The scenery that surrounds this site is magnificent! We stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The site itself has a lot to offer. There is an on site shop that is very well stocked so no need to panic if you forget anything.
There are three blocks located at the top of the site - ladies toilet, ladies showers/gents showers then gents toilets. The facilities are very good.
While the actual buildings look basic everything is clean and there is ample hot water. Like others I was a bit perplexed by the 11 - 5 showering rule but actually it didn't cause a problem!
Only problem is if you were in a tent it could be quite a hike to the toilets depending where you pitch - but in a caravan this wasn't really an issue.
The site is large with easy access to lake Bala. There is a fair sized fenced good quality child's playground just outside the site next to reception. A very minor gripe would be it would be a bit nicer if this was located within the campsite (although I guess child free campers will consider this a bonus!)
Bala is a short drive away with everything you could need really - try the food from Gerard's bakers - very tasty! There is a reasonable sized co op and spar in Bala.
There are a number of pubs too - some look more inviting than others but we didn't try any while we were here. If you want any bigger (chain!) stores then you need to travel further afield (we had an urge for M & S curry - we drove to Wrexham which was 34 miles away!).
The pitches were level and extremely spacious. On arrival I was asked whether I wanted hardstandings or grass and the helpful lady took us directly to the pitch.
We would definitely revisit this site - it's well suited for any body who is interested in magnificent scenery and cycle / walking / water sports!

Quite a large campsite located on the edge of Bala Lake. It offers free watersports to guests and allocated fishing. There are two blocks one mens and one womens with a few showers and toilets, however they are closed after a certain time.
They do offer electric hook ups but we had to pay a £60 deposit for the adaptor. We decided to pitch next to the river and because it was the start of April it was quite cold.
As it was the start of the season the on site shop didn't have much stock so we took a trip into Bala which had we not had a car, would of been a very long walk.
The staff were quite helpful and gave us some leaflets for things to do in the area.
Bala is a great little town/village and has a good selection of pubs and great places to eat.

Third visit to this site, it was Whit week so really busy at all times.
Showers very clean and plenty of hot water although the showers are now at selected times only which was not previously the case - this means no showers between 11-5, however this didn't cause problems despite the camp site being very busy and there were no need to wait.
Despite how busy it was it was quiet by 12:00 which always surprises me given the numbers camping.
The camp shop had all the extras you need and the lake was brilliant, especially with warm weather. Will go back again next year

I have been visiting this site for over ten years. Its location and views are second to none. Depending on who greets you on arrival, the welcome can vary, when it is busy one of the owners gets a bit stressed. Just nod politely and move on.
They don't accept groups but we have had as many as 40+ on site individually booked. All families, in tents, caravans and well behaved.
The toilets and showers are above average, there are plenty of toilets and shower available. This year a restriction of shower times between 11.00am and 5.00pm have been imposed
Bala town is very welcoming, it has a wide variety of shops, public houses and eating places.
There is a white water centre about 5 miles away, a very exiting day out.
All in all, a place I love to go each year, just need to sort the shower times out please

This was our first visit to this site and indeed to the world of camping. First of all we were greeted very warmly by the lady in reception and another lady who I believe was the owner, the facilities on the site were excellent and I couldn't find fault with at all, plenty of hot water and very clean toilet and shower blocks. Only one small criticism and that was ball games around the tent area although the perpetrators had been told by the owner it wasn't allowed but they didn't pay any attention and this was the adults.
The small town of Bala had a small variety of shops and a couple of good restaurants and 1 or 2 not so good so pick carefully. I'm looking forward to going back again in the not too distant future as we had such a good time and look forward to more camping of this standard. Well done to all the staff and Meg

Went to Glanllyn as a last minute get away in the new tent. The site is a two minute drive outside Bala. The site was well laid out and looks out over the lake and hills. Very pretty. Theres a little shop next to reception that stocks the basics.
As it was early on in the year we went with EHU but in the end we hardly needed it it was so mild. The field is pretty flat and the pegs went in with no problems.
The toilets and shower blocks were very clean. Showers have free hot water. There is a small playground for the kids.
We have a young family (3 & 5yrs) and found that unless your into walking or watersports, the is not too much for youngsters in the area around Bala.
Overall the site was lovely and would recommend it.

