Just spent a weekend here and really enjoyed our stay. On arrival Derek the landlord showed us where to pitch but to be fair we could have pitched anywhere. The toilets and showers as previously said are very basic - one ladies & one mens with one shower which costs £1, but we used our own shower anyway. It cost us £10 per night with electric and I believe camping is from £5 per night. Very reasonable.
The pub itself has a great atmosphere very welcoming and the food is reasonably priced. We had a Sunday roast and it was lovely.
The staff are very helpful and friendly and cannot do enough for you.
This site is a great base for exploring the surrounding area with a great view.
We are definitely going their again and taking our friends with us.

2 lowly bikers, broke down in Pomeroy Nr Flagg. Popped into the duke of york to use the loo and have a pint while waiting for the tow truck.
After a couple of hours we felt like we had know the locals and landlord all our lives. The tow truck returned us to our home over an hour ago where we promptly filled the boot of the car and drove straight back to camp!
We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay, landlord and staff are all very accommodating and nothing is too much to ask for. If they can they will!
The food was to die for all home made including the chips! I recommend the Gourmet burger. it was massive!
The lovely lady who did the cleaning opened up for us at 8am to make us a cuppa as she thought we would have frozen during the night ,bless.
Anyway, enough rambling, go and see Derek and see for yourself how lovely he is.

This is an idyllic location, with gorgeous views at every angle. From staying at the Duke of York I received a real feel for Derbyshire countryside. It is perfect for pet owners, we took our dog, who loved the availability of long walks.
The pub itself is a very welcoming place, with a friendly and homely atmosphere. The barman/runner of this establishment is welcoming from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. From helping you find a spot to place your caravan to serving the drinks. The food is delicious and reasonably priced with a choice to suit everyone from a child's menu, to vegetarians and everyone else. No matter what your needs they will try there best to suit them.
Also with the site being only ten minutes from Buxton town it is a perfect getaway for families and couples alike. I know I will be returning and would advise fellow campers to visit this particular site when in the area

I recently visited the Duke of York and would definitely return. The Campsite has outstanding views and lots of room for children and pets. Pets are welcomed as long as they are under control.
The toilet/shower facilities are basic but clean. There is a small children's playground and room for ball games on site.
The campsite is ten minutes from Buxton by Car and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. The Tissington Trail is very close by and lots of other walks are available.
After a long day walking this country pub also serves great traditional meals and has a very welcoming atmosphere.

What lovely views across the peaks, basic facilities but clean. Lovely Publicans serving food. Relax in-front of a warm inviting coal fire. We have just spent three nights at this site and found it to be in a central position on the main A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road, with easy gain to Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Biggin, and the Tissington trail. We shall most certainly return.

Public House on the A515 Buxton/Ashborne road some 5 miles out of Buxton. Under new management and currently allow overnighting with prior arrangement. There are at this time 2 off 240vac 13A plugs available + very basic facilities but plans afoot to provide standard 16A connectors and modern sanitary facilities.
07.12.08. Overnighting could be FOC when meals are bought in the Restaurant. Food tasty, limited choice but reasonably priced.
Expect to pay per night during the high season.
Walks and views associated with the Peak District are available in close proximity to the site.
As stated in other reviews it can be raw and refreshing but worth a visit to the area.

Stayed here for two nights in September. We were the only ones there. Views from the campsite were beautiful, but the site is pretty exposed so quite windy.
The toilet block was located in an old outhouse which was not heated and was full of spiders. The shower was on a timer - £1 for 5 mins.
There was no hot water or washing up facilities.
The pub on site had a fire going and the owners seemed friendly, but again the pub was very quiet.
Price was £4 per person per night.

Visited over spring bank holiday, stayed for 3 nights. Could not pick a bad pitch, although limited electric hookup points & no hard standing. Brilliant views from every angle although very exposed to all the wonderful British weather conditions. It blew a constant gale for all 3 days but didn't let that spoil it. Lovely walks to be had & 5mins from the Tissington trail where you can hire bikes for around £12 for 4 hours. Buxton about 10min drive away & lots of lovely little villages dotted around. The campsite itself has very basic facilities, 1 ladies toilet 1 gents toilet & 1 communal shower that leaves a lot to be desired. It is situated directly behind the pub which is an absolute treasure & the landlord is a star. He is very approachable & will do any thing asked. The pub has open fires, real ales & serves good food if you can't be bothered to cook. Nothing for kids but plenty of wide open space to play ball games. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves & will visit again deffinately.
