This is a great site, tucked away just outside the village of Bilsthorpe and surrounded by countryside with some lovely views across the fields.
On arrival you need to pass through a small, but rather grotty industrial estate and then drive about 3/4 of a mile up a narrow lane which is strewn with potholes to access the site itself. This being our first foray into the world of caravanning, we had started to wonder what we had let ourselves in for!
However, when we passed through the gates our initial fears faded. The site is well cared for and the owners are really friendly and helpful.
The pitches were all a generous size and mostly flat, with a reasonable amount of shelter. There is a small children's play area with swings and a slide. The toilet block is clean but small and in need of a makeover. There is a laundry room on site, along with chemical disposal point, fresh water point and outdoor washing up sink. There is also a small shop (basics only). The fee for a hook up pitch was a bargain at just £15 per night, and our friends (who joined us for the weekend in their enormous tent) were not charged any extra despite having two cars and a dog with them.
The site was quiet and secluded but within easy travelling distance of many of Nottinghamshires towns and attractions.
Overall I would certainly recommend it and will be visiting again soon.

We stayed at this campsite at the end of the half term holiday. It is small and was fairly full, but didn’t feel busy.
The pitch was a good size, flat and no stones. The owner suggested we pitch to one side in case it rained. On the second night we had a torrential thunderstorm (pretty much all night) and there was a puddle where we’d been told to avoid but otherwise we were fine.
My children liked the little shop (probably because it sold ice cream and ice pops).
Only negative point – toilets and showers are quite small. But they were kept clean and there was plenty of hot water.
We were told that there had been a problem emptying the bins, so they were full when we arrived but were emptied on the second day.
So to summarise - we would go back; we would recommend it; it’s good value for money; just not the most luxurious toilet block in the world.

The campsite was very peaceful and secluded, well of the beaten track. The owner's were very friendly, and we had a choice as to were we could pitch. For £15.O0 a night with full electric it was value for money.
They could do with a little freezer in the laundry room, so that camper's can freeze there ice blocks, even though for 50p you could exchange yours for 4 of theirs.
The only two down-sides to this park was the showers could have been bigger and mopped more often, myself and my daughter did it a few times, but the mop head was to big to fit the wringer on the bucket properly, and secondly, the rubbish bag's and bin's had not been removed in the whole week that we were there.
Other wise the site is a cracking place, with great attractions right on the door step. Will be going back again hopefully for a week in August.

The road leading up was very narrow but ok if you went steady. Friendly staff and helpful. Very peaceful, views of fields all round. Toilet blocks could of done with upgrade but ok seen worse. Plenty of freedom for kids, no traffic to worry about, mine got well and truly mudded up and loved every minute of it.
Close to Bilsthorpe village and about 15mins in car to local town, Mansfield. Sherwood visitors centre about 20 mins by car. Edwinstowe Rufford country park 10mins down the road by car is a lovely day out. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area but you do need a car. Would go back to site purely because of the freedom kids had.

We had a quick 1 nighter over the May bank holiday here as we were doing Go Ape in Sherwood the next day.
2 of us rang up on the Sat morning and we were able to get a pitch for 1 night with electric. Super! No 3 day minimum and no messing around. £15 sorted.
We found the site no problems using the sat nav, you do go through a small industrial unit complex and straight out the other side into open fields, the site is signed up.
We were checked in and we went for hardstanding, it was a little messy but no real problem. The grass pitches did look nicer but I was a little worried about rain and motorhome traction on wet grass.
The owners were friendly and walked us to the pitches which were next to each other.
The toilet block was fine, there was only 1 sink though for washing up and it was outside.
We walked down into Bilsthorpe for tea, when you reach the main road, turn right and keep walking for 30 mins. Copper Beech is the pubs name.
I'd not bother going further into town, we did and the only other pub was a dive and as cheap as the beer was it was still a dive and not busy.
Sherwood forest was about 10 mins drive away and was super. Go Ape was fab and the bikes trails etc all looked good too.
The site was fine for 1 night, I could do a weekend here but if it was longer I'd probably use a different site.
Very nice time had by all, the inlaws usually use CC owned sites and I had no complaints from them.
They were able to leave the caravan on site for most of the day even though we were going home.

