This is our fourth visit to Foxholes and it is one of our favourite places.
This year the owners have built an excellent wooden cabin which houses the fridge and freezer and has power points. It is a very good sized building and the veranda has four large washing up sinks.
The eco disposal area is clearly marked and very discreetly placed.
The panoramic views from the upper tent field are magnificent and I have many happy memories of walking on the Steperstones and the Long Mynd when I was young.
At this time of year the site becomes busy at the weekend. Because there is no play area children have to amuse themselves on the hill side and it is a pleasure to watch adults and children playing happily in the open air in a way that is reminiscent of years gone by.

We were welcomed by friendly owners and as we drove up to the tent field were amazed by the stunning views across to Long Mynd and Stiperstones.
This site is set in fabulous walking country and has a handy path (part of the Shropshire Way), running through it. This makes the walk from the campsite to Bishops Castle a lovely pleasant walk.
The site is child friendly & dog friendly with a dog exercise area and a relaxed attitude all round. The well kept grass is slightly sloping and there are a choice of fields separated by wide hedgerows. There are no set pitches but there is plenty of room to choose where to go and although busy at the weekend there was still plenty of room for children to run around and play.
The facilities were under a bit of pressure at the weekend but were kept clean and tidy and we didn't have to queue for long. (Ladies had 3 showers & 4 toilets)
Very eco friendly site with owners making a real effort to maintain habitat and recycle.
If you want electric, a shop, a bar and home comforts this is not the site for you, if you want stunning views, real countryside and space - its perfect.
We stayed 4 nights & whilst we were there we had a nice meal at the Three Tuns in Bishops Castle which is one of several child & dog friendly pubs.
We will be returning!

This is a superb spacious site. We received a a warm welcome. The views are amazing and the facilities are excellent. The walk down into the town is a must. The village of Bishops Castle is beautiful with some excellent pubs. Particularly The Castle. After a trip incorporating 7 sites, this was my favourite. The only draw back was there were no hookups and as we were in a motorhome we couldn't stay longer.

Wonderful weekend in the sun.
Second visit and will not be our last.
Warm Welcome by the owners and lots of information regarding recycling points, showers, fields.
Good value rental of a fire basket and cheap logs made the evenings in front of the fire cosy.
Toilet block and showers are clean and even though the site was full (not to busy as the owners don't let it get to crammed) were not to busy.
Plenty of space and nature to keep the kids busy
The local village has a charm you do not see often and is within a short walk with shops and pubs.

Lovely quiet site with clean and tidy facilities. Very friendly owners and a dog friendly site. Both of us are real ale drinkers so Bishops Castle is a real ale paradise with two out of the six pubs have their own brewery! Only one pub did not let us take our dogs in. The public footpath from the campsite to Bishops Castle only takes 10 mins. Plenty of wildlife to see around campsite with a lot of rabbits running around. Will be returning to this site and would recommend it to anyone.

Mid summer. Hot start to weekend. Quiet campsite probably as poor forecast but we had a wonderful stay. Very clean facilities. Hot showers warmed by solar panels despite low sunshine. Best bit for me was lots of space and hooks in the showers to hang your clothes! Pub meal in the town and tea and cake in mid summer festival in the church. Interesting knitted art on all the lamp posts. Keep a look out when you walk around. Red kite and buzzards and lots blackbirds feeding babies in the tent fields.

Foxholes is located just outside the pretty village town of Bishop's Castle. While the site caters for caravans, camper-vans and tents (plus two on-site statics and a bunk house), there are no electric hook ups and most of the fields are gently sloping, so tenters were actually in a majority, which was a pleasant surprise.
Facility-wise, the site has a recently built toilet block with solar powered showers and rain-water/well-water flushed loos; these were clean and spider-free and impressively, the solar powered showers were hot too! There is also a covered washing-up area, campers' freezer, fridge and phone re-charging point and extensive waste recycling facilities. There is no playground for children, but acres of spaces to explore! Most importantly for us though, was the availability of fire pits for hire (£3 per stay) and fire logs (£3 per bag).
One thing I must have a little gripe about though, is their charge for teenagers. Over 12s are charged as adults, which makes this an expensive site to visit if you have 2 or more teens.
On a plus point, we booked our pitch as a last minute getaway after seeing the good weather forecast. On arrival, the friendly owner offered us a choice of 'pitches' which, as there is no electric hook ups or hard standing, basically meant we could find a space anywhere we liked! We chose a spot on the gently sloping and very spacious main tent field. The outlook over the beautiful Shropshire countryside was amazing.
I would thoroughly recommend Foxholes to anyone who enjoys 'real' camping, and we certainly hope to return in the not to distant future.

Came and stayed at Foxholes for the bank holiday weekend while my partner and I visited his family in the town.
Unfortunately, because of really bad traffic, we didn't arrive until after dark and found that it was difficult to find an available plot in the pitch black with just our headlights to guide us. Thinking about it, perhaps night-glow lights to show a 'safe driving' route would have been advisable as weaving through the randomly placed tents was difficult in the dark. No matter, we found a spot and set up fine.
The facilities were, as usual, very good although the floors could have done with cleaning more frequently but as there were so many others camping I understand the sometimes grubby floors. I love the new washing-up block and cabin dining area.
The only drawback we found this visit was the family who had a row in the small hours of the morning and the inebriated men weaving their way back from the local pubs and calling very loudly to try and find his tent in the dark.
Still, you can't deny the weather was glorious, the view of the surrounding countryside in the day and the stars at night is really amazing and the sound of owls is pleasantly spine-tingling when you need to use the facilities at night.
I love it here and will keep coming back for as long as I can.

The Easter weekend this part of Shropshire was more like Lapland due to the amount of snow still on the ground, but the 3 kids in our party of 2 caravans really enjoyed it. The only time I have been camping & had to get sledges, but due to this campsite position at the top of a hill it was great.
The owners of this site are brilliant at helping you get the best from your stay the pitches we used were right by the heated wet rooms were cleared of snow by the tractor.
This is our 3rd Easter visit so that says it all about this site. Clean, tidy & walking distance to town. We have all ready said that we will return.

I can't write a full review as I spent the night at Foxholes Castle campsite in midwinter so barely saw it in daylight - our group arrived shortly before dusk, camped overnight then left very early the next morning.
Even so, my overall impression was of a well-run small campsite. When booking and when arriving, the owners seemed accommodating and friendly.
Access by road is very easy for cars and it looked easy for towed caravans too. The site is on a B road above the town but is very easy to find.
The main facilities block was closed (because we were the only booking) but two wetrooms were open for our use. They were heated and contained all we needed - loo, handbasin and shower. The wetrooms were clean and well-maintained.
The 'tent field' is hedged and it slopes gently. There is a well-mown grass surface free of humps and bumps. The soil is not stony and takes pegs easily. We visited after a very rainy week but the site seemed free-draining and there was very little mud.
The rate I paid for one person in one tent was £7 for the one night.
Foxholes sits on high ground above Bishops Castle in a fairly exposed location so I imagine it might catch the wind. There are extensive views over the beautiful Shropshire hills. The centre of Bishops Castle is ten minutes walk from the campsite either by footpath or by road. The town itself is delightful and has all the services one would expect in a small market town. It has several good pubs - perhaps the most noteworthy is the Three Tuns with its attached small brewery.
In summary, a friendly and well-run campsite in a very pleasant and convenient location.
