We stayed 2 nights at this little gem of a site. As others have said you feel you want to keep quiet about it. Owners and their kids are so welcoming.

Site continues to be developed, pot washing facilities and children's play area added while we were there. Toilets well kept.

I would definitely go back (if it isn't fully booked because everyone else has found it!)

Although you may have trouble finding this site through the small industrial estate and up a long track through the farm fields, you realise that the campsite is isolated from busy roads and houses, being placed on a slightly sloping ground surrounded by countryside.

The toilet block provides both toilets and showers, laundry facilities and a washing up area, all of which are kept clean and they provide shampoo and shower gel for all campers. Fresh water and ELSAN disposal are also available. Many pitches have electric hookup, the grass is always kept cut and tidy. They have recently put up a children's swing and slide in the middle of the site field, so it is easy to keep track of the kids playing.

The nearest village of Billsthorpe (2 miles from the site) has a Pub, One Stop shop, Offlicence, post office, cash machine facilities and a good chip shop! Set in the Sherwood Forest Area, there was a local Robin Hood Festival one of the weeks we stayed. Other attractions are Rufford Park, Newark Castle, Nottingham Castle, Hardwick Hall, Sherwood Forest Park, Sherwood Pines Forest Park, Newstead Abbey Park, Clumber Park, all within a radius of 23 miles from the site.

John & Kerry are very welcoming and are happy to help with any problems or requirements you may have. They have only recently taken over management of this site and are working hard to improve it. We found this to be a peaceful, kid friendly, dog friendly, easy going and affordable site.

We've just returned from a weekend here and in order to honest there are good and not so good points,as I understand it the present owners have only been in charge a couple of months and by their own admission the site was a mess when they took over and they are working hard to get it right. First off the site is accessed through an industrial estate and we followed the sparse signs with a little trepidation, the estate gives way to a very long single track concrete road that has some fairly rough holes in it and passes through farmers fields until reaching the site where you meet the lovely people that run it.

As john said once people get there they love it but the initial stages are a bit off putting. The site itself consists of a large field with caravans down one side and tents along the bottom and up the other side and is ideal for families with a little play area.To the left is a separate area with 5 EHU pitches and this is were we were pitched and the view from here across the fields was lovely. Facilities wise the shower/toilets are functional but the owners know they require serious updating and say this is coming.

All in all we enjoyed our visit and while its not all roses hopefully given time and support it will blossom, the owners certainly deserve it.

This site is one of those few and far between gems that you really want to keep to yourself. However, having experienced the hospitality of the new Managers, I knew that I must post a review because they are really fantastic and really deserve to have a thriving business.

We visited at the beginning of August, coinciding our visit with the Robin Hood Festival. Initially, we booked for five nights, but had such a great time (despite some bouts of awful weather!) that we stayed on for the full week.

The site is accessed by a long and potholed road which suits 4x4s fine, but our car (an older lady) didn't like the road one bit! That said, if you take it nice and easy (5-10 mph) you will have no bother. The site is basic, but very clean and (we felt) very secure for children. There is a climing frame with slides and swings, a tree just made for kids to climb in the middle of the site and a couple of trees that made great 'dens' e.G. Weeping willows etc.

The shower and toilet blocks were cleaned twice a day and nice toiletries were provided e.G. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel. Things got a bit hectic when the site became full and hot water was at a premium, but as the saying goes 'The early bird catches the worm' and if you could be bothered to get up early then you had a lovely hot shower! There is only one washing up sink (scouring pads provided), which got a bit crowded when the site was full, but in the end it helped us all to get a bit more organised about how and when we cleared up after a meal so was no bad thing!

John and Kerry were fantastic hosts and were really helpful in providing us with advice on days out and local attractions. They ALWAYS went the extra mile to be helpful on every occasion and John made an at least once daily tour of the park to talk to all his guests and make sure that everyone was happy. He mowed and strimmed the grass to keep everything neat and tidy, giving us plenty of warning and ensuring that the kids on site were always safe. After a particularly torrential night-long downpour he placed road cones around the flooded parts of the site (the water can tend to 'sit' on top of the clay in the soil in some places) to ensure that cars did not get stuck (there is parking off the fields which is recommended) and he spent a good while 'forking' the area to encourage drainage. The Managers clearly really care for their site and for their visitors and that showed in everything that they did.

Things to do locally: Robin Hood Festival (held once a year so check Nottinghamshire County Council Website), swimming pool with wave machine and water slides, IKEA!, Sundown Adventure Land - a sort of mini Disney Land with rides, a huge indoor soft play area, interactive things for the kids (lots of button pressing!), themed play areas e.G. Wild West, Toy Land, On the Farm etc., Wheelgate Park which had a Butterfly House, funfair-type rides, bouncy castles, train ride, animals (including alpacas!), a maze, climing frames, a toy town and a massive indoor soft play centre. Day prices for a family of four to Sundown was £34 and to Wheelgate was £32 and I would say that they would be best suited to under 10s or thereabouts.

We had a brilliant time on the site and will definitely be visiting again. Thanks again for a great stay!

The trek up to the site is off putting and full of pot holes.

Went to this site but only stayed one night, Its a nice site but EHU pitches are made for caravans so when we went and asked for a EHU pitch we got a pitch with gravel up the middle [not good for a tent with a built in ground sheet] all EHU pitches are like this. Showers ok but do not have doors just curtains and toilet doors do not have catches or locks. We left because we were kept awake until 1.30am with a caravan behind us playing loud music swearing and arguing, we did think these were seasonal residents as the grass was very large around there awning but when we went to tell the owners were told they are only there two weeks [so that should not be a problem again] £13 per night for a basic site.

Visited site for 3 days midweek. Great site lovely views, quiet apart from the wildlife. Toilets and showers spotless and free.Grass was being cut regularly and site was clean and tidy.Don't be put off by the drive through industrial estate to reach site. Once on site you cannot see or hear anything apart from distant traffic. Room for children to play. Owners very friendly and welcoming, we will definitely be returning soon. Owner has only been at sight for 3 months and is making ongoung improvements so site will only get better with time

Great little site. Went for a weekend with my husband and son whilst my daughters were at cub camp. The owners only took the site over 2 months ago and are working hard to make improvements. Shower and toilet block are great and clean. Shower products were put in there free of charge and a hairdryer was also provided. The owners are hoping to put a small playground on the site but my son enjoyed it in any event. Owners are looking to install washing up facilities together with a laundry room. A site I will definitely be returning to.

As you get to the site do not get off put by the small industrial site that you have to go through as when you get to the site none of that can be seen and there is a lovely view over the fields.

Working nearby I turned up and was made very welcome. The pitch grass was regularly cut. The electric was reliable and never failed. John showed me the facilities which were always immaculate. They even provide quality shower products for free. The showers are token free with good hot water and plenty of room. It is a beautiful site with stunning views, excellent facilities and very quite. I was made very welcome and will certainly be taking the family back. While I was there the site was being carefully renovated. This work was carefully planned so as not to disrupt me or anyone else. I wish them every success. They deserve it.
