We enjoyed this site. The scenery is stunning. There was space for games of badminton between the units, the grass was well drained and mown. The atmosphere was tranquil and peaceful with very little road noise. Great for a family weekend away from it all.

Firstly, a quick note; I rang the site the day before arriving on the Sunday to check there would be space. I was told there was plenty of space and there was no need to book.
On arriving, there was a 'site full' sign outside, although we did manage to get into one of 2 remaining spaces. As it had been quite a long drive to the site, we were fortunate that 2 other motorhomes hadn't occupied the remaining pitches.
I would suggest that a definite booking is made before arrival if possible.
The site itself is ok, there is a large gravel section on the lakeside, so it feels like you are launching your dinghy / canoe etc. From a large car park; which you are in a way.
The site has wide tarmac roads running through and it spoils the feeling of camping in a field; it feels more like camping by the side of a road. It sounds petty, but I haven't seen a site like this before.
Toilets are OK, although no soap at the sinks. They don't smell terrible, but aren't great either.
Bala is a couple of miles away and a reasonably flat cycle ride.
All in all, I was annoyed at the booking situation, but you live and learn. The site itself is good, but not great.

Just returned from this site after a weeks holiday with the family. The general site is very good outstanding views of snowdonia and the area is very tranquil. The site was quite boggy when we were there and certain parts of the tent field had to be closed but the people running the site did their best to accommodate by offering other pitches on the site. Its a very large site but also surprisingly quiet and peaceful even though there are plenty of children about. The shower and toilet block are very spacious and adequately clean and tidy plenty of loo roll etc. The showers run of a button which needs to keep being pressed but are hot and free with plenty of room in them for your belongings. The children's play area is a little near to the road which as already been mentioned but if the children are supervised then its not a problem. The staff were helpful and polite when we arrived and we were offered a choice of three pitches all of which were very good. Husband was a bit disappointed with the fishing on site as there wasn't really anywhere suitable to fish the lake which is directly on the site was always full of windsurfers and children in dingys etc and they also come up and down the river which runs along the site so not ideal fishing conditions. Also if planning to go fishing take plenty of bait with you as there is nowhere in bala that sells much fishing stuff only a small shop which sells worms. In bala itself there is a somerfield and spar a couple of pubs newsagents take aways and then just general shops selling bits of everything but most things are catered for. All in all a very nice site and would recommend

We decided at the last minute to take a four day camping trip to Wales & it proved well worth the risk as we found this site to be probably one of the most picturesque sites I have ever visited with beautiful views of the lake & the surrounding mountains.
We spoke to the owner the week before we arrived & was assured that there was loads of room & that there was no need to book. We arrived on Monday 28th July to find the advice we had been given was absolutely spot on, the site is huge with plenty of space for tents.
Its a flat site so pitching a tent is just about as easy as you can get. The site is split into camping from the middle to the left side of the site & across the bottom near the lake. The caravans etc which require hook up are from the middle to the right hand side of the site.
A river runs down the left side of the site & into the lake at the bottom end of the site where there is a small gravel beach from which boats can be launched. There is plenty of water about so take the mosquito repellant etc, we were bitten like mad.
The showers & toilets were in seperate buildings for the gentleman although they are fairly close together. The ladies also had two buildings but I gather from my partner that there were showers in both buildings.
The showers themselves were reasonably powerful & hot but didnt tend to stay on for very long before you had to hit the button again. There was a distinct lack of soap in the gents but again I understand that there was some in the ladies. There were a few missing hooks etc in the gents showers but they were reasonably well kept & clean.
There is a small shop on site & a play area at the front of the site for the kids but a bit near a main road for my liking & good way away from the tent pitches. Children really need to be supervised as the road quite often has vehicles travelling at high speed.
Bala is just over 3 miles away & has a Spar & Co-op for those little forgotten items. There are also a number of places to eat at night if you like to get off site occasionally. For a touch of class try Plas Yn Dre on the high street, offering beautiful food in a really lovely dining room. If it's just a bar meal that you want try Gwesty'r Plas Coch, again great food.

When we arrived reception was shut but there was a friendly notice telling everyone to select their pitch and saying when the office/shop would be open to pay.
The site was quite empty as it was early in the season. A lovely location and nice and clean. You can get everything you need in near by Bala but nothing is within walking distance of the camp site itself.
The toilets etc were ok but I wasn't brave enough to have a shower while we were there as the toilet blocks were freezing!
There is no lighting in the washing up room so make sure your dishes are done by dusk!
As mentioned in other reviews, there is a nice park/play area for the kids but it is right by the site entrance, the busy road and out of view of most of the pitches which meant we couldn't let the kids use it without us being there.
We enjoyed our stay here and I would recommend the site to others.

