Large site, busy on Sat night in the tent field; we camped in the touring field and were the only campers for most of the week. Great views of the surrounding hills. Tent field is quite exposed, the touring field less so. Owners are very friendly and the site is extremely well run.

Toilets/showers were fine: 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 washbasins for each sex. Free showers and water was hot, washbasin water was warm. Kept clean despite the almost non-stop rain for the whole week. There is also one sink for washing up in a separate building along with another toilet and fridge/freezer.

Bishops Castle is a short walk away either by footpath or road - no more than 10 mins for either. The town has 2 excellent real-ale brewery pubs plus a further four pubs, all but one provide food (The Vaults does not do food but has live music on Thursday nights and also sells real cider and perry). All sell good real ale. Beware Sunday closing at 10:30pm!

There is a small Indian restaurant, a Chinese takeaway and a chip shop open to midnight plus cafes in the daytime.

Overall, a very good site close to very good local facilities plus easy to travel by car to the Long Mynd /Wenlock Edge etc if you are into walking the wonderful Shropshire countryside.

This was our first time camping and we really enjoyed it, apart from the weather. The facilities were a lot better than expected. There was always hot running water, a new shower block with 3 female showers and 3 toilets, also separate toilet. Good kitchen facilities with a fridge and freezer.

Only complaint is that is would be good to have power points in the shower block for haidryers and straighteners. Nice little walk into the beautiful village with good shops, local area is lovely with lots of attractions in the surrounding area. Overall a really good stay with friendly staff and even friendlier dogs! We will be back!

This is a good campsite in a lovely part of shropshire , a good base for access for walking in the area. Bishops castle is 10 minutes walk across the field or few minutes more via road. It is an interesting larger village with a few pubs/ hotels where there is fine choice of great beer and good food. Facilities much improved recently with a new toilet / shower block , which makes this site a preferred choice . The field is spacious , though slightly exposed on high ground, but gives an airy feel with fine views. Recommended , especially in fine weather.

I was very sceptical about this site having read the reviews prior to going: especially the bit about the queues for the loos. But we were welcomed with the news that a new toilet block had been built! We never had to queue (but the loo roll had run out nearly every time). There was a serious lack of washing up facilities: one sink!

The views were fabulous, though, and for that alone I would return to this site. 'Exposed' is an understatement. Two fleeces, a waterproof and a 17 tog duvet and I still wasn't warm - in May! Next time I go it will be high summer!

For kids: no play area, but we took bat and ball and had loads of space to play games.

A very enjoyable weekend.

Nice little site this one. Friendly enough owners and pretty good facilities.

They are currently building the shower blocks, but will probably be very nice when they are done, although best take your flip flops to the shower as the whole floor gets very wet. Good (and very warm) wash up facilities.

We went in the tourer field, which was quite lucky as I think the tent fields may have been a bit exposed. You also get a stunning view across the Shropshire hills.

I would use again, especially for short breaks.

The owners are very friendly as are their dogs.

The site was empty when we arrived and stayed that way probably due to the rain, hail & gailforce winds. That aside, this is a lovely peaceful site with basic but more than adequate washing / showering facilities. Fires are allowed provided you dig a hole/ use a fire pit. You'll need to bring your own wood (plenty of places in town to get it from).

Bishops Castle itself is a short walk over some fields (the walk back is a killer though!). There are some lovely pubs, especially if you enjoy your real ales.

I wouldn't recommend the chinese takeaway as they kept us waiting well over an hour and the food was rubbish!

To summarise. Great site, will be going back!

Had a fantastic weekend on this campsite. Very busy as the michaelmas fair was on. However when the sun is shining the views are stunning, (I have experienced both good and very bad weather up here, the difference? about 1 crate of stella I guess!.
Very short walk into town to taste real ales well worth it, good food at three tuns and nice curry house although quite small inside so take-away might be better. Having read some of the reviews on this campsite the main problems were the showers or lack of them, yes I agree there is only one for each sex and one family / disabled, however they are turning an old out-building into showers hopefully over this winter, anyway have you never heard of a strip wash!
Worth checking out the bishops castle web site for future events as not much going on in the town.

We stayed two nights of the Bank Holiday weekend. When we booked we were warned that the site would be busy, but on arrival we found plenty of room on the main field and found a spot at the top of the hill which had glorious views of the open countryside. We did a number of walks whilst we were there, each of which had fantastic views and the Shropshire Way runs alongside the campsite.

The site has a very relaxed feel.

The campsite is about 15 minutes walk to Bishop's Castle across a field (remember to take your torch for the walk back). The town has a number of good pubs, although if you want to eat in any of them it is advisable to book beforehand. There is small chip shop which sells pizzas etc which is open quite late and a very small Indian Restaurant. Unfortunately for us the curry wasn't upto much and we left rather disappointed. There is a Co-op in the town which is well-stocked.

For a campsite of this size the washing/toilet facilities are very poor. One male, one female and one family wetroom and a portacabin with toilets and only cold water. Even at 6.30am there was a queue for the showers. When I finally did have a shower, it was operated by a push-button which didn't last for long.

On the whole a good site with stunning views, just a shame about the showers.

We visited the site over the Bank Holiday Weekend, and it was as we expected - busy!. Foxholes is a very pleasant campsite, with lots of space, but if you get there late you might find yourself perched halfway up the hill, and not on flat ground. However, it is in a nice location:)

We arrived on Friday, and by Saturday the campsite was very full. There were not enough toilet/shower facilities. The toilets and showers were arranged in 'wet room' style, meaning that if someone was in the toilet, you couldnt use the shower - 3 showers for over 100 tents = a lot of smelly campers!

The campsite owners seemed to take no notice of a large group of people with at least 4 tents who decided to have an open fire - burning anything they could get their hands on it seemed - the smell and sometimes stench wafted around the site, and got into everyones tents and clothes - not a pleasant experience.

Overall a nice place, but spoilt by the owners allowing too many tents for the facilities, and by the owners allowing that one big group having an open fire, which stank the place out.

Just returned from 3 nights in Bishops Castle. Site facilities basic, but very clean. Could see it may be a problem if site busy as there are 3 toilets with wet rooms all in one. Had to queue awhile for toilet as people having shower.

Would definitely suggest you pitch your tent far down the field as the site is very exposed and the wind whips over the Shropshire Hills.

Surrounding area for pretty, particularly worth a visit to Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

Bishops Castle is a lovely town, only 10 minutes from campsite. Pack your swimming costume as swimming pool is great - and at £7.50 for a family ticket very good value.
