Our third trip to Foxholes in a year did not disappoint. Unlike the first two visits when the weather was hot and sunny it was wet on a couple of days. However, there was a magnificent rainbow which we saw in it's entirety spread out across the panoramic view.
We were able to eat al fresco and my sister and brother in law who joined us can't wait to go back.
There are always events in Bishops Castle and this time there was a book fair and some music in a couple of pubs on the Saturday.
We have spent 21 days camping at Foxholes and we are planning our next trip.
During the time that we have stayed two of our guests had problems with their cars. These were sorted out efficiently and at a reasonable cost at the local garage.

The site is situated a 15 minute stroll from the centre of Bishops Castle, albeit a cross-country walk which is well sign posted, in an elevated position offering fantastic views of the surrounding hills and countryside. The site itself is well managed with a strong bias towards recycling and protection of the environment. Perhaps something we should all strive for!
The facilities are well up to modern standards, clean, and would meet the needs of most campers. (Note: there is no electric hook-up on the site). Walking in the area is tops for variety and panorama. Nearby Bishops Castle offers numerous good pubs ( try the Three Tuns and the Six Bells for good pub atmosphere and cracking beer!), shops and places of interest.
There is a local small supermarket providing virtually everything you could need on a daily basis (it is not a huge retail outlet!) We recommend the local, unlicensed, Indian restaurant for a good meal (take your own booze!) The local 'chippy' also offers decent food. We attended the annual September Michaelmas Fair, with all it's rural charms and rustic appeal, no frills but good, honest, entertainment.
We would have no hesitation in returning to Foxholes and doing it all again!

We have just returned from a ten day holiday at Foxholes. Last year we visited the site in September and decided to celebrate our golden wedding there this July.
Initially we didn't know if anyone would join us but as the time approached our family and friends became enthusiastic. Eleven adults and six grand children joined us in tents and the static caravan and eleven more friends and relations joined us on the day.
We enjoyed a ploughman's lunch with an assortment of delicious Shropshire cheeses followed by afternoon tea with champagne and the local butcher and his sister prepared a wonderful stew with dumplings which we warmed up at the site in the evening. We then sat round the fire and chatted. It was a wonderful celebration and we can't thank Wendy and Chris enough for their friendly hospitality.
The weather was absolutely superb for the whole of our stay. The site was busy both weekends with lots of groups of adults and children enjoying themselves, a great example of how people can coexist happily.

One of our favourite places to camp. We return regularly because it is a consistently happy, clean place to stay.
The owners are wonderfully friendly and helpful, always ready to have a chat. They have an environmentally friendly ethos at the campsite and encourage recycling as much as possible. The facilities recycle water and the showers are heated by solar panels. The facilities are immaculate, the shower cubicles are huge and have lots of hooks to hang your clothes on.
Fire drums are available to hire along with bags of wood to burn. There are no set plots, so you have freedom to decide where you want to set up camp. All the fields are well maintained and there are plenty of hedges to shelter against the wind. This is a campsite on the hill so it is worth nothing that it can get pretty windy, although the views are fabulous.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Foxholes. It was our second visit there.
It has a lovely walk into Bishops Castle where there was a jazz music festival.
The fire drums and logs were a bonus and kept us warm in the evenings though I would advise people to take a grill to pop on top if they want to cook food on them.
Love the commitment to eco-friendliness including the recycling and the solar panels.
Beautiful views but would be careful where setting up as we struggled to get the caravan back up the hill as leaving, as the field is on quite a slope. Luckily the owners came along with a landrover and pulled us (car plus van) back up!
We will be visiting again.

