Stayed here 2 non-consecutive nights. It was actually our first ever pitch for a motorhome. We arrived on a dark and stormy night, Derrick came out in the rain to help sort us, and had us park out on the pavement as the field was mucky.

Great freeview reception and internet via our O2 dongle for a tenner a night.

Simply gorgeous views all around. The dogs loved it, we could take them out into a field and let them run around to their heart's content, supervised, of course.

Very convenient location to lots of Peak district stuff. Pub seemed nice, although we didn't eat there. Thought it was nice that well behaved dogs are allowed in the pub. There was a play area for kids, but there weren't any kids around in November. Bonus!

Facilities are a bit run down, but not horrible. Didn't use the shower, but it cost £1 if you were to need it. Shower and 2 bathrooms all in one little shed area. Very basic, but they didn't stop us from coming back after going to a more expensive site for one night.

Backing the motorhome into the area for water and waste disposal was a bit of an adventure. But then again, it only cot £10. What do you want? :)

As others have mentioned, there's a petition to sign to keep the site from being shut down. We added our signatures.

My husband and I visited this site and lovely pub a couple of weekends ago using the Mirror vouchers

When we arrived we were greeted by Derek, the landlord who showed us to our hookup. It had been raining heavily so the ground was little wet just at the entrance to the main field, but we had no other bother with the ground.

The facilities are clean, but basic. One shower and two loo's, but that didn't bother us as we use our own.

TV reception is pretty poor; not sure if there is freeview but we used our satellite. Radio and mobile (02) OK.

We ate in the pub both nights and had a really good meal on both nights which were very reasonably priced. Suggest you book the restaurant at the weekends.

Nearby Buxton is well worth a visit, so are Longnor and Hartington

If you like very traditional pubs, do try the Quiet Woman at Earl Sterndale (about 10 mins from site). It doesn't do food, but very good beer and its like stepping back in time. (check out the pub sign too!)

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would visit again

Excellent basic site in a central position between Buxton and Bakewell. We did go using the mirror camping offer 95p a night so great value not sure on regular price.

5 star host (nothing was to much trouble, and had time to chat)and good staff with good value meals (we had the Sunday roast which was nice).

Excellent views and plenty of walks in this area for the beginner or more accomplished walker.

The pub is adjacent a main road but this again didn't stop us from getting a good night sleep.

The site is most definitely open (please sign the petition to let others still enjoy this site)and we'll be going back there.

What can I say just had a fantastic 2 nights here. Derek is a top landlord and keeps all his ales and lagers in pristine condition. The site is fantastic, the view in the morning is tremendous. The pub has as great atmosphere, good food, and beer and food reasonably priced. As previously mentioned toilets could do with upgrading but were clean enough. Only one shower though so timing to use it was important. Will definitely be returning as what it cost me to stay there for 2 nights were cheaper than my usual taxi fare. Met some great people and will be gutted if the brewery do close the camping side of the business. If you do turn a blind eye to the toilet situation or weighy it up as a whole this is a great place where you are made to feel welcome and can genuinely chill. Am going back in a couple of weeks to sup sit and escape

Just spent 2 weeks at the Duke of York. And what a great place it is. We booked here because I was having a Helicopter flight from here, so it made sense to camp here too. Derek the landlord of the pub is a true gentleman, he told us we could put the tent more or less where we wanted to, we had booked for hookup and we pitched on the bottom field over looking the valley, it was a glorious view. This field has a slight slope but the other 2 are fine. We pitched up late afternoon 5pm ish and went to the pub for some food and beer, the food is good and the beer is wow, I loved the Unicorn by Robinson, its a great beer. The facilities are basic 2 toilets 1 for men 1 for women and 1 shower, however from 8am you can use the pub toilets. Some road noise is heard due to the A515 being there but it didn't put us off.

Peak park are trying to close this site so if you have a moment pop into the pub and sign the petition, it would be such a waste to let it go.

A small children's play area is available behind the pub for the young ones, and dogs are welcome if under control.

Again this is a great place to camp and we are booked in again in October, and can not wait to get back.

Arrived at 830 on friday night, called to pub to book in and was met by a real nice guy called dereck, the landlord. £5 per night. Thats it, 4 people and two dogs for a fiver a night. Anyway gladly paid my 10 pounds and Dereck showed me where to pitch, the choice was 'anywhere'. Lol.

