Just been to duke of york for a one night stay.

Sadly it was the last weekend for the landlord. All I can say is ok the facilities are very basic and dated, but other things make this a great place to stay like the area and the fantastic views from the campsite.

The best thing was the warm and friendly welcome we got from him and his team and they will be sadly missed, so lets hope the new landlords are as friendly, as for me that is a big part of the visit I've enjoyed over the last 3 years.

Good luck to them and we look forward to seeing what the new landlords do to improve the campsite.

We recently spent 4 nights on this site. Yes, the views are delightful, yes, the food in the pub is fine, yes, it only costs £10pn but this is all balanced out with facilities that can only be described as horrible at best (how expensive is a plastic loo seat to replace the split one in the gents?), and ehu stations that are distinctly Heath-Robinson without the charm, but with the alarming sense of danger that comes with having to allow water to drain out of the plug before you are able to use it.

The chemical disposal point overflowed on the Saturday night and a few hours later was drained out and could be used again. But the fact that the washing up area was a few feet away from the cdp seemed decidedly dodgy - why not make sure the cess pit is regularly emptied to avoid this happening?

As has been mentioned before, the field can get a bit boggy and wet - this is part and parcel of being in the beautiful Peak District NP so I have no complaints about that but the entrances to both field areas were quagmires so why not fork out for a lorryload of hardcore and make these entrances more passable?

Surrounding area-wise, Buxton is a cracking market town with masses of shops and places to eat. Bakewell a little more tourist-y but pretty nonetheless.

The views and countryside are lovely and the site is situated in a handy position for getting to any of the major towns. This means that there is a fair bit of traffic noise but that comes with the fact that this is a roadside PH - you should maybe take it into account if you're looking for absolute peace and quiet; the road was a lot quieter at night.

The site could have so much going for it for the sake of a little TLC and elbow grease. As it stands, we can't recommend it unless you have your own facilities and a sense of adventure where electricity is concerned.

Yes the views were great and I know we’ve had lots of wet weather but I’m sorry this does not excuse the state of the site it was terrible the entrances to the fields were deeply rutted and very boggy.

The grass was almost a foot high, the electrics when you found them were appalling. We went with friends two vans on the hook up we were directed to, these kept tripping out the owner just said it was what we had on in our vans (chance would be a fine thing), luckily we were the only ones in this field at this time so we then tried several other hooks ups - same again but every time we opened a socket water poured out eventually found a pair that worked (great). But the whole system leaves a lot to be desired all on extension leads wrapped in bin liners just laying in the grass.

As for the facilities two toilets and one shower, they were filthy smelly, didn’t look like they had ever been cleaned, yes they were rustic and suited the surroundings and at a £1 for a shower you would come out feeling dirtier than when you went in. The other half of the toilet block was cordoned off because it was derelict and falling down. The site supposedly caters for 60 odd units ie 120 people at least, this is woefully inadequate although a note in toilet block window does say if fully occupied, the pub door is open from eight am this is not so, you were lucky to find it open at ten, on our last morning it was still locked at ten thirty.

When we tried to empty our own toilets( glad we had our own facilities) we could not believe the chemical emptying point, once you found it was overgrown and over flowing this is right next to the washing up point.

On a brighter note we did eat in the pub on our arrival the food was fine, this was the one and only time. We choose this site because of the pub and the info on the web site when we booked back in March, how disappointed are we I think you can tell!

The local area was stunning.

Just had a week here. Very nice location with tremendous views, including a lovely sunset over the dales. Toilet and shower are a bit basic, with £1 for 5 minute shower. Pub toilets are advertised as available from 8am but someone forgot to unbolt the door most mornings!

For £10 a night, including EHU, it's as much as one can wish. The pub is cosy with some good meals from the bar, or in the restaurant.

The field is level for most, although there are several different fields, only one with hook up, I believe. It did get boggy, but then 72 hours continuous rain will do that to any field site.

Site is very central for walking, with plenty of choice from the site, two miles to cycle hire centre, should you wish. Lots of other attractions in Derbyshire, within a short drive.

Maybe had the sun shined our view would have been different but we had 48hrs of continuous rain and the site with its slope, uncut grass and narrow muddy access points, especially to the lower field, made getting the van off impossible. Without the kind assistance of our neighbour and his 4x4 we would have been stuck as there was no assistance available from the site.

The rain was not the sites fault but the condition of the site was. If we had been able to relax during our four night stay knowing that we would be able to exit the site we would have had a much more enjoyable stay.

All that said the view from the pitch was beautiful and the food and atmosphere in the Pub very pleasant. For such a cheap price we did not expect to use the facilities and stayed self contained, which we were grateful for as they were at best basic.

We are fairly new to caravanning and are learning quickly from each visit, the latest lesson being to cater more for the two kids. The weather put the 'dampner' on any playing on site but in any event there is no play facilities. We need to look at more established sites in future for both the children and to cater for those caravanners with 2wd.