Our trip to Fox Holes was an adventure. My wife had only camped once before in the 1960s and I had had a break of 50 years.
We had practised putting the tent up in the garden but everything else was new and untested.
We found the site quite easily and the reception was pleasant. We were told that we could pitch our tent anywhere with a choice of two fields for tents and one shared with motorhomes. We chose the top of the main camping field.
It was a Tuesday but we were rather surprised to see no tents on the site and after we had erected ours without any problems we were joined by one other couple who also had a tent. We discovered that it was their first time as well.
The first night we set off for Bishops Castle, took the wrong turning in the dark, and made our way through some rather challenging undergrowth. We found the Indian restaurant and had a very good meal having chosen dishes which the proprietor described as 'home cooking. 'It was very much like the food that has been served by our Indian friends when they have entertained us.
In the daytime we discovered the correct route into Bishops Castle which is quite straight forward. The return is uphill.
There is an excellent lunch time cafe called Acanthus, the butcher is excellent as is the delicatessen and on the two occasions that we took the car there was free parking !
We cooked breakfast and evening meals and enjoyed them al fresco.
The views of the hills from the top of the site where we pitched our tent are wonderful. I may be prejudiced because they take me back to the times when as a small boy I used to love walking on the Stretton hills, the Longmynd and the Stiperstones.
There are wet rooms which are comfortable and a large toilet and shower block.
The wind blew and my wife was disappointed that the conditions were not more challenging!
On the Friday weekend campers arrived and it was fascinating watching the variety of tents and dare I say it the degrees of expertise of the campers.
This was the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday we have had for years and for us, at this time, Fox Holes ticked all the boxes. The only problem is that it is a considerable way from our present home.

A beautiful, informal site. The toilet facilities have been upgraded since we last visited and are now absolutely first rate - clean, spacious and generously maintained (always soap in the gents!)
There are several different fields, with some shelter but unfortunately the position on the top of a hill does leave a bit of wind. You can, however, choose where you pitch, so you do at least have some control over this.
The town is a fifteen minute walk down the Shropshire way or on the road (take a torch); a classic English market town with nationally renowned pubs - and even two breweries! We ate in the Castle Hotel and had an excellent cheffy meal for a very reasonable price.
The site prides itself on its eco credentials, and you are encouraged to recyle as much as possible - there are no electric hookups but the 'information room' contains not just a freezer but a fridge for camper's use.
Notices advise of the local wildlife, and the views of the surrounding countryside are stunning. There is plenty of good walking to be had locally, and the town bristles with 'we welcome walkers' stickers.
We had a great stay, and will definitely be returning!

We stayed at Foxholes for 2 nights to attend the Michaelmas Fare. It was our second visit to the site as we had stayed there in August for 2 nights which was our first ever camping trip.
The site was very good with clean toilets and showers. The washing up area was outside and a small sink was just inside the door in the toilet block. Recycling was required on the site.
There were a few fields to choose from to pitch our tent and both times they have been fairly busy but we managed to pitch on the main big field.
Bishops Castle is a lovely town and is within walking distance
Fire drums were available with logs from reception but we didn't have one for just the two of us.
Both times we were there it rained but that wasn't a problem.
The owners were very helpful and friendly.
We had a lovely time on both visits and Foxholes remains very special to us as it's such a lovely place and don't think we could've found a better site to begin camping.
Can't wait to return!

Stayed two nights, sign posted well up to the camptsite, lady was helpfully on arrival and advised us where we could park up, The site is on a hill so if your in a camper like us chose you spot wisely! The views are amazing,
Toilet blocks are clean and tidy do lack a hand dryer and a socket to use my hairdryer!showers are big and are the push button style but I'm all for saving water, washing up facilities are outside and not covered like some reviews state.
Basic site but what do you need when camping as long as I can gave a good shower and the toilets are clean. Which this site has.
Lovely walk into bishops castle through the fields and very easy to follow, great pubs in bishops castle and a very friendly place to go. We stopped at the three tuns .
While waiting for our Indian to be cooked walked back and eat it in the camper, the food was fantastic so if you like Indian food try it out, you can eat in as well.
All in all a lovely place to stay we wouLd return, very quite place to stay if you want to chill out totally.

A wonderful site. Very clean facilities, plenty of toilets, showers & hot water. No queues. (a previous review stated the washing up area is now covered over - this is not the case, only where the hot water is obtained from is covered over).
Hook-Ups available. A 10min walk into Bishops Castle, (longer to come back = all uphill !). The views from this site, of the Clee hills & the Long Mynd, are amazing.
Very friendly & helpful site owner, who is very strict that recycling is adhered to. , recycling points provided.
A fantastic site to relax and just chill out around a camp fire (fire drums hired from the site owner £3 and wood can be purchased on site, £3 a large bag).
I would highly recommend this site and will definitely visit again. We had a lovely 2night weekend break.
