A fabulous site,(it would have to be as we travelled from South Devon to visit ). The site overall is very well placed with pitches right on the edge of the loch.
The facilities were absolutely brilliant. And the staff could not have been more helpful. Would we visit again ? Yes definitely although it is a heck of a drive from here.
There is so much to do on Skye and this is an excellent place from which to start. Visit this site and enjoy the best of Scottish hospitality. I drove from there to Glen Coe to break the journey home and again I was very pleased with the site.

We stayed at Kinloch in mid May with our 2 dogs. The weather was changeable - I'm not sure if Skye is normally like this? When we arrived on site we were greeted by a very friendly chap (a character!) who took our basic details and told us to go pitch (anywhere we wanted on the grassed areas of the site), put the kettle on and come back to sort payment etc. This was quite refreshing.
We picked a flat area to pitch on that gave good views over the loch and shoreline. The majority of the site is open which means it can be very windy and cold. When we paid we were given some books and maps from the staff to borrow for the duration of our trip (this was very much appreciated and came in very useful). The staff can refreeze ice packs and will charge items such as phones etc for free.
I found that the weather was an issue especially the wind. On an evening it was very very cold and meant that it was awkward to do much. The duration of visit was windy. Luckily we had a windbreak which meant we could still cook outside. A lot of the other tenters also seemed to be struggling with the wind so I would suggest going prepared.
The facilities were good (very clean and warm) although for me they were too much like a youth hostel. My OH thought they were brilliant so maybe it's a girl thing?!
I would recommend the site as a good base for exploring Skye. It is very close to Dunvegan Castle (if like us you just want a picture and not to go in then try driving past the ticket office up a thin road - there are good views a way along this road).
Portree is nice drive and worth a visit. It has lot's of nice shops and Stuart's Fish & Chip shop is great! Portree really has a nice charm about it for a day out. We drove back via Trotternish (the Old Man rock) and Kilt Rock. The scenery is spectacular, lot's of tourists, the roads good in places and poor in others. I would be careful travelling on some as the majority are single track with passing places and you do get an awful lot of coaches on these roads. Kinloch is a great base and at least the wind kept the bugs away.

Visited Kinloch, potentially for a couple of nights but we ended up spending 5 nights here. A lovely campsite, very relaxed attitude of the owner as to where we pitched and how long we stayed for. Good toilet and shower facilities that are always clean, small laundry area with washing machine, dryer or a washing line if your pegs are strong enough!
The site is sloping in places but plenty of areas to chose from. Colin (the owner) always had time for a chat about anything and was nearly always available. There was a small freezer in the office for ice blocks and he lets you charge electrical things (camera batteries etc) for free.
The site is on the edge of the loch, surrounded by sheep and lambs at this time of year. Lots of herons in the area and fabulous views of MacLeods tables.
Quiet and peaceful for everyone, tents, camper vans and caravans.

Stayed here for 2 nights in April '10. Very much enjoyed our stay here. Fantastic views over the water but very windy. Toilet block and showers were spotless. Nice level pitches with some picnic tables scattered about.
Owners were very friendly and very obliging. A big thank you to Colin (owner) for helping us out with gas as he came to the rescue by driving home to get one of his own supply so that we could finish cooking dinner. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Site office is stocked with lots of useful information about the local area. Hope to return in the future.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Lovely location right next to the loch and with Macleods Tables nearby too.
Nice level pitches with hardstanding with grass next some of them, good for putting the awning up on. We had some strong winds whilst here so do make sure your guy ropes are tight.
The shower and toilet block was always clean and hot water available.
The Wi-fi provided by Highland Wi-fi was really good, easy to connect to and with varying prices depending on how long you buy it for.
We walked up Macleods Tables from the campsite, a really nice walk although boggy in places, took us about 5 hours. The views from the top over towards the Western Isles are amazing on a clear day. There is no defined path up or down but plenty of sheep tracks to follow and bits of paths appear in places, no awkward stiles or gates to get the dogs through or over either.