3 fields to choose from. So we pitched up. The ground is excellent for pegs, hardly a hammer needed. There wasn't too many campers there when we went so we were pitched a fair bit away from everyone else. (having dogs) called to pub at night for a night cap. Not impressed with unicorn best bitter but I'll leave that for CAMRA to review. The lounge bit was too busy so me and the wife had to sit round the corner on our own, being anti-social I kinda enjoyed the solace.

The shower was that. One shower and it took a 1 pound coin. Cant comment on it because I stayed scruffy. There was two toilets one male and one female, they were adequate as far as toilets go, no bells or whistles but for 5 pound per night. Apparently they were going to upgrade but having trouble with the local council they have put all plans on hold.

Camp field 1 and 2 are next to the a515 so in the day you can hear the traffic with no problems, but at night it was ok.

Field 3 is further away and I guess would be a bit quieter.

To sum up, an excellent place to stay, excellent landlord and adequate services. But for 5 pounds a night how can you complain.

Had a Friday/Saturday night stay here - £5 per night for a family (WOW!). Ate in the pub each night where the food is basic but enjoyable and value for money.

Staff, especially the owner, are very good and helpful if slightly organised although this didn't really distract from the overall experience.

Basically you pitch where you like as long as its in the right field - separate fields for tents and motor homes / caravans. There must have been in excess of a dozen tents in the field but most people pitched near the edges which gave the kids (and adults) enough room to play football or cricket etc without the tests / cars getting in the way.

Fields are reasonably flat (given the location), views are what you expect from the Peak District - stunning. Good base for the major areas of the Peak District.

I've left the problem to the last! Washing and toilet facilities are, to be honest, poor. The owner has plans to improve these but everything is on hold as the Peak District Authority are planning on closing down this site and others as well. Don't know the rationale for the closure but I'm sure money for the authority is a major factor. There is a petition at the bar with a good number of signatures which I duly signed!

Overall, we had a good stay (weather was also good) and, for a weekend stay, I would certainly go back or even just to eat in on the way back home from a stay further afield. To make me stay longer the wash / toilet facilities have to be improved. If they are this site has the making of a great place. I encourage anyone who stays here to sign the petition to keep it open and also for anyone else who just happens to pass - stop and sign!

On entering the site we were met by the landlord 'derek' (an absolutely cracking fella who was very helpful, friendly and charming throughout our stay!) who showed us the field to camp on if you have a fire-pit which was huge! The bottom of the field looked to have mostly family's so we headed for the top near to the road as it seemed more relaxed up that end as we had our three (well behaved and always under complete control!) dogs and a fire-pit and just wanted to kick back and relax for the two days.

This campsite is great for any type of camping as there's 3 large fields, one for caravans / motorhomes, one for tents and the other we just saw the tops of caravans and the odd large tent from were we where, all quite big fields though.

The toilet blocks very basic with a mens and ladies toilet that each have a sink in and one separate shower, all very basic but fairly clean! the pub's great as there are three separate outside areas to sit and a lovely little kids playground. We ate lunch and our evening meal in there and all food was very good, but no local ales just robinson's beers and fosters and suchlike! (they have glenmorange, all we needed really lol!)

As said we camped up at the top near the more noisier people, they all went quiet for 12oclock though and me and my husband sat by the fire (quietly!) till 1oclock till it started raining and the whole site was very quiet from then till we woke at 10.30! (amazing lie-in for camping!).

A fab site that we will return to in July, if you go to this site and you enjoy it then you must sign the petition behind the bar as the council want to shut some peak district campsites and this is one of them and its heartbreaking to know that having found a site that can grow with us as our family grows over the coming years, that it could shut is just madness!

Just got back from a great weekend camping at the Duke of York, we stayed here a few years back & loved it only to find on our return it had changed hands. The new owners had increased the price & the food was dreadful but at last it has now been taken over by someone that knows what they are doing.

£5 per pitch per night (Bargain), fantastic food & very reasonable, basic toilets but the pub opens it's doors at 8am so the pub toilets can be used all day for the campers. There are plans to improve the toilet / shower facilities but they are currently on hold due to the plans by The Peak National Park (see below)

Derek & his team are so friendly & helpful & this shows, the restaurant & the pub is always busy with a great atmosphere & it is well worth a visit.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this site, and have to say that overall it was a really good break. Fair enough the toilets and shower need some work doing to bring them up to date but overall you get what you pay for, near to the Tissington Trail, Ashbourne and Buxton ideal location.

The pubs food was very good and the staff were very good they really made you feel welcome, will visit again