Stayed at Glanllyn over the Easter Bank hol with a family group.
Superb location right on the lake, fantastic for water sports. Bala town, which sells most things easily accessible by cycle or car. Steam railway and even bowling alley very close by. Great for kids, there is a play area on site if they get bored. Well stocked site shop, with camping essentials, gas, ball games.
Site well laid out/landscaped with good facilities, plenty of free showers, toilets and water taps. Pitches are spacious.
I have two criticisms of this site - our group (which consisted of 4 couples and 1 family) was given a very unfriendly welcome on arrival. Despite us having booked by phone and email in January/February and made sure they were happy to accept a group booking, (as we are aware many campsites do not accept groups) they seemed completely unaware of this and quite shocked. They didn't seem keen on letting us on site, and said that they would ask us to leave if we didn't behave. They said that they had already had to ask a group to leave that morning. While we appreciated that unpleasant experience was probably still raw for them, it wasn't really necessary to treat paying customers like that. We are experienced campers who are aware of campsite etiquette, and they had already sent a list of rules with our deposit confirmation that stated any rule breakers would be asked to leave.
My second criticism of this site is that it is very popular with dog owners, which is fine, they provide a dog walking area and their rules state that dog owners must keep dogs on a lead and clean up their mess. Unfortunately this rule does not seem to be enforced, there were dogs seen running around off the lead all the time. Consequently, there is a problem with dog muck on this campsite. We saw it in several places, one of our group had to ask the owner to remove some from one of our pitches on arrival.
We had a great stay despite these two issues I would recommend this campsite due to the facilities, location and scenery. Will definitely return to the area to explore further.

I quite liked the site, the toilets and showers were clean and there was soap and toilet roll in the ladies.
The children's play area was popular with the children in our group and It felt like a safe site for children on bikes.
However, we had a similar experience to another poster. When my friend booked a caravan pitch she asked if it would be possible to put up a pup tent for myself and my 8 year old and we were told that was no problem, we also told the owner that I would not be arriving at the same time as the rest of the party, we were told this was no problem.
When the I arrived it obviously was a problem and I was told I would have to put the pup tent on the tent field. I had only bought a small tent, no cooking equipment or extra kit as I was eating all my meals with the friends in the caravan. I explained my position and also that we had spoken to them at least twice to let them know I would be arriving later.
In the end I was allowed to put up my small tent next to the caravan but I was charged £36 for 2 nights for myself and an 8 year old child. The caravan only had a porch awning and was in a really large area so space was not the issue.
This has made me reluctant to stay here again which is a shame because it is quite a nice site.

On arrival the wind was forcing the rain to fall horizontally, undeterred we registered and followed the lady, on her bike, to our pitch. It was explained we should pitch on green grass rather than where the previous tent had been pitched, allowing the grass to recover, this has the benefit that pitches tend to be large allowing tents to be pitched in a different place each time.
Even though the site was to be full, our request to reserve the pitch next to ours, for our friends who were to arrive the next day (total party 4 adults and 3 children under 9), was accommodated. Pitched the tent (only one broken pole!), went to have a shower, came out of the shower and wind and rain had stopped!
The facilities on this site are excellent (clean, well maintained and plentiful) comprising three buildings, on the top of an incline, containing washing room (sinks, washing machines and driers), gents toilets, gents and ladies fixed temperature showers, ladies toilets and rubbish bins.
The site shop stocks essentials such as milk, bread and ice-cream. Bala is not far away, for anything the shop does not have, for a meal out or a takeaway.
Roads around the site are narrow and clearly marked as being one way, clockwise from the site entrance, during our visit this was adhered to except for the occasional car driver with a misplaced sense of direction!
The children’s play area is off the main site (on the left at the site entrance). The swings, climbing frame, “surf-boards” see-saw and springy horse are all of excellent quality and in full working order. The play area has a thick bouncy surface of chipped bark with a sturdy fence all around (and waste bins). Adjacent to the play area is a dog exercise area, as dogs are supposed to be kept on a lead on the main site
Many of the large and flat pitches have electric hook-up. Sensibly, it looked as though electric was not available at the pitches next to the lake. We were pitched next to the river, one third of the way down the site. Tent pegs went into the ground, which was surprisingly dry considering the rainfall, without any problems (a first for us), except the occasional peg that hit something hard, moving it a few inches solved that particular problem.
The major attraction of this site is Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) and the large launching area for various types of watercraft, or beach for the kids, for whom the river running into the lake also proved a huge success. A Warden visits during the day, for the purchase of lake boating permits.
Overall, we had an enjoyable four days, despite variable and plentiful weather. The facilities cannot be faulted, are clean and well maintained. We would have no hesitation in returning.

Stayed for 3 nights in August. Friendly and informative check in. Great views from any where on the site either of mountains or the lake.
We faced the mountains, as when we arrived it was very windy. Some nice campers helped with the tent as we broke a pole on the first attempt.
Good site for groups as there are no strict pitch boundaries.
AMENITIES: Many water taps around the site.
Toilet and shower blocks clean and well maintained. No plugs for hairdryer but they do have 2 of their own at 20p per time. Toilet blocks are only a short walk from anywhere on the site.
Pot wash area undercover with 2 washing machines and dryers also (chargeable).
Reception and shop equiped with local information and maps as well as groceries. Also have an ice block freezing service.
Kids play park on the site, also as is is mainly flat it is good for them to bike ride.
LOCATION: Bala about 3 miles away. There is a bike/walking path but we decided to drive (about 5 minutes). A few pubs and shops. Also a spar and co-op.
South end of Mount Snowdon just over an hour away. Barmouth 45 minutes away - a lovely seaside town.
Love the site and would come again.