The friendliest welcome we've ever had when arriving at a site. Lots of level pitches with hook up to choose from with great views from them all. As it was fairly quiet the owner said that if we wanted to move to a different pitch, just do it.
The site is exposed, so the wind can be a problem.
We walked into the village on the first evening and tried to get a meal at The Old School Restaurant, but as we had not booked we would have had a long wait for a table, so we booked for the next evening and went to the Dunvegan Hotel to eat, which we thought was expensive for basic dishes. At The Old School Restraint the next night the food was fantastic and worth the money. The bakery has a cafe which was busy with both locals and tourists. We didn't use it but people we talked to said it was very good.
We had a walk to Dunvegan castle which was undergoing restoration and was covered in scaffolding and tarpaulins which spoilt it a bit. The inside was still interesting though.
All in all it was a very enjoyable tree nights stay. We would certainly go back.

Stayed here over easter, great campsite, very clean toilets, plenty of free hot water for a shower. Hard standing pitches if you use a awning best to strap it down strong winds.
Views from here are stunning right on water front.Well stocked shop in village went to the pub for dinner done the job had better. No swing park on site but a good one in the village.

We stayed here in October people who run site really helpful and friendly. It's a lovely small site, toilet/shower block spotless and showers fab! Views across loch stunning, worth staying just for this. Price good and hook-ups not metered. We nearly got blown away during the night as awning became detached from van but survived. Great location as just outside Dunvegan, short drive to the coral beach definitely worth a visit.

We planned to stay here for just the one night and it was a very long journey from the Black Isle. Don't underestimate how long it takes to drive to Dunvegan from the bridge! However, an absolutely stunning and picturesque trip.
The campsite is on a headland overlooking the loch, about a 10-15 minutes walk from the village and a good 30 minute walk from the castle. We had pre-booked and had a level pitch right at the water's edge. Great views. The facilities were good although we had to wait for loos and showers - there are LOTS of tents pitching here. The site owners are very friendly and helpful - the whole island was fully booked and one young italian couple could find no B&B for the night so he let them stay on site and sleep in their car.
A number of shops in Dunvegan but not much in the way of a decent pub for a pint or two - very disappointing. Dunvegan Castle is well worth a visit and make sure you pay the extra money for a boat trip to see the seals - our two daughters (14 and 10) were thrilled to see so many, in the wild, including baby seals. We also saw herons.
Would return to do a walking holiday.

This was the high point of my six week tour of Scotland and I will definitely come back. The site looks out over Loch Dunvegan and some beautiful mountains.
The owner was really friendly, helpful and flexible (I rang twice and changed my arrival date without any grumbles) and as a single traveller with electric hookup I was only charged £8 per night, which I thought was excellent value.
The village of Dunvegan boasts an impressive array of shops for such a remote place - two garages, newsagent, butcher, baker greengrocer & post office with Supermarkets in Portree which is 20 miles away.
I had chosen this site over the one in Uig because it has wifi, and although I could not get it working when I arrived the engineer came out to fix it at 9pm on a Saturday evening which I though was excellent service. Once working the wifi functioned perfectly and was a welcome back to civilisation after some time in the Highlands with no internet access. Once again the rates or the wifi were excellent value - £20 for 5 days.
The site showers were spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water even at peak times - the block might get a bit chilly on cold days as there is no real ceiling but during reasonable weather it stopped the shower room from getting too steamed up.
Although I didn't need to use it, I noticed a small building marked 'Shelter' which is an excellent idea for anyone in a tent during high winds - why don't other sites do this?
I used the laundry, which at the risking of sounding boring, was again excellent value - the same machines as used on caravan club sites, but about 25% cheaper - there is also a washing line (again why don't other sites have these?)
I took an brilliant day trip from Uig to the Isles of Uist and Harris and also visited Skye's main town of Portree a couple of times. Both are worth doing, and the drive through the islands fantastic scenery makes the trip really worthwhile.
If I had to change one thing I would maybe improve the access road as it is a bit narrow and battered by the elements, otherwise the five days I stayed here will go down as one of the best trips I have ever had.
