If you like pristine toilet blocks, a relaxing peaceful atmosphere then this is not the place for you.
A very impressive list of site amenities but unfortunately they did not all match the description. A good clubhouse with good food served up in the adjoining restaurant. Lots of 'contractors' vehicles parked in the 'late arrivals' area. We got the impression that the site had several permanent residents who may have worked locally and used the caravan compound just inside the barrier entrance.

We awoke at 6.00am to quite an accomplished piper playing 'Scotland the Brave' from the army training camp opposite. This was followed by 'Reveille' then the 'cookhouse' bugle call. Quite reminiscent of my RN days. A ten minute stroll to the shingle beach overlooking Stokes Bay and the Isle of Wight. An added bonus for me was the the US carrier, USS 'Enterprise' anchored in Stokes Bay. Too large to go alongside in Pompey. Plenty of sailboarders and yachtsmen out in the bay.
The local bus service was both cheap and running on time to Gosport, Lee on Solent, and Fareham, (Saturday market).

Site pitches are unmarked, with caravans, tents and motorhomes all mixed up, and probably too close together. Site roads rough and uneven.

A lot of TLC and expenditure required to bring the site up to a good standard.

We found this site by accident. Thought it was nice and green, a few bushes and trees sprinkled about. Good club house, bar. We were slightly put off by a handfull of caravans, whose residents obviously lived on site, probably working locally. These vans were quite scruffy and shabby and let the park down a bit, plus the noise/swearing the residents made coming home from the bar at 11pm.

We spent four night camping at the site, and found it comfortable and well laid out. The site was well looked after, the toilets were cleaned regularly and the shop appeared to be well stocked. Our only caveat was the lack of anywhere for the children to play with a ball, there appeared to be a fair number of children (not just ours) on the site who wanted to kick a ball about. We will certainly return, probably without the children

The entrance to the park was lovely, however marred by several old caravans to the left for sale or free to a good home, a very bad initial impression. The lady on reception was very kind, but her counter looked like a bombsite. The site needs some TLC, several old caravans, obviously permanently sited, need to be removed, looked like they hadn't been used for years. Toilets and showers were acceptable, restaurant was very good indeed, we sat in the new conservatory extension and it was lovely. The clubhouse is obviously used by locals, it was quite busy, that said it was quiet by 10.30. We did hear noise from the army camp, to our amusement, me beng niave, thought it was fireworks, when they were doing their target practice!

A reasonable weekend trip, at only £13 a night, despite our initial reservations we did enjoy the weekend!

Although this campsite probably has very good facilities, (didnt stay to find out) the fact that it has an army base on one side and a seven foot barbwire fence and council flats on the other, put me off.

Nice and flat with a busy clubhouse which serves good value food. Importantly, the clubhouse does not generate too much noise after about 11 o'clock (which for those of us in flimsy tents is a good thing!!)

Showers and other faclilites clean and well-looked after.

Not an especially pretty place to camp and no real sense of seclusion or privacy but pleasant enough. The beach is only 10 minutes walk away.

I have visited this site quite a few times. It has an extremely good restaurant and large bar, with separate but attached childrens indoor and outdoor areas. They regularly have live entertainment during the main season and, although close to Gosport and Portsmouth (via harbour ferry) it is quiet and secluded to a degree. Stokes Bay is just a short walk down the road where you can fish, swim, jet-ski and windsurf or sunbathe and eat ice cream.

I used this campsite because my son lives on the Isle of Wight and as I did not want to take my campervan over on the ferry I decided on a mainland site.
I looked in the various campsite books and discovered this on quite by accident.
1st this site is of a medium size with quite a few on site activities.
It has a small shop where you can get a reasonable selection of food.
A nice bar and resturant which serves very good food as well as having a childrens play area.
From right outside the gates a frequent bus service runs directly to the Gosport Ferry. From here you can catch the catamaran from Portsmouth Harbour Station to the Isle of Wight or trains directly to places such as Chichester,Brighton or even London.
The campsite is well run and popular with families. The site is level with good standings for campervans like mine. I will be returning to this site in a few weeks as a visit to my son is about due.