Peak District however was great despite the weather. We walked Dovedale and Lathkill Dale, both beautiful and very close to the site.

Very disappointed. Firstly grass and weeds very long, therefore always had wet feet, and was difficult to put awning up. Toilets were very basic, and run down.

Electric in field we were in was just like an extension lead, very dangerous. There was just a very, very, muddy track into field, of which people were getting stuck in.

On our departure day we could not get off site because of track, on asking the owner to help us off with his four by four, he just said his car was broke and just shut pub door on us with out even offering any advice (great customer service). Luckily a fellow camper came to our rescue, I would like to say a big thank you to him.

I realise the site was only £10, but we have been on many sites at this price, and can be recommended.

It is such a shame as views, and location were fantastic.

After reading the reviews for this campsite we decided to book it for the bank holiday weekend. The price of £10 per night sounded very reasonable for a EHU pitch.

We had booked two pitches, one for us and one for my in laws. My in laws arrived first and were directed to the corner of one of the three fields. When we arrived we were asked to park at a right angle to their caravan, but this meant we were basically parked in front of their caravan, obscuring their view and meaning our view was towards the pub. It was a shame because the views we should of have were lovely.

The grass was long and we had to stamp it down in order to get our awnings up. It really could have done with being mowed and the weeds and nettles strimmed. We felt that the caravans were being packed in to get more units in to each field. There were wires strewn across the field we were in from the field in front, so that the other caravans could hook up. We didn't feel this was very safe.

The toilet block consisted of one male and one female toilet. These were cleaned each morning, however were in very poor condition, situated in a run down building, half of which had collapsed - this was fenced off with a Danger sign. There was one shower for the whole site - I went to use this on the first morning but came back out again. It was filthy and required £1 to operate. There is a Elsan point and a sink (open to the elements).

The pub itself was nice. We had a meal and few drinks and enjoyed our evening. However, when we went to bed each night another camper played loud music in to the early hours. There weren't any site rules in relation to noise or anything else, so it made it difficult to do anything about this.

Sorry but this site was not for us - yes it's cheap at £10 per night but I think there were too many things that let it down - I would rather pay a bit more and feel like I had my own pitch, a decent view and facilities that I could use.

Also be prepared for the fact that the site can get very muddy if you have a lot of rain. Some struggled to get off the site, even without their caravan hitched up to their cars.

We decided to have a weekend away in our caravan at The duke Of York public house and camp site at Pomeroy. We chose this site as we only live 20 mins away and the price with electric hook up was only £10 per night which we thought was very reasonable. We also chose this site because of its location which is ideal for the Tissington Trail and Hulme End to walk the Manifold Valley.

This was our first visit to this site and upon the friday evening we were shown to the fields where we could site our caravan and where all the amenities were. We set up in the far field up against the fence and had the benefit of mains. We had splendid views of the countryside, looking right across the fields.

Our only criticism of the site was that as it rained very heavy in the night and the site became very muddy through the gates of the field, that the grass could have done with a mow as it was quite long and that the toilet and shower block were very basic, saying all that we had a great weekend.

Although we didn't venture to the pub it looked very busy all weekend. We would definitely stay here again to either walk the Tissington Trail or Manifold Valley.

 2nd stay here.

Still costs only £10 per night for a caravan including electric hook up. Pub has good food with large spacious campsite behind. Two fields with electric and two further fields without.

Midday check in and check out suits us very well, and the landlord of the Duke of York is very friendly and accommodating. Site was a little bit wet and muddy on arrival with plenty of people pitching in to help each other out when stuck.

Nice relaxed atmosphere too. Site dried out as soon as the sun made an appearance! Reasonably windy as site has little shelter. A 'lively' time was had while building awnings. Cracking views are a nice trade off though.

Loo's and single shower still a bit past their best, (£1 per shower, and I take two coins with me as I find one doesn't last long enough) but considering that the site was unexpectedly busy for the time of year they were kept very clean and there was always toilet roll. Loo's in the pub also available from 8am until closing, so no real need to queue.

As an example of the kind of service received from the owner, friends camping next to us went to use the shower and found that the light was not working. They called in to the pub to report the issue. A screwdriver wielding landlord dealt with the problem within minutes and normal service was resumed! Can't say fairer than that as far as I'm concerned and it nicely illustrates the excellent and friendly reception you can expect here.

Buxton and all it's facilities are only a few miles away, and the High Peak and Tissington trails we visited are also close by.

I shall certainly return and I'm sure it'll be soon!

Have just enjoyed a 4 night stay, should have been 5 but due to snow blocked road enjoyed a 5th night.

Many thanks to Derek who always makes you welcome but especially for the milk, bread & hospitality when the road was blocked.

The site is located just south of Buxton, is basic but for a quiet location is spot on.

Children's play area needs updating, presently just one small slide.

Beer & food in Pub is brilliant - dogs welcome, makes it even better !

Very convenient for visiting Bakewell & Matlock.

Will definitely be back again next year.
