Lovely, little, family-run campsite with a field for caravans that is surrounded by trees and another for tents (in the main) that is embraced by embankments strewn with meadow flowers, but still affording views across the marshes.

We were greeted with a friendly reception by the owners and given a tour of the facilities. In reception itself there is, unusually, a fridge/freezer for general use, which was very handy given the hot weekend. I noticed that an exhausted cyclist was allowed to flop down in the adjacent (and usually private) sitting room so he could watch the football. Otherwise, thankfully, the campsite is free from unnecessary add-ons, like a games room, kiddies corner or swimming pool.

A busy weekend for the campsite was followed by a near-deserted monday morning, to which a thick mist added an eerie air of remoteness. The site boasts a new washroom facility that is well stocked, clean and complete with hanging baskets. It's a pleasant surprise not to have to pay for a shower, or to always have to load yourself up with an armful of towels, soap and toilet-paper every time you need to pay a visit. Especially on a soggy dawn!

I liked the place, and its central position in the marshes. New Romney is within walking distance, and Lydd and Dungeness can easily be reached by bike. If your preference is to travel by car then the ancient town of Rye lies to the west and Folkestone to the east.

I'll be back, as someone once said.

This is a lovely little site, very neat and clean without being too 'ordered'. The shower block was small and bright, always spotless and with hot showers. The actual campsite was almost deserted but we did go during the week and I can imagine it might not be so calm and peaceful at weekends or bank holidays. The owner was very kind and helpful and even refunded a night's stay when we decided to leave due to the awful weather. We will definitely be going again - it is only one and a half hour's drive from SE London and the Romney Marsh area and beaches make a lovely break from the city.