We didn't receive a very warm welcome when we arrived even though we had booked well in advance which was discouraging. The site provided was nice and flat, we weren't too close to the other tents and were able to park alongside which was very helpful.
The shower block was ok, the water was hot but had no soap at the sinks.
I didn't appreciate the rubbish being collected at 6:30am on the Monday morning, but as the bins were overflowing, it was needed!
The site was incredibly busy, there were a lot of others camping as you can imagine on a campsite of this size, however we had no problems with noise from other campers and our stay was generally pleasant.

Lovely flat site. We arrived on a Friday evening and there were no restrictions on where to pitch and lots of choice.
The toilet block was basic but seemed clean, it would have been good to have some soap near the sinks. There are plenty of showers, again basic but lots of hot water and clean.
As mentioned in previous reviews the playground is nowhere near the pitches and out of view. It is near a busy road and I would not let my 9 and 6 year olds go alone.
The chip shop in the centre of Bala did lovely fresh fish and is worth a visit.
A good site and would recommend to others.

The facilities at this camp site are fantastic. The staff were very friendly, helpful and easy going. We were there on a very busy weekend, whilst my boyfriend took part in the Bala Triathlon, and we were very pleased with the site. The toilets and showers were spotless, and there were plenty of them. There is plenty to do around there, and the town centre itself is lovely. We will definitely be returning along with the children, as there is lots for them to do on teh site and in the surrounding area.

Having read some of the reviews on this site, here is our take on things.
Site location next to the lake is great, very picturesque. Found the play area and shop nice. But the one thing that did put you off was the condition of the toilet / showers.
Hot water for the showers was limited, toilets not cleaned well and the queues for any of the facilities were long. This was mainly due to overcrowding on the site and a waivering of the 'no groups' rule that is quoted. Noisy nights and campfires throughout.
Won't be returning, which is a shame as the location was amazing.

Just got home from a weekend in North Wales, decided to go a few days early and stayed on this site on Wednesday & Thursday night. Finding the site was quite easy as its main entrance is on the Road into Bala. The Site itself sits on the side of the Lake and has its own beach front where boats can be launched onto the lake. Permits are required for sailing and fishing on Bala Lake, however thes can be obtained from Pay and Display machines in the car park by Bala Tourist Information Centre or purchased from the local warden who visits the Campsite daily at 11:00.
The Site is quite large with Caravans limited to the top half of the site, beyond that point only Tents and Campers. The site has Two Toilet and Shower blocks for either sex. Both were kept clean to an adequate standard as was the washing facilities containing washing machines if required. Each shower room had a coin operated hair dryer however the one in the gents shower room was out of action at the time.
There is a small shop in the reception building however this was not the local supermarket or hardware store and only sold a few items along maps, guides, with sweets for the kids. This was not really a major problem with Bala town being literally a two minute drive up the road.
There is a small play area that children can use, but my 12 year old daughter did not make use of it. Without a doubt the main attraction of this site is its frontage onto the lake. The children were making full use of this. The lake is quite shallow around the site and it is possible to venture out to fifty or some times one hundred yards without the water going much above knee height. This was ideal for my daughters first adventure in her blow up dingy bought at the local shop for £13 including oars. She had a fantastic couple of days boating and swimming. I did attempt the fishing when the lake quieted down in the evening but, despite the stories of the 4lb pike caught there only last week I had no luck and I consider the water too shallow at that point to be very productive unless using light tackle in search of the odd minnow.
There is no clubhouse or bar on the site but far from detracting from the site I feel this adds that little something to it. For what you have hear is a very good spacious site where families get the opportunity to play and relax together in a very attractive area surrounded by wonderful Welsh Countryside.
This was a return to camping for myself and my wife after a long time away and, it was the first time my daughter had ever been camping. We approached this trip with some trepidation with both of us being older now and both with slight mobility problems. However after the first night in the tent and being awoke by a marvelous dawn chorus. With my twelve year old awaking at 6:30 without an alarm clock or any prompting but, purely eager to get started on another day of this newly discovered way of life. It was on the Thursday afternoon that as she played happily in the Lake with newly found friends I and my wife sat in the fold up chairs tanning in the sun red wine in hand, that my wife expressed it perfectly 'I have missed this' and this was the ideal site for our return to camping.
