastal walks from the site.
Due to its cliff top coastal location it can be quite windy and exposed, suggest you pack a storm strap in case, however, the weather is not always like that!

We had a fully serviced level pitch at the bottom of the site with wonderful sea views. Uphill walk to the showers given I have a walking impairment but it would not stop me going back to this site. The showers were very clean and well maintained. Impressed with the recycling facilities but again we dropped off our rubbish on the way out each day as it was quite a walk uphill for me. The used site shop which was very good with very friendly service recommending cycling routes for out mixed ability.
Would certainly return to Damage Barton

As per other reviews, this is a camp site well worth a visit. The views are brilliant. The new toilet/shower block is excellent and very very clean.
On site shop is good, hot croissants for breakfast most mornings.
We were on a hardstanding pitch which was a blessing due to the awful rainy weather and some tents suffered a severe rain beating on several nights. Also a very windy site so again being on the edge of the field on a hardstanding was brilliant.
Pubs in Mortehoe brilliant - only downside was cost of parking in the area ie Woolacombe, which is a brilliant beach area for the children. Also you have to pay until 9pm at Mortehoe!
All in all a well thought out site with good facilities and would recommend this to all. PS might benefit from some play ground stuff for children as currently only an open field, but a minor gripe!

I've just returned from a two week break in my Motorhome to Devon and Cornwalll. The first week was at Damage Barton, a very nice site, with good facilities and pitches. The site is associated with both the Caravan Club and the Caravan and Camping Club. The pitches are separated by a recreational grass area that's used for all sorts of activities. The CCC pitches are located next to the brand new toilet block.
The main reason for me writing my review is to point out that the site is not that suitable to young families. We are a family of four, my wife and I, a four year old boy and a 18 month old girl. The mile walk to Morthoe is along a very steep, narrow and to be honest dangerous road when pushing a pram. The alternative is a 30 minute walk along footpaths that are again steep and not best suited to a pram although you can manage it, if you're fit. As always with a very young family you will end up carrying them because of the hills. We did take the bike to get around on but again the hils are too much.
If the children were older then this would have been an excellent choice of site as the walking to Morte Point and the lighthouse areas would have been great.
I would recommend the hard, steep walk to Lee bay for the rock pooling and also the difficult pram push along the footpaths to Rockham, but be warned it is very difficult with a pram. A god drive out is to Putsbrough beach at the bottom end of Woolacombe sands, carpark right next to the beach that can take motorhomes, the beach is quiet, clean as you would expect and lovely sea.
Oh, nearly forgot. It can get very windy and this happens quite a lot and the wind generally comes from behind the site, not from the sea! It destroyed a few sturdy awnings when we where there