Stayed here for 2 nights
Nice quiet site, new trees being planted, views over surrounding countryside. Little Park for the kids
Good size pitches, enough for car, caravan and awning side by side, with small trees separating each pitch
Owner was very friendly and helpful and came to check we were ok
Small on site shop, not sure what it sold as we didn't need it
Facilities were clean and well looked after, so no problems there
Locally is Bilsthope, which has a nice pub serving cheap food, and a good grassed beer garden. Also a local mini-mart shop nearby in bilsthorpe
Approach road to site, is a bit pot-holed and could do with some tlc, but passible at slow speed

A fantastic peaceful little site ! Lovely friendly owners, who go out of their way to help you if you need it (and we did, as it was our first outing with the new van !). As has been said previously, driving down the side of the industrial estate you have to wonder what you are going to find, but it really is lovely once you get there. We were on the bottom part of the site, with lovely views over the fields. The toilets are perfectly adequate, with toiletries provided which is a nice touch. Definitely worth a visit

Just got back from Robin Hood Retreat and must say it was just what the doctor ordered. After a little bit of a mix up with my sat-nav my wife and I arrived and was met by the owner, he was nice and polite and very informative on the local attractions
The site had a few people still on after the bank holiday most of them in caravans, there was two big family tents with a number of young children and they were happy playing on the play area, this is a children friendly site and it was nice to see children just playing and getting on with each other. As most reviews have said for this site the showers are adequate and clean there is also a washing machine if you need one.
Talking with the owner he told me he is in the process of making a on site shop, this is a good idea as the local shop in a car ride away and so is the nearest pub.
The only down side to the site is the approach road there are a number of pot holes and you have to take it easy and pick your way around them.

A smashing little campsite, with friendly and cheerful staff. It is slightly tucked away off the beaten track but well worth the journey as it is lovely and peaceful. I visited this site as it was willing to take a group of three ladies - which not all sites will do.
The toilet and shower block was always clean as was the washing up sink. I have since visited this site again for one night with two seven year old girls and they loved it. Plenty of space to run around as well as a couple of swings.
Although this site is placed near to an industrial site you can't hear any traffic one you are on site.
The nearest pub is a half hour walk away, but the manager did tell us that the local Chinese would deliver if we wanted!

We have just returned from a long weekend here and have a mixed review.
On the plus side:
The pitches are lovely, well divided with shrubs and trees, EHU coped well, no tripping which we have previously experienced. The toilet block was on the whole very clean and free sanitary wear, deodarant and toiletries were a nice touch, and the site was nice and peaceful with a small children's slide, and swings. Not badly priced at £13 pn with EHU
Areas for improvement:
The showers don't have doors, just separated with a shower curtain, with very little room to move so my modesty was often revealed when the shower curtain stuck to me each time I moved! One of the toilet cubicles didn't lock and one of the doors didn't close. Some Leaking from the shower trays seemed to cause wet muddy floors, although they were quickly cleaned. The potwash area is just a sink outside and there is only one, not much hot water when it's busy!
The road in is awful, especially if you're towing, full of pot holes and through an industrial estate, although this doesn't bother you when you reach the site and at least children are safe from heavy traffic.
The most off putting thing for us was the noise of the other campers, maybe we had a roudy weekend but music and shouting went on until 1am and no sign of the usual noise warden! The same people were then up shouting at 7am! Not good when you have to cope with little ones who have not had their quota of sleep. Although this is not the sites fault as such, it could be alleviated by having a simple no noise rule like most sites do. Oh and we were constantly attacked by wasps, millions of the things, although just as we were leaving the owner was trying to get rid of them!
All in all a site with great potential and I'm sure alterations will continue to be done, hopefully starting with the facilities!
