This site for us, is fantastic, we just love the wide open views!
Just returned from a very cold weekend, we had rain, hailstones and glorius sunshine all in 1 day.
One of the fields was too wet so the happy owner advised us to stay on the back of the carpark or just inside small field still some gravel, we picked the latter.
We booked the EHU and was glad of it, made our break so comfortable.
The pub serves great food by staff who seem to really enjoy their jobs, the drinks are very resonable and Unicorn bitter is served perfect. We booked a table for dinner (good advice, busy even at this time of year)and were very lucky to have the hot seats next to the log fire. The 'black pudding with stilton sauce' is my fav starter!
This is the second time we have visited this site, and we will definitely be returning.
Great site, great pub made very special by great people working and running it.
Thank you for making my birthday weekend a real treat.

I've just arrived back from a couple of freezing nights in a tent at this excellent campsite.
Facilities were basic but for £5 a night what do you expect? The field was a little sloped but the excellent views made up for it. Being January there was only us and one other group so there was plenty of space. I can't imagine the field being anywhere near full in summer, however.
Unfortunately the pipes seemed to be frozen in the toilet block so we had to manage without a shower but it wasn't the end of the world as we could use the facilities in the pub for toilets and washing.
We had a meal in the pub on Saturday night and it was ideal. We decided we needed to defrost so sat by the fire where I enjoyed a delicious game pie and several pints of decent ale. They were happy for the dog to come in and defrost too - although there is a separate dining area where dogs aren't allowed. The best of both worlds!
Overall I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the site and hope to return again soon. It's in a lovely area and easy to find (It was 10pm by the time I got there after work on Friday night - just follow the A515 until you see the pub).

Just arrived back from a 2 night stay on this site. We were visiting with a group of Volkswagen campers.
Cant fault the site, landlord was extremely welcoming and very friendly so were his staff. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was excellent and we didn't have to wait long even with them being busy.
The campsite is level and on grass, toilets and shower are basic but were very clean.
Excellent position to travel from, plenty to see and do in nearby towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Ashbourne. Excellent for walking and cycling with footpaths and trail accessed directly from the site.

Spent two nights here mid week in November 2011. Amazing value at £10 per night for our touring caravan including an electric hook up. There was no extra charge for either our awning or our dog (dog's on lead's)
Wonderful view's from this site - when the fog lifted for a few hours!
Owner was very friendly and helpful both on the phone when booking and in person on arrival.
Site is level grass pitches in two fields with lots of space reached through the car park of the pub. There is also a camping field without electricity.
Childrens play area in pub garden.
Toilet facilities consist of one gents and one ladies plus one unisex shower operated by £1 coins. While these facilities could probably do with updating, they were spotlessley clean with locks on the doors and there was soap and toilet paper provided. PIR outside light on the loo's was a nice touch, as the site is reasonably dark.
I'd guess that there may be a queue for the toilets at busier times, so we'd have made use of our caravan's portaloo and the elsan point behind the toilet block. Pot wash area here too, but we didn't use it.
Location was great! Right on the A515 just south of Buxton. Close to the High Peak Trail where we walked and there is cycle hire in season. We also visited the Arbour Low stone circle and the Goyt valley, both of which are nearby.
Large discount book shop a mile or two up the road towards Buxton. Nearest fuel is just on the edge of Buxton with a Tesco express in the building too.
At a guess, Ashbourne is only 15 miles away? Matlock can't be much further. Lots to do on an outdoors type holiday and many attractions locally if the weather is not so nice.
I fully intend to stay here again. Good value and friendly.
Saw a badger on my way to the bin's too!

Its rustic, charming and basic. The view is a 180 degree panorama of the Peak district and is reason enough to stay here. If you want numbered, measured plots and a map with a list of rules then it is not the place for you!
We arrived on site, signed in at the bar and were shown to our 'area' The hook-up point was behind a bush in the corner and after a bit of jostling to get our caravan in the best position we were sorted.
The water was located behind the loo block and the upside down tap had us stumped so you'll need a filler hose which we managed to borrow from another guest.
We had dinner in the pub (they stop serving at 8. 30) and it was excellent, home made, proper pub fayre and very reasonably priced. Real hand cut chips (and twice fried - the proper way!)
The next morning we were greeted with a fantastic view, the sun was out and the 5 minute drive to Buxton was handy.
We decided to book in at the pub again on the Saturday night (recommended as it gets busy) and we were delighted again with the food, service was a little slow but its not fast food (hurray) and is certainly worth the wait. It was Saturday night after all.
The facilities are 'basic' but we loved it. It was a very relaxing stay, an easy going and welcoming site.
Its not all singing/all dancing and that's its charm. Its a field behind a pub that serves great food, good beer and boasts the best view. We're definitely going back before the winter sets in - and we don't generally revisit sites because we have so many new places to try!

Just returned from a lovely relaxing weekend on this site with our two kids. Bargain price at only £10 pn with electric hook up.
The views were lovely and the staff very friendly and welcoming. The food and service in the pub was good, they were busy so booking is advisable.
The facilities are basic! only having two toilets and one shower, although you can use the pub toilets after 8am.
If you like luxury, this site isn't for you, but if you enjoy being in the countryside then give it a try. We loved it and will definitely return.

Beautiful surroundings and stunning views. Lots of space on site with the owner making sure everyone is spaced out and family groups have corners to themselves.
Very basic facilities and, on this occasion, no hot water for pot washing or showering.
Pub facilities are open 8am until closing time. Pub itself is fantastic. Beautiful food and good beer with a friendly welcome.
Cycling near by but we needed car to get to Parsley Hay on Tissington Trail as the main A515 is very busy (we had children cycling with us. )
Camping, in the countryside as it should be.

Great site if you like it basic 2 toilets 1 shower but at £8 per night for a 6 birth tent we think its a bargain.
The on site pub is great and the food top notch Derick the landlord is very welcoming and seems to go out of his way to get you settled in.
1 thing I would suggest is to book your table if you are eating especially Friday and Saturday nights. Good drinks as these range from a couple of real ales to the regular lagers to wines and spirits highly recommend a nice cool old tom as a night cap.
Will be back in the new year.

Stopped here for one night on our way home from Scotland. As others have said, basic site but just what we needed! We phoned earlier on in the day and were told to just come into the bar when we arrived which we did.
The landlord made us very welcome and showed us a choice of sites. At £10 including electric, we were well pleased! We ate in the pub which was really good.
The loos were out of order as the 'pit' was awaiting emptying! I had a near death experience emptying our Thetford into the 'alternative elsan disposal point' - the yard cess pit! Almost dropped it in, which doesn't bear thinking about.
Great views and a decent site for a stopover.

Having passed this pub last weekend coming back from Over Haddon, we decided to have a night there this weekend in our campervan.
We telephoned the pub to ask about availability and were told that all electric hook ups were taken, but there was plenty of room elsewhere on site. As we didn't need hook up we set off and arrived later in the afternoon.
The landlord Derek met us on arrival, booked us in and directed us to our field. We shared a large field with only 4 other vans and positioned ourselves opposite the breathtaking views. We had a fantastic meal in the pub in the evening and our two dogs were made very welcome. All the bar staff and other guests/locals were very friendly.
The toilets and shower were basic but you can always use the pub facilities from 8 am if required. As others have said, it is camping as it should be- old school!
There is a petition in the pub to try and oppose a decision by the local council who are trying to close down a number of sites in the area including The Duke of York
